Personally I would have put the sink under the countertop as I prefer the plywood decorative edge. If you do that in future use a good polyurethane oil (or) just use a good boat oil for wood exposed to salt water type work... Like Sikkens oil. It is the best I have ever used. Has great UV protection.

As a cabinet maker for 13 years, and having used acoustic panneling as we call it in Australia, using it around a washing machine alcove is an absolute genius idea I've never though of, seen, or heard of before, yet makes total sense! I'll be using this in the future! Cheers!!

Scott I am a finish contractor in the states a small business guy like you. I finally bought a “Blum” cabinet jig which drills my 35mm cups for the door hinges. It’s fully adjustable and allows you to set your margins (I believe @ 2, 4, or 8 mm plus accepts and drills for Blums “Inserta” hinges ! Which allows you to drill your 35mm cup and two 8mm holes for “inserta” cups! Rockler makes a cup hinge jig also with reference margins however “buy once cry once” and get the Blum jig! It’s $300 bones baby!! I make a lot of pieces with cabinets so get one !!

From a fellow carpenter on the other side of the planet, I really enjoy your working ethic Scott, very similar to mine even though materials and styles differ. Those metal sink clips are hardly ever used over here, they come with every metal sink, but when fitting into standard base units (the norm in the UK) there is never enough room to get at them from underneath, so the common practice is to just use a silicone sealant! Have recently purchased the XGT 40v Miter saw to add to my Makita collection (mainly on your recommendation) what a great saw, and it even fits inside my DIY van drawers as a bonus! Stay safe and keep up the good work, loving the channel and can't wait to see your next project!

Hi Scott! Just a little tip for you: next time when you have to fix these type of hinges on to a door, put the hinges into the holes first, then you can run a straight edge ( a piece of plywood or a level) between the two( or more) to keep them aligned with each other while you fix the screws , they will automatically be perpendicular with the edge of the door( or parallel, it depends how you look at it) . Seeing you using that speed square makes me think you might scratch the surface, it takes more time and it's less accurate. Anyway, great job! Cheers mate!

I think the Kreg Jig has it’s own hole’s for the screws of the hinges. If you use them the hinges should be aligned perfect, just like IKEA.

Hi Scott, thanks you for the video. As a plumber, this is the very reason I have a plunge track saw (a cheap one, but still nonetheless). It makes installing sinks much much easier. Also, I would have put silicon caulk on that plywood cut that you put the sink in. With the passing time, silicon joints nearly always end up failing and the water sips in the wood, and it blows up. Putting silicon caulk on it slows down the process.

Another solid video Scott. A tip on further reducing washing machine noise is to try and put the feet of the appliance on something squishy (Some sort of foam is good), this will isolate the vibration of the machine as it spins. The vibrations from the appliances can cause a huge racket when it starts to resonate panels in cabinetry, walls floors etc. Another tip is to make sure the appliances aren't touching the back wall or each other if possible. I work for F&P and this is my number one tip when people complain about noisy appliances. Cheers

Some cautious advise. Don't leave sharp angles on laminate. They will crack from pressure. Atleast 1/4 round over. For sink, lather silicone on the cutout as well. Exposed substrate not very good, also for warranty purposes from certain countertop manufactures. Lastly, if your doing wall to cabinet countertops move panel/cabinet 1/4 inch away. Then just cut counter 1/8 smaller to get scribe done. Less fuss installing as well. It would of saved you the time from redoing the same thing twice. Nice shop, hope to have one someday. Forgot one more, clamp hinge jig with a long clamp on the opposite edge. That looked really scary.

Make sure to add a stand pipe or something similar to raise the outlet height for your washing machine drain. If you don't, you'll have syphoning issues. At best it'll cause poor performance, at worst it can cause the washer to fault. Ideally the end of the drain house should be about 3/4 up the height of the washing machine. The manual will give you exact measurements

Sorry to be the beara of,, well maybe bad news,, ever rim mounted sink I've installed in the last two hundred years has always been bedded in, one of the following: plumbers putty, "mastic tape", or cocking, caulking, or corking,, it always depended on the"counter top" (you guys mistakenly call it a bench I believe) material. In time or with enough water at any one point in time a sink installed without bedding will leak,, I did see you silicon around the perimeter of the top but not under the sink flange,, did I miss it??? Silicon is the preferred material in any case.

Scott, not sure if 1 sided laminate sheets are available in South Island, NZ but they are here in Midwest USA in Chicago. The would save you a lot of needless time with biscuits ( old school). BTW, look into kreg's cabinet jig for the strongest bottom to side panel construction possible. It angles the screws they have into the pilot holes that are just big enough to screw in your favorite square head screw... Or at least mine. Hope you used hot dipped or powder coated screws on these garage cabinets....just saying...wink wink. TC, Dominique

@@ScottBrownCarpentry Scott, for strength under the washer dryer shelf you also could have used 2 thicknesses of plywood ( without laminate on 1 face) & screwed them together with glue between them ( laminate facing out) & insert them into the side panels as you did but instead of the 2x4 wood. The laminated plywood screwed & glued together vertically is very strong when doubled up. That's why they use it for micro- beams. I was shocked when I saw you use the extr grade 2x4s. It seemed a bit overkill.

At the 9:15 mark, I noticed you used a square to square up your hinges for pilot holes. That Kreg jig has 2 holes (one on either side of the large boring hole) to use as a guide for pilot holes for hinges. Since the jig is already clamped in square, the pilot holes will be square. So, you won't need to use a square to square up hinges again... Man that's a lot of "squares" in 2 sentences.
