The promo video prior to the Mankind-Rock is probably the greatest I have seen. Props to whoever produced it. Conversely, the montage with Foley's children in Beyond the Mat is truly heart-breaking. My heart really went out to Noelle.

Not trying to knock Dr. Death but i feel like it worked out for the better, i don't think Dr. Death vs Steve Austin would've been as big or as good as Austin vs McMahon, the Austin vs McMahon feud was one of the biggest factors in WWF beating WCW, it basically defined the attitude era

No one is gonna miss Michael Cole as a commentator. He and tazz were a good pairing, but it stops there. Cole as the lead was absolutely brutal
@TheTruth-pl3mk
@TheTruth-pl3mk 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Once JR was permanently replaced on commentary, I knew my time as a WWE viewer was almost over. I could write an essay on how much I hate Cole's work. But quite simply, he can ruin any match (even a classic) with his voice. One example for me was the WM26 match between Michaels and Taker. The year before, they had a better match (featuring JR on play-by-play). How much JR contributed to it is debatable, as he was long past his best days by then. But at WM26, I found myself distracted by how bad Cole's commentary was. It took away from what was a minor classic. I could apply that to any amount of matches he's called over the years...

someday even Michael Cole will be the announcer old guys all remember from their childhood. Bob Caudle is the one I grew up with as a kid. and I doubt many think he's the best. but he's the one who will always stick wit me cause he was the one I heard when I was growing up. wrestling is half nostalgia.

@@josephscott6388 Yeah, I guess so. I feel sorry for those kids then! I was lucky enough during my time of watching pro wrestling to hear Solie, Schiavone, JR, and even Joey Styles! All of those guys smashed the hell out of Cole (on his best day). The likes of Vince and Gorilla were terrible play-by-play guys and regularly upstaged by the color guys (Jesse the Body and Bobby the Brain, respectively) but even they were more fun than Cole. Another great episode as always. The poll that Conrad is talking about who do we want Bruce to talk about in length our choices: Yokozuna, Sycho Sid, Randy Orton, Diesel. This Royal Rumble discussion I think was needed cause it was interesting to pick Bruce's brain in the 1999 Royal Rumble pay per view. I agree with Bruce, I hated the Royal Rumble match. It did feel like as a viewer watching this back recently to get ready for this week's episode that the writers hands were tied. I think secretly Vince just wanted to win this match to fulfill a fantasy of not being a wrestler. It was cool seeing Chyna in the rumble match. Who would have known that this match would have started a career for Chyna that wouldnt be forgotten in the wrestling world. I thought The Last Man Standing match was way too much. At this point Mankind had done 3 Hell in the cell matches (tag team with Kane vs Steve Austin and Undertaker, vs Undertaker, and vs Kane) and this match all in a span of 6 months. I was very surprised that an audible wasnt called. I put the blame on the ref. I thought after the hell in the cell vs Undertaker, Vince didnt want no more of what Mankind did. Yet, look at the crazy shit he did. When Mick went through the electricity thing, I thought Shane was going to call an audible but Rocky was determined to hear that son of a bitch say I quit? I wonder what was going on during that conservation.

@1:41:23 Faux outrage for smarks and later IWC types to act self righteous about. I know Mick likes to act like this bothered him and that he and Rock weren't cool with each other for a few weeks after "Beyond the Mat" but that would require you to forget the rest of his career in WWF. I'm not talking about the Rock obviously they patch it up by the time they become a tag team. The NY Street fight and the HITC where he is retired are two of the most brutal matches I have ever seen. Royal Rumble 99 is a lot of chair shots true...the Street fight and HITC with HHH are everything else. Even with a gimmicked ring that had to have hurt. Let's not forget Big Show hole in one throwing Mick into the grave either. On the other side that IS why Mankind is famous. He is a deathmatch guy, he is the continuation of the Amarillo/Terry Funk style, and he wasn't a ring technician. He's a scary lunatic with 3 personalities who is basically unkillable and if the match was ever a last man standing he'd likely win against anyone. Mr. Socko and his "Have a Nice Day" stuff are all to smooth over watching a guy who basically has a real fight with most of his bigger feuds. Bret can talk about how great his worked punches are Mick literally rolled on tacks. Honestly had Benoit's murder/suicide of his family not occurred this would mostly be forgotten. However since people like believing that someone like Benoit can take so many chair shots (or more likely his use of the flying headbutt) that can screw you up so much you kill your family YET are considered completely liable for it? Which then begs the question if that's the case then what does the brain injury matter if we are holding to what he did was so evil even if he wasn't really there it doesn't matter? We don't hold pilots as evil people if they have a stroke or heart attack and crash into a crowd of people. Make up your minds either Benoit lost his mind and came to after and killed himself or Benoit was liable the entire time. It can't be both. The brain injury was irrelevant or it was the cause But quit using it as an excuse to shit all over everyone who was hardcore's career ESPECIALLY when the modern 5 star match guys end their careers even faster.

Yeah I remember watching that as it happened. And another thing to keep in mind, this wasn't all that long after Foley n Taker had their cell match. That was a superhuman effort and I think Foley then was looking to take the violence to his body to another level after that. This was his next chance and he succeeded. Absolutely scary to watch

My first ever wwf ppv. Me and my dad ordered it and then we ordered the next month. I was hooked for a long time on WWF until after Ruthless Aggression Era. The brand splits started to loose my interest in 2005 and 2004. That and Girls in college grew my attention. Now I am a wrestling fan again thanks to all the independent companies and MLW and Reality of Wrestling.

Even though Vince winning seemed stupid, it actually made sense, because in time he got his comeuppance. That’s why Shane and Stephanie are both insufferable, because they only want to put themselves over.

@32:21 Can't let this slide, for most of us who were teens or adults back then Ministry Taker IS the best Taker. I find it telling how nuts VKM and his cronies are that they think a undead demon, who rolls his eyes into the back of his head to turn on the lights, hangs out with a mortician, gains power from an urn, and disfigured his own brother in a fire (which killed their parents) named after the first murderer IS A GOOD GUY?!? Ministry Taker is the logical conclusion of the character...he's a demon, he's evil, he should be doing satanic shit 24/7. He is NOT a face ever! Even when he is a face, it makes no sense how he is a face. Don't give me that whole "it's silly he is sacrificing people and speaking in tongues" bullshit. He has been a undead "monster" since he debuted. He's not Frankenstein like he's merely a dead man who was brought back to life by science it it heavily implied there is some spiritual connection. Russo actually made the character make sense! I think in retrospect the whole Ministry including Taker should have had the Hell entrance like the Brood. As for the American Badass days...WHAT A DOWNGRADE. You go from Mephistopheles to a mere biker? Then he changes his shirt and wears leather pants a man of his size and frame should never wear and younger millennials act like that was a different version of him. Ministry was definitely one of the better theme songs as well versus his 10 minute entrance song or Kid Rock/Limp Bizkit/ or the edgy Applebee's commercial sounding "Dead man walking". I have literally went to the store during his streak entrances and got back before he was in the ring, it's that long of an entrance. Crow Sting is how you do the good undead guy

You guys have s great show, but please step into reality for a moment on this one issue: Michael Cole is and always has been a terrible announcer and personality. His translucent lack of presence, appearence and shrill voice alone have done nothing but an on screen representation of what has alienated the fans that were so loyal to the wwF for so many years. Cetain things should remain staples. The display of the product requires someone who knows the names of the holds. A retired wrestler with a good mind (Gorilla Monsoon) and strong voice. JR did his homework, had a personality. Anyone can work a lot and make it look hard. In this case Cole has done it for years and made a shit load of money aiding in the degredation of the product. He is to be respected for many things , i'm sure. Way to go. Michael Cole does not belong on any "GREATEST ANNOUNCERS" list. You gentlemen have an awesome show going here, and i respect you both. Just sucks that so many of us fans have to sit in a gymnasium in Schenctady Ny; watching Tom Brandi hustle stolen WWE merchandise under a Patriot mask, just to experience the faint reminder of why so many of us used to love 'this great sport'.
