Sana pwedeng every foreign student, must sponsor (or at least a portion of the fee they pay goes to) 1 indigenous school-aged child - in the capital, the in the provinces, esp those in the remote areas of the country. It's a win-win! We teach foreigners and we uplift the future of our very own kapwa Pinoys.

I so agree with this lady. I think If you want to use the English language, then you speak it. I think mixing it with Tagalog is a weird way to go, especially if you are with the other students from other countries who want to learn English very well. Some of our fellow country men will criticize you for being arrogant if you try to speak English in front of others, but you see English language is now globally. I think by speaking it, will help the younger ones to get use to it and they will learn faster when they're in school.

It's appalling to hear the UP Dean and students say "we know what we have, we know where we are". Pride comes before a fall. First off, be humble and second of all they can't even make top 10 worldwide as far as teaching English is concerned, let alone they only made it in the Top 501- 600 bracket out of 1,000 universities in the The World University Rankings 2019 (general ranking) but the ego is just over the roof. Not all Valedictorians study in UP, some study abroad while some prefer to study in smaller universities because of the frat wars in UP and poor facilities (to name a few reasons). I myself did not even take the UPCAT exam by choice.

Maraming foreigners na nag-aaral sa Pilipinas kasi napakamura ng matrikula compare sa mga schools sa bansa nila. And as an open country maraming pumipili na dito mag-aral. I suggest na dapat mas mataas ang tuition fees for foreign students and should not be the same for local students just like in many other country. Para naman kahit papano may nakukuhang benefits ang ating bansa kapalit ng libo libong mga dayuhan na naninirahan dito. And to be globally competitive I think education system should focus more on enhancing Filipino students skills not just study theories and books and become mentally skilled because work and output matters the most. Whats the sense of being smart if you dont know how to apply it in real life situation? btw just my opinion
@burgermariechan
@burgermariechan 5 жыл бұрын

I am just wondering why the taglish is now very common in the Philippines. During my student years in the 70s and 80s, we were taught only English without any tagalog words in our subjects, except of course in our Pilipino subject. Is that what the teachers are supposed to teach their students nowadays?

The lady in yellow dress doesn't seem to understand that through time, space and distance , it is a given fact that language evolves. Language changes as per culture and time. Nothing is static or carved in a stone and this also applies to other languages in the world today. Ideally it would sound good when English is spoken , as it should be spoken in its pure sense of the English language alone as we knew it, and not being mixed with any Filipino "bits and pieces" . But the truth is , the English language we have known today has had taken in many foreign words i.e., French , Spanish , Latin words as examples , through thousands of years in the making. In fact the English language are mixtures of the ancient Germanic languages of the Saxons, Angles from Western Germany who invaded Britain plus that of the Celts and others if we look at history.Looking into our own Philippine history, many Spanish words are being adopted into the Cebuano language, sometimes many Filipinos forget about it. Today, we think Cebuano is pure language, but it's not.Assuming these 2 women being interviewed specialized in language studies / perhaps teachers of English themselves , yet having less understanding of the evolution of languages . It would be much helpful having an educated grasp of the cultural linguistic phenomena that will explain in fair manner and understanding why Filipinos are mixing up English and Tagalog word forming the TAGLISH, CEBLISH versions . It's just the way it is , let's take it simply as that. It is how the Filipino culture and people operate and respond . This is not an isolated case , or something which warrants criticisms against . Perhaps in a hundred years or two, the English language would sound very different than how we use it today . Perhaps by that time 200 - 300 years from now , TAGLISH AND CEBLISH are declared new official languages of the Philippines :)
