kirtan is something whcih has to be suitable for all people to sing along around the world,eg anuradha potwaals kirtan kabhi ram banke kanhi shaam banke.sonam balis this kirtan is not for chanting ..so this is not an kirtan obviously.....these days plenty rock kirtans comming but the fact is kirtan should be bit in classical form....kirtan should be made in such way in which every1 can chant .

This particular kirtan of Sonam's happens to be a classic chun, so no need to complain I already know what kind of person must be hiding behind your name so I'm not gonna waste my time arguing with you. kirtanking pinku You make a good point, but you're a little bit inaccurate. To say 'kirtan' is something "everyone can chant" is true, but somewhat off-based. Kirtan is, more often than not, the chanting of the names/qualities of God. "Govinda jai jai Gopala jai jai", "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna", "Namah Shivay Om Namah Shivay Har Har Bhole Namah Shivay" are all examples of kirtan as they merely extol the names of God. 'Dhun' as understood throughout most of India (and the diaspora) is a call-response to a consistent tune. It's just as easy to follow as a kirtan. The only difference is dhuns use phrases/sentences from particular languages like Hindi, Gujarati etc while kirtans usually keep to the names of God. For example, the famous Ram Dhun by Jagjit Singh "Hey Ram, Hey Ram...jag me sacho tero naam..Hey Ram, Hey Ram". If you know Hindi, following "jag me sacho tero naam" is easy. This is dhun. However, to the same melody, if one were to sing "Hey Ram, Hey Ram...Raghunandan Ghanshyaam...Hey Ram, Hey Ram", it would (more technically) be considered kirtan as 'Raghunandan' and 'Ghanshyaam' are well-known titles/names of Sri Hari Vishnu/His avataras. Ultimately, there are kirtan-like dhuns and dhun-like kirtans, but this is what usually marks the difference between the two. Sonam Bali did well in this dhun because, in addition to singing different names of Mata Rani, she extols her mahima in the additional lyrics. :) Jai Mata Di

Durga and mahishasur are cousins please don't worship Durga as a goddess mahishasur is my son what happened here when Durga killed mahishasur was a mistake both of them are still upset about this till this day.
