8 is not one of the best but yes it had the great match with Bret & Roddy, I remember watching that live & loving it! I think they were going to try & turn Hogan heel but quickly changed their minds after Royal Rumble. The Flair VS Savage match was good but I hated his outfit lol. (Savage) I was excited for Hogan VS Sid & got all jumpy when Warrior came out. So it shouldn’t be compared to IX because it was without a doubt leaps & bounds better than IX. IX pissed me off again with what happened with Hogan! I was happy to see him “avenge Bret” but was mad Bret didn’t win. I was thinking this too. As world champion Bret never got a PPV win over Hogan, Flair, or Savage, even though all of them were in the company. His record also included losing to Yoko who got beat in 30 seconds by Hogan, getting pinned clean by Owen Hart at Wrestlemania X. Just another part of their f-ing terrible booking from that period.
@drvn83 жыл бұрын
I still think this worked out better for Bret. Yoko was on the rise and we needed a dominant heel to be champ for a while. At the time, no heel had ever left WM as champion, so having Hogan go over to end the show on some nonsense was fine since Hogan jobbed out to Yoko at KOTR, further building Yoko's clout by ending Hulkamania. Bret, on the other hand, had to rebuild and earn his title shot over the next year. His KOTR performance was top notch and he had the three best matches on the card (maybe of the year). He wrestled two matches at SummerSlam against two different styles, and started his Owen feud at Survivor Series, wrestled a tag match at RR and won the RR, jobbed to Owen in the best opening match at WM en route to getting his rematch at WM X against the unstoppable Yokozuna (who had taken out Hogan, an undefeated Tatanka, Undertaker, Lex Luger, and anyone else in his way). Bret going through all of this put him over way more than Hogan passing him the torch could have, and besides, Hogan didn't owe Bret anything. If you need Hogan to put you over, you're just admitting that Hogan is a bigger star.

Never before had the championship changed hands two times in one night, and it certainly never happened at WrestleMania.
@tonyellis65146 жыл бұрын
This is purely speculative on my part, but it's entirely possible that they are both right. Hogan DID work on the European tour in the summer of 1993, after he had dropped the belt to Yoko. When did those tickets go on sale? Probably before Hogan had lost the title. So, if the idea was to help sell tickets by making Hogan WWF Champion, even though he would end up dropping the belt before the tour actually took place, that is entirely plausible.

I thought Wrestlemania 9 was nowhere near the worst, and quiet liked it. The idea that it's the worst, is generally the opinion of the Meltzer marks and Indy marks. The ending as a one off, at that time was great, because you thought Hogan, who was still most people's favourite wrestler was leaving/having very little to do with the WWE, so it was an awesome moment to see him win the title back. The outdoor Arena in Las Vegas I thought was also cool. The only negative I'd have about the event was, a few too many matches ended in DQs. The last few Wrestlemania's have easily been worse than Wrestlemania 9. They've been painfully long to watch at 5+ hours, and most wrestlers we don't really care about, and the main events with Roman Reigns (whom I don't mind) as a face been boo'd by the crowd, versing another heel, has meant the mainevent's of the last few years have been completely flat and downers.

Is it entirely possible that they put the title on Hogan for the European tour and then Hogan pulled something to get out of going? Hogans a pretty busy guy and he also seems like the type that won't do something if it doesn't benefit him in some way. Overall, it seems a little silly to argue with someone who was actually there because some random internet site says something differently. WWE was a private company back in '93, things like house shows weren't shared, so unless someone who worked for WWE in '93 is writing that site it's pretty fair to assume that there is probably a fair amount of information that's either skewed or missing.
@str.776 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Because there's also Bret's account, that Summer Slam 93 was to be him against Hogan in a passing of the torch moment. They did promo shooting for that, allegedly a poster existed and WWF magazine reported on such a match (in a "who would win" scenario). If Bret got that right (or even the "back to Yoko on KotR" wasn't the plan from the beginning), it would have made sense to put the belt on Hogan for the July tour. He would have been champion. then things were changed before KotR, putting Bret against Lawler and Hogan moving out.

I went to a show in England in 1993. Main event was Yokozuna v Hulk Hogan. However the champion was Yokozuna. So the tour he's talking about must have been after King of The Ring.

conrad comes off like he was trying to catch bruce in something. its obv that was the idea and vince changed his mind so he lost the title earlier than he was expected. oh whats the big conspiracy?? so bruce remembers the meetings about Hogan and the European tours and then vince changed his mind. so its bruce fault? what is he trying to catch bruce in?
@ChaosTheory95 жыл бұрын
Yeah and remember, Bruce has to remember this shit from 26 years ago! If Bruce knew back in 1993 that one day he would be on something called a “podcast” being interviewed about all of this, I’m sure he would make sure to remember every detail lol

Jose Reyes The big conspiracy is that it looks like they made up any old excuse just to put the title on hogan as fast as possible. That wouldnt have sat well with other wrestlers.

A lot of people, myself included, just want the truth. "Hulk thought Bret was too small BROTHER and BROTHER he wouldn't give Bret Hart a chance, BROTHER." That's the truth. I'm sure Vince had his head up his ass too, but ultimately everyone knows Hulk had a hand in fucking Bret (and Yoko, really). We just want the truth, but Bret Hart must have shit in Bruce's toilet, and Shawn Michaels must have unclogged it, because the fat fuck seems to hate Bret for whatever reason and just won't tell the truth.

Yes. His match against Bob Backlund at Wrestlemania 11. Even Bret admitted it was one of his worst ever matches.
@Andy_drummer6 жыл бұрын
That submission match was a terrible idea....not Bret's fault (I'm sure you already knew that, but just thought I'd throw that out there). Also, Bret's "match" with McMahon at WM 26 was embarrassing and never should have happened...but I don't think that match should count towards his career. Other than those, Bret was involved in some of the most historic matches and is my favorite of all time.
@Dizzy19806 жыл бұрын
Agree completely... Bret's two worst matches were WrestleMania 11 (with Roddy Piper's constant "Whaddy say?") and WrestleMania 26 (the match of 10,000 chair shots).
@str.776 жыл бұрын
It was Bret's worst full WM match (not counting vs. Bolsheviks and vs. Vince) but even though it wasn't a bad match. Just way below his usual standard. I'd rather rewatching this submission match than the final matches of WM 33 or 34.

I was at the April show in Sheffield and Hogan was not there. It was a televised event and Yokozuna didn't wrestle a scheduled match, but did an in ring interview with Mr Fuji and Bobby Heenan about losing the belt a week earlier. He ended up wrestling a dark match after the TV broadcast had ended against Jim Duggan, who had also main evented against Lex Luger.
@Adzleb4 жыл бұрын
It's hard to believe that there was no intention or support for the Hogan VS Hart match when the official WWF Magazine ran a big (kayfabe) feature after 'Mania hyping that very match. There were even interviews. I remember a dramatic silhoutte shot of a posing Hogan and the quote "but what about the Hulkster's heart?" to which Bret responded with something along the line of "what's my name?". Read it as a kid, was totally excited for it, never happened. But we got Thunder in Paradise, so....

When Bruce says that either Wrestlemania 8 or 9 is the worst Wrestlemania, I wonder if he is basing that off the main event only. I can see 8 (with the Hogan-Sid DQ finish) and 9 (with the short Bret-Yoko and shorter Hogan-Yoko) being the worst main events... but Wrestlemania 8 had two really strong matches in Piper-Hart and Flair-Savage, as well as Undertaker-Roberts, which was Taker's first huge win as a babyface. Hulk was advertised for the European Tour to face Yoko, but then pulled out and Duggan wrestled Yoko instead.

@dannythedon826 жыл бұрын
It made no sense that Bret wouldn't be part of either a match with Hogan or Yoko either at King of the ring or Summerslam. Wrestlemania set everything up. Bret loses by a miscarriage of justice and Hogan disputes the decision and gets a match with Yoko and wins the title. Bret didn't ever get any kind of rematch at all with Yoko or a match with Hogan so you know there was some dirty politics that went on. In fact Bret had to wait a whole entire year just to get the title back. They could of even had a triangle or triple threat match with Hogan vs Bret vs Yoko which would probably make the most sense because they were all part of a big mess.
@Radeo6 жыл бұрын
Triple Threats were not a thing in WWF until 1997.

Radeo Yeah I know. They were going on in WCW for years though as the Triangle match. They could of done the same thing and that would of been a good match between all 3 of them. They fucked up that whole situation.

I honestly think Vince wasn't 100% convinced that Bret was ready or the right guy to carry the company. I mean what was the point of simultaneously building up Luger with this similar "real American, patriotic" gimmick after it was clear that Hogan would leave?! In hindsight, it looks like Vince himself didn't fully know what he wanted. They promoted the ish outta Luger and his Lex Express tour only to have him never win the title LOL I wouldn't be surprised if we ever find out that in 1993 he was thinking of bringing the Warrior back at some point LMAO
