Not only do I find everything you do informative and fun, but I recommend your channel to all my students to help them understand things in a deeper way. My background was in percussion which I think is why this piece resonated so much with me when I first heard it so many years ago. Thanks very much.

Perfect analysis! I really enjoyed it. I'm in love with this piece. I stopped playing the piano a few years ago and can barely read notes but learned this peace through KZbin tutorials and now I can almost play every part. This video was a pleasure.

See, I’ve analyzed the form of this rondo and I get something more detailed than yours, specifically this: A minor section - A Parallel thirds in C major - B A major theme - C F# Minor section - D Scales in A major - E Leading to this for the whole piece |: A :||: B A :||: C :||: D :||: E D :||: C :||: A :||: B A :||: C :| Coda As you can see, mine has the A major octaves as the main theme, even though it doesn’t come first and ternary form episodes, leading to the reverse of the typical rondo. Typical rondo is Main theme, Episode until the final statement of the main theme. Here, you have an Episode first rondo.

Of course that is a more detailed structure that is correct. I went for a more simplified version here in order to bring out what I feel most important. That's the beauty of analayses, you can do them differently. The reason is I think that A and B is too close to be called separate sections. In this case I would call them |: A1 :||: A2 A1' :|. The same with D and E.

Hi, I have a question , why is it Alla Turca in A major? Shouldn’t it be in A minor because it starts in A minor???
@caterscarrots3407
@caterscarrots3407 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hello It’s in A major because that’s the key of the sonata and the key that the movement ends in. In fact, this sonata is one of those few that has all the movements in the same key. Another example is Beethoven’s Sonata in Eb "The Hunt". Even though it technically has an Ab major middle movement, it still feels like the whole movement is in Eb major, thus me bringing it up as an example.
@SonataSecrets
@SonataSecrets 4 жыл бұрын
Carrots is right, it's the shole sonata that is "in A major". It's hard to decide what to call this movement because it goes between A minor and A major so much. Gun to my head I would go with A minor though, since it's not uncommon for movements in minor to end in major.
@caterscarrots3407
@caterscarrots3407 4 жыл бұрын
@@SonataSecrets See, I would go with A major because I've only really seen 2 ways that a movement in minor ends in major where I would still consider the movement to be in minor, those being: 1) Picardy Third, as happens often in Chopin and is also common in the Baroque 2) Dramatic purpose, like we keep the tension of the minor going for a while and then it Bam! releases on a major chord mid-movement. Shostakovich for example does this in his fifth symphony final movement. Beethoven does this often only to thwart the nice, calm major with the presence of a diminished seventh chord that brings us back to minor Here in this Mozart movement, to me, the A minor seems more like an episode than anything else and the majority of the piece relates back to the A major, so I would consider this movement to be in A major like the other 2 sonata movements(which also involve that same back and forth between A major and A minor).

Unfortunately no, I haven't done the Appassionata as of now. I have played it though, so maybe in the future. The 2nd movement is a lovely set of variations over the simple chorale that starts it.
