Some of the best pipe experiences I’ve had were cheap tobacco out of a cheap pipe. For all of our trying to force a transcendent experience of any kind, the experience will find you when it’s ready to present itself.

Maybe its just me, but I enjoyed how within 21 minutes the video went from late afternoon light to nearly dark. As I get older, I notice the simple beauty in things that I always took for granted in my youth. Perhaps youth truly is wasted on the young.

@@clips8813 Honestly, you're never too young for the elders. I'm in my 50's now but growing up I had tons of friends my age but I also spent a lot of time hanging out with my dad an his friends. Then in my early twenties I spent a lot of time with my company's owner and and his peers. Most of the things that I have learned over the years that were actually good solid life lessons and philosophies came from listening to people significantly older than me. Hang out with your elders as often as possible. You can form some very significant friendships even when there are years between you.

Thank you for disclosing the name of the manufacturer and blend of tobacco that you enjoy in each video. As a new pipe smoker it helps me to get recommendations from gentlemen such as Mutton Chop, you, and The Spurgeon Piper. The three of you provide good background to my pipe time, after prayers of course. God be with you.

You know what sir. It would be a pleasure running into your kind self and share a moment with a pipe. You’re a genuine good ole boy from the backwoods and and I’m a city slicker from California, trying to get away from the city. I bet our views and stories would differ from one another, but the pipe would bring us together. Figure people still like to learn from one another and come together like how the good times used to be. Happy smokes and stay spooky

It usually takes about 15-30 seconds for someone I just met ( I lived in Nebraska for the last 50 years when I entered Creighton Medical school). I sometimes joke that I am from the South…… South Bronx!!

@@tompagano9015 I think you left out a thought, it takes 15 to 30 seconds too? I think you ment to say something like: I know if I like this person?! Just my guess. Any ways, it's funny, I am a PT , so sorta like medical school. Maybe that is the connection.

@@BlakesPipes .I can’t find my original comment (?). Yes, I left out that it takes 15-30 seconds for someone from the Midwest to pick up my Bronx accent even after living in the Midwest since 1969. Saying words like “ coffee”, “car”, “ water”, get me every time. I try to trump or top them after they guess I am from New York by asking / challenging them to name “what borough?”

Thank you so much for this video Allen. Really needed it. I've felt so dispondent at church lately, because I've been to many different churches and they all believe in the name it and claim it rubbish and walk around church and society like they mini god's and know it all and are better than everyone else, but hearing you I realize that being Christan you don't have to take things seriously and that I should just ignore how people are behaving in church. Just follow Jesus and do what He said we must do and say and not listen to the concentrated dribble of people in the church, because it just gets you down. Like you say we don't have to have everything figured out, that's God's job. Going off the subject a bit, I know what you mean when you say that spending time by yourself reflecting while having a good pipe or cigar really helps you mental health. I used to smoke cigars before I got married 14 years ago and my wife isn't a big fan of them, because like many people on the church, she thinks it's sort of a sin. I know that to be untrue myself, but since I've stopped having cigars and being able to sit and reflect on life. I've become so miserable and unhappy. Always wound up like a rubber band and have no release. From Don

One fun little trick I learned from one of the greats, Mr. Samuel Clemmons (Mark Twain). If you're going to be out and about doing a lot of walking, a pipe sock can be a magical tool. You fill that sucker up with some tobacco before you leave. Drop your pipe in (bowl first) and close it up around the stem. Toss it in your pocket (a breast pocket works best) and as you are walking, the tobacco will make it's way into the bowl and pack itself. I find this works best when going on walks or yard work where lugging around a pipe roll becomes tedious. If you want to smoke the entire time, you can do a two pipe swap (one smokes while the other packs) or enjoy a cigar between the pack. Also becomes VERY handy when it's super windy out since you won't be fighting the wind to pack your pipe.

I've smoked it all - very expensive tobaccos, boutique style blends, tons of German blends and drug store stuff. Today for the first time I bought some Captain Black Royal. The CB Royal is an excellent tobacco that provides an all day mild smoke with a medium topping of vanilla and perhaps some other flavors which I didn't really notice - Its as good as many of the $20-25 blends I've bought and it cost me $11.00 - Plus its cut perfectly and stays lite with the perfect amount of moisture. There is a reason CB has been around a long time - Its good tobacco - BTW, Haunted Bookshop isn’t my favorite, but every now and then I’m looking for a Smokey, Dry somewhat spicy smoke and then it’s ok, but that’s not too often.

I regret getting the kabuto over the carona IM old boy. It’s very finicky on getting flame on the first strike. It’s great on butane though. I will give it that. It’s been months since I filled it and it’s still going. I just can’t get it to light by lighting it the way you strike yours. I have to hold in left hand and use right hand thumb and get a full strike of the wheel if I want flame. Happy piping! I’m enjoying a bowl of Captain Earles “ reflections” right now.

Alan, I appreciated your story on the fractious mare. I have been fortunate to have many good horses over the years but I have a beautiful big black TWH gelding that is 16.3 hands tall. Very mild and good horse around the farm and he moves well, but he gets "barn sour" and when I go on rides, he will get edgy and can be a handful. Not ready to sell him though as when I ride with other riders he delivers some might fine rides. Oh well.............

I agree on those house blends. I have been going through buying a lot of name-brand tobaccos and trying them and, while many of them are very delicious, there’s something about this one ‘Truman’s Blend’ from my local tobacconist here in MO that brings me such enjoyment even without the multifaceted flavor profiles of the high-dollar tins.

Haunted bookshop I have tried and tried and I hate it. I was sitting by a campfire working on my PC by the lake in LBL. Need solitude to develop a resolution at work it came to me I should dump that entire jar in the camp fire, clean the jar and fill with a blend that works for me. So what came to me was sometimes you just have to toss the idea and start a new plan. I know people say how could you burn that jar full, and how could I scrap the 2 weeks of work? Well because that’s just what I needed to do.
