Aah the good old Sonata Arctica. I remember how I used to listen theese songs as I was growing up, during my teenage years. This band really defined the musical preferences. They were the best then and I will always have a place in my hearth reserved for them. Have a nice day, everyone. Spread the word, make this band even bigger. :)

Love this song, especially now that I can definitely hear the musical devices and harmonic choices they gradually implemented fully on Unia. Takes me back to high school...

I don't think people understand the true magnitude of this song. A graven image is an idol or shrine made for worship. This song is recording the life of someone who worshiped music, as if it was a god. At least, this is my own interpretation. If that was the true meaning that they meant for this song, I don't think it could have been more perfect. I still come to tears sometimes when I hear this song, because I myself have a deep love for music.
@pinietsas8 жыл бұрын
So first you say that people don't understand the magnitude of the song and right after that you state out that there are possible interpreteations to the song and that you don't know which one is the right one? It seems to me that the most confused one here is you. Regarding the song, masterpiece, one of Sonata's finest, lyrically and melodically.
@AuralAzure8 жыл бұрын
What I meant to say is that this song has a grand emotional ceiling; the song is powerfully profound, and what I mean about the "true magnitude" is that this song inspires such a level of reaction as to contain more power than most. It was a bit of a faux pas on my part to refer to this as my interpretation; what I meant was that I believe this song in every way, shape, or form, is absolutely perfect, because of its profundity. It was probably pretty late when I made that comment. Also, there are technically no wrong interpretations to a song. There can be multiple, but that doesn't mean any are wrong. Thing about music, and all writing in general, is that it doesn't take full meaning from the writer, not completely. The writer surely has their own interpretation, but that doesn't mean the song is only applicable to said interpretation. Music is meant to be beautifully ambiguous.

On a stormy night, when the world was blanketed in darkness and rain pounded against the pavement, they met. Two souls seeking solace in the symphony of life, yearning for a connection that transcended mere existence. It was in that fateful encounter that they found each other, their hearts beating in unison to the rhythm of love. Music, an ethereal force that brought people together, played a significant role in their relationship. Their melodies intertwined, creating a harmony that echoed through the depths of their souls. Through melody, they discovered a bond that surpassed the ordinary, finding a refuge in each other's arms. As the sun rose on a cold winter morning, they stoked a fire to cast away the chill, a metaphor for the effort they put into kindling their love and keeping it alive. But as time marched on, doubts started to cloud their vision. They wondered if they could still recognize and appreciate the beauty and love that once enveloped their lives. It felt as though they were playing a note, yet hearing no sound, as if they had lost both their love and their passion. They looked back on their youth, when they were driven by the temptation to please others and be heard. Shadows had been their constant companions, loneliness their bedfellow. The price they paid for their passion had been higher than they initially realized. They had willingly subscribed to a solitary existence, ready to make sacrifices at the altar of their art. Were they truly in love, or had their heart become hardened over time? They pondered this question, recognizing that once the light goes out, everything comes to an end. Their hope teetered on the edge of a precipice. Yet, they resolved to make sacrifices, to play their music until the final bow, even if it meant bringing their performance to an end. Pain and fear gripped their hearts tightly, each note resonating with their anguish. Even the slightest alteration in their music could evoke turbulent emotions. Silence became unbearable, for it was a void that exposed the emptiness within. Life felt feigned and cold, as if they were mere actors on a stage, reciting lines they no longer believed in. Had they found answers to their existential questions, or had they merely painted a false image of themselves? In their pursuit for hidden wisdom, they sought out a fountain, a metaphorical sanctuary that held the key to their salvation. Like a mirage in the desert, they yearned to find solace and enlightenment. But time seemed fleeting, slipping through their fingers like sand. Would they have the ability and time to save themselves, to nurture both wisdom and love in their dwindling life? Amidst the questioning and uncertainty, their art remained a lifeline. They poured themselves into each performance, each note a testament to their struggle. Through their music, they hoped to find redemption, an answer that could bridge the chasm between their heart and the world. And so, their journey continued, a dance between love and loss, joy and sorrow. Amidst the tempest of life, they fought to keep their flame alight, knowing that even the smallest spark could ignite a fire within. They longed to find that hidden wisdom, that elusive fountain, and in doing so, find themselves once more. Their story, a tapestry woven with the threads of passion and perseverance, would forever be etched in the annals of existence. For in their reflection on past relationships and experiences, they discovered the fragile nature of love, the resilience of the human spirit, and the power of music to bring souls together, even amidst the storm.

@riaberi A gravenimage is like a replica or statue of something.. but what you said makes perfect sense considering it's a love ballad, like the gravenimage is more of a thing inside of the narrator's mind than a physical object. You've made me rethink the meaning of this song, thank you! :)
@XaleManix13 жыл бұрын
@riaberi A "Graven image" is the phrasing used to refer to idols in the Ten commandments. Considering they have a song called 8th Commandment which is about either Stealing or Lying, this seems like a good explanation.

@sophieliemann26118 жыл бұрын
***** Sadly the new album is really terrible compared to what you are used to from SA. :( "The 9th Hour"... The melodies sound like made without any inspiration, lyrics are kinda dumb.. most sounding like empty... :( Pretty much just a shadow of what SA used to be. :( I really tried to get into it since for example i also needed some time to love "the days of greys".. Its like you see sparks glowing sometimes and keep hoping for more.. but the fire is just not starting. :(

I just can't agree at all. SA just evolved (Tony did) and the new SA (which was lost in Stones grow her name) just find their new way, and the last album is just amazing, I'm in live with "the ninth hour" :) everybody has a different opinion about SA, some think old SA was better, some thinks that new is better... I think SA is one of the only band whom doing whatever they love, evolving however they need, and that's why it's becoming (in my opinion) one of the Greatest in the world :)

+Ausi Kain there's also another interpretation, the song could mean that he had to leave someone he cared about to fulfill his life as a musician. However, after a long time, the muse just disappeared and he was left with nothing, neither the love of his life nor inspiration. That's why he sees himself as a gravenimage, cause he's now confused and the past is just a gravenimage of himself (or at least he doesnt know, the song inspires confusion and regret). That's why he says at the end that if he finds the fountain of youth and wisdom, would he be able to keep them both? (the song ends with a question. You can feel the frustration of the main character, Tony is too good at writing.)
