- Somethin' Stupid by C. Carson Parks 1966 (and Frank and Nancy Sinatra 1967)
- Isn't She Lovely (in Bb not E) by Stevie Wonder 1976
- Somebody To Love by Queen 1976
- Lean On Me by Bill Withers 1972
- Don't Think Twice, It's All Right by Bob Dylan 1962

JC makes musical space bigger. Who knew that space would be in our own heads? There all along, waiting for a light to shine in its unexplored corners.

I am a true Jacobite and also one of those who is utterly convinced that JC has been sent to us by a higher power. BUT - and I *really* hate to say it - I feel he lost his way a bit with this one. It's always easy for people to criticise him for overdoing things, but in this case, I feel as though he's having to force the inventiveness that would normally emerge innately and organically. I mean, he's on a punishingly long worldwide tour so I'm sure he's tired, so, coupled with his natural need to give the audience what they expect he's trying too hard. :-(

I always think when these sort of thoughts creep in it’s always useful to think have I ever heard this before or could I ever replicate this? Jacob has his audience used to an incredibly high standard and obviously not every performance is going to be his absolute best, but frankly I think that anything that man does on a piano is beyond anything I’ve ever heard before which is good enough for me.

Lacks substance and consistency. Certainty and attitude Piano work is outstanding...but this song's just not for him,his voice is strained and the variations are uncalled for and snobbish...just my point,ur more than welcome to like it.

I agree, the melody of this song is just so lovely, and was written that way for a reason.I feel he's just going nuts all over it for some kind of shock effect. Really just makes me want to go back and listen to that Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea album, which tread this path well before Collier

Mind you, most of these performances (songs of other artists that he chooses to cover at concerts) are mostly improvised. As a huge Jacob Collier fan, he definitely could have made some parts sound better and more confident had he rehearsed it before. But at no point would it ever be a karaoke performance by any means. That's just simply not how he covers songs.
@louiehamel7675
@louiehamel7675 Жыл бұрын
If you guys think this performance is snobby, you guys ether don't know Jacob Collier, or you are not musicians. Like @PatrickVerst said, these piano ballads are all improv. He probably doesn't have a thought about the audience, and is just having fun. If you don't like it, fine. Everyone has an opinion. But he is so down to earth and a genuine guy. Very much not a snob.
@PatrickVerst
@PatrickVerst Жыл бұрын
@@louiehamel7675 The only thing he might be a little bit snobby about is who he lets touch his stuffed alligator, Jethro 😂 But seriously though, this man has no ego or snobbery to go around.
