Sometimes: A SaRy Documentary

I feel like I need to explain further why this video took so long. I've known roughly all of this information since 2020. The reason I didn't just put out a video then is because I realized the importance of this, not only to the community but to myself personally. The things that I discovered about this person that I have never met in my life is crazy. I knew that I needed to give saRy and his story justice. I needed it to be as good as I could make it, and the pieces only just now fell into place for this video to happen. I apologize for the super long hiatus, but I hope this video at least partially makes up for it. I don't know how long it's gonna take for me to start streaming. In all honesty, I'm nervous to start, because I don't want to fumble on myself and it's the worst thing ever in front of 100 people. I also don't have the most amount of time in the world? I don't know. Huge thanks to everyone who has supported me. I really want to thank the people in my small friend group who supported me through thick and thin. I don't think I would have been able to close this out if I didn't have the support of them. I hope you all enjoyed. 💙

A few things to note: - Ship physics got a massive overhaul in Update 2.0. Its changes made straight flying easier, while making precise, quick diagonal flying MUCH harder. That needs to be taken into account when discussing ship physics in old mobile screenshots. - Similarly, saRy's Hell Zone completion was (possibly) before the level was nerfed significantly. For example, the level notably had a precise orb timing which was changed into a pad at the VERY start of the level. - Silent Club had a secret way in it. It's not impossible to consider that scary took it to beat the level, keeping its existence hidden until Cyclic discovered it and got the level unrated. Otherwise, great video all around. You still put out high quality content years after your last upload.

He was someone that I always kept at the back of my mind throughout the years and was one of my inspirations to start star grinding back then, along with Cyclic. 6:17 Red World seems to have never actually been rated before it was fixed. Sea’s unlisted video on it from September 2016 says the same, and I’m not aware of any evidence that suggests it was rated. This would make it one of, if not the only unrated level to have been fixed by an elder mod, and would likely explain why it wasn’t fixed sooner. This is an easy misconception to make as SaRy had numerous other rated levels, but they may be lost to time.

Then over the next few months, he took a break, beating easier extremes". Like they just list completion dates. This was a good discussion about all aspects of the topic.

Hey so I need to add something. I don't know where I have heard this, if it was a lie told to me by someone or if I even made that up. Let me explain. A few weeks ago I was talking with a friend of mine, Refios if my memory serves correct, and we talked about saRy (no capitalized S ^^') Either way I remembered this weird story I've heard sometime in early 2015. Apparently there was a meeting hosted within the GW/a meeting some Korean players that could be affiliated to the GW. Did saRy partake in it? I don't know, did this ever happen, heck I don't even know. All I remember is that there was a meeting which I think I was told he did in fact partake in. I am 99% sure this is bogus, I've always held an interest, even close to a decade ago in history and especially mysterious/foggy/undocumented history. fair to say in early 2015 I wanted to know what happened in 2013/14. There is a good chance I made that up myself just to argue with someone, that's the most likely scenario. Though this is so old that I cannot be sure. It may as well have been told to me. I was once in contact with KeIas, Lightning back in the days, to join the GW which as a 13 yo Frenchman was pretty complex. Either way this is one of the info sitting in the back of my memory that I cannot prove nor disprove. If anyone has heard of that it would be nice for you to come forward, I'm as intrigued as you all. Also and while I'm at it, I've heard/read somewhere about a drama involving Kudabe and the Korean community as a whole. On this one I am way more certain it's nothing I could have invented for the sake of an argument. Though again no prove, I tried asking SuperSNSD but he has never heard of it so it has probably happened while he was doing his military service, that should have then happened in or close to 1.6. As far as I know it was pretty heated, made Kudabe not so appreciated within the community and devided quite a bit said community. I was never able to find anything about that, not that I searched much either, but I insist that this one I would have had no reason to make it up. The saRy one I have my reason to think I made that up to win an argument over his legitimacy when I was still very young. The other one, well, I did not have a clue Kudabe was somewhat relevant in the Korean sphere and would have no interest inventing a drama that I barely ever told anyone anyway. Either way, very nice video, I was there when saRy grinded his final stars and uploaded Red World, would have loved to have started earlier but it is what it is. Thanks for bringing back some dusty memories Lation! EDITS/Video Corrections: -Demonov is a level by lenov, it is also the level that black P2SFull (silent club creator) that become his new nickname: Play 1107696 from the top of my head. It was largely loved by the Korea community and pushed to rated. -Tbf it's most likely he left because of military -You are absolutely right there is no proof he cheated, it's possible he hacked some due to pressure. My theory would be that he felt compelled to prove he was the best and resorted to hacking. It's unlikely in my opinion that he hacked his stars/most demons. Though while I have no proof the accusation has pretty much none either. -I haven't mentionned that but I really like your conclusion -I also do not recall red World being ever rated, in fact I actually remember being surprised when I was playing that it was not getting rated, though I cannot prove for certain what I'm saying is true. But I'm quite confident.

@@Lation I've been around since 2.1's release and I remember VERY WELL that Red World was rated during that time. I remember it specifically being a Medium Demon, not sure why, and I remember playing it and figuring out that it was impossible. I then have a separate memory of checking again somewhere around a year later and finding it being unrated. I very specifically remembering noticing at that time that it was unrated now where it had previously been rated. There is always the chance that I could be mis-remembering, but I'm really confident in that memory.

I love the music taste influence from great creators like LEMMiNO and EmpLemon. Definitely learned a few things about saRy while watching this, and thanks for making an archive; I will be checking that out. Two very small mistakes I noticed were: Firstly, at 4:00, which shows the wrong year in the date. And Secondly, not an issue with the video itself but rather the subtitles. There were a few parts were the subtitles did not exactly match what was being said, but that doesn't really matter. What I did find interesting is 13:40, which seems to include a sentence that was later removed from the script(?). In all seriousness, this is a nice documentary about saRy and I thank you for that. Double thanks for adding subtitles, that really shows class. I believe you'll make it big someday, in whatever you focus your efforts on! :3

I've been messing around with old ship physics lately, and i think it IS possible to go this straight with the ship. I have a 60hz monitor and I used a 1.9 GD client, so the physics should be around the same, and when I was jitterclicking with the ship gamemode on, I was momentairly able to go just as straight as SaRy in the screenshot.

Ive been in both GD since Christmas 2013 and GW since only a few days later, maybe New Year 2014. As someone who talked to players like LunarSIMG, Cyclic, and of course, saRy, over the great forum, this is perhaps the best documentary about GD ever. If you decide to do another one I recommend 3xot1c, hes quite the mysterious figure like saRy, but unlike the latter, 3xot1c truely is mysterious and not just forgotten about. I can provide you with the little information I know if you decide to make and 3xot1c documentary. Anyways, sorry for the long text wall, good luck on Unnerfed Red World.

I appreciate the praise! I previously made a video on 3xotiC. It was gonna be a video like this one, and I actually found out a shockingly high amount about him, but given how touchy the subject of his current whereabouts is, I decided to make it a fun what-if video about if he was legit!
