They have the most healthiest relationship in the whole kdrama history, no one can tell me otherwise. The fact that Chayoung knew immediately Vincenzo was part of the Mafia but never told him to change is what I always needed from a female lead. To accept her partner for who he really is. She supported him even though she knows its wrong because that the only way Vincenzo could achieve “justice”. She always apologized if she crossed the line (first kiss and hug). She never made him choose between her and his Italian family. She’s strong inside out. I know for one that Vincenzo will always be loyal to Chayoung even if they aren’t by each other’s side 24/7 because its their souls that are intact to one another. Their bond is really strong compare to any other kdrama couples.

@@nis2532 Yes! So far, they have the most mature relationship among kdrama couples I’ve seen. (I watched a ton fyi) It’s ironic because their personalities are a complete opposite. Chayoung being chaotic af while Vincenzo giving out a “I don’t give af” energy. There was never a toxic or immature moment between them. They grew closer, had deep conversations, gave advices and let one another do what they want, were never forceful to one another and were there for each other when they needed someone the most. I just love everything about their relationship. Also the way I see it, they were never enemies from the start (although Chayoung did despise Vincenzo from the start) I don’t think both of them considered one another as rivals even though both of them have the same career. That’s another thing I love about these two! ❤️

Here's what broke me: When in the early part of the drama cha young ask vincenzo if he ever killed someone, he lies and say no, then he ask what she would think of him if he was that kind of person. Cha young replies that she would still speak to him but it would feel like if they belonged to two very different worlds, and that Vincenzo would appear to her like a painting to watch from far away. When at the art gallery Vincenzo says "war and art are supposed to be looked from far away". He repeats this in the last episode. Finally, when Vincenzo is leaving after the kiss, cha young looks at him from far away just like she was looking at the painting just some moments before. He appears between two walls, the music change to a melancholic melody, then he disappear. They belong to two completely different worlds. She is a lawyer in Korea and he is a criminal hiding in Malta. What broke me about his drama and I thought was just perfect is this bitter sweet ending.

I think this is a true love that is meant to let the other go, wishing them the best. It's sad but so realistic! And I think that is awesome because is heartbreaking but also an amazing reflection of true love as accepting the other person as they are and get from love the best you can out of the circomstances and feel blessed by the awareness that even if he is an evil, tormented soul someone on the other side of the world will always be on his side no matter what, because they understand each other.

To everyone calling this a 'bittersweet ending', please don't!! It's absolutely a *sweet* ending! A man like Vincenzo would never leave *after* he confesses to a woman he is in love with, by kissing her LIKE THAT lol. He came back to her with an ironclad plan, an island, a changed profession, and an undoubtable confession. He kept his restraint throughout the show, and showed his affection openly *only* after he had a plan to come back. He sent her those postcards with a clear intention to keep her thinking of him, because he *always* planned to come back to her someday (there are 11 postcards starting literally from the month he left), plus all the gold he has yet to sort. He would *never* keep her bound to him if he couldn't make it back into her life permanently, because she matters the most to him, so he wouldn't give her anything halfway. It would always be all of him, or nothing. In this case, it was *ALL* of him. He told her his true feelings *only* when he was ready to give and receive all the love that he thought he didn't deserve before. My man took a whole YEAR to prepare an island into a home, probably building a whole bungalow for her which he was calling a 'room', changed his whole ass profession into a vigilante, simply because he plans on being with HCY long term! I can *very* easily see them spending their time in Malta and also South Korea in the future. With ALL 3 of his fans in the International Security Department of South Korea, I'm sure they can make him invisible for however long he would like to visit her. And of course she can go to Malta and check out her 'room' anytime she likes! They also still have the gold to sort for which they both will work together, and also V has to meet the monks and other tenants some day, because the monks were certain that meeting him was going to happen again one way or the other, and the monks don't lie! It's an open ending, but certainly a happy one.

To buttress your point… I don’t remember exactly the folklore but in a way he had compared their love to it. When he and cha young said inhabit will build a bridge of pigeons for them to meet again. @@km4927 Yeah, another thing about the promises, he said he never makes promises to anyone outside of business, but to Hong Cha Young he made THREE promises, first was to not kill anyone in their revenge quest, second was that he will take care of himself in Italy, and third was that he will come back. Again, a man like Vincenzo would never make a promise unless he meant to satisfy it fully. I counted 11 postcards, but for me that just meant that he was constantly thinking of her, to send her one every month even while he was busy building a whole ISLAND into a home! I like all your analyses. I concur with everything you’ve written. The 12th postcard was the one we saw in the series before she hung it on the ‘wall’ with the others. I’ve never seen this thought any where; and I’m curious to know what you think. I suspect Vincenzo began to have a liking towards cha young, the day he visited her dad and asked if he had another daughter. Clearly cha young had blossomed into a beautiful young lady compared to her pictures from when she was young. He must have deduced she was a lonely child, a bit like him: I have come to ‘understand’ of course I could be wrong, that ‘unattractiveness’ is not exactly celebrated in Kore. There is a big emphasis on beauty. Beautiful people are liked more, have preferential treatment, more friends etc. I suppose one could argue that it’s like that every where; but I think it is especially so in the South Korean society. I recall seeing Vincenzo look at Cha young differently when she came to her dad’s house when he was there. It is a clever script and Song Joong Ki cleverly expressed nuanced emotions and thoughts.

@@km4927 you said it well..SouthKorea places emphasis on beauty & physical looks...Even some songsong fans were bashing JYB saying she was not as pretty as SHK..Even up till now...Can't blame their jealousy & insecurity though...Interestingly enough, a lot of women In South Korea are also tired of this "perfect beauty" standard they have in their country & they finally see a lady that's confident in her new short hair,looks ethereal in hanbok attire,laughs a lot ,worked hard to where she was & doesn't give a damn if people like her or not as long as she has a supportive network around her... JYB was able to portray & transfer this carefree confident attitude to almost all the characters she plays irrespective ofbtheir personality & I like that...That's what SJK/Vincenzo sees in JYB/Hong Cha Young, she doesn't care about her image yet she's cares about her work being excellent & giving it the best..A woman who is a ride or die...Remember JYB & SJK are 91%of their characters as said by SJK himself...Better the being yourself kinda woman & your man knows his woman got his back than being the self image conscious woman & your man cannot even be content with his woman having his back...So yes,Vincenzo meant business when he sent those postcards💯

New to the kdrama world and I guess I'll be rocking the boat a little... I have been trying to see what is so 'dumbfoundingly gorgeous' about SHK... I can't seem to see it. Good looking I suppose, it appears to me that her face is symmetrical which would make it a photographer's delight; but that said, it's sad to compare JYB, or any other actress that SJK will act with, to her. They have different types of features, and I guess beauty. I wish all the Vincenzo cast much success in the future; whether they 'fit' the mould of SK's beauty or handsomeness standards.

exactly. which is why i don't agree with those who want a second season just so they can show us being romantic together. i think an important part of the storyline is the maturity they have to sustain their relationship even when they're afar. how chayoung never asked vincenzo to stay or to change. she just accepts that this is his reality and she's ready to love him and be with him nonetheless. i also liked how vincenzo showed his jealousy in a non-toxic and non-suffocating way. their relationship is really pure and this is what i like about (enemies to) friends to lovers trope. i feel like giving them a wedding or more romantic scenes would just make them one of the typical kdrama couples. i'm glad the drama ended realistically this way.

From the very first she accept Joongki for who he is despite his past and she has no worry at all about having good relationship with him since their first day. She's just being honest and true and trustworthy and Joongki fall for it i think. Thats why their chemistry is beyond words. And here they are now, together, living their love story in an unforgettable way. Her going to Malta, him sneaking to South Korea whenever he can, and them meeting all over the world on all the countries and all the continents. And because when a story is given to the public it belongs to the public too, I believe that years after,Hong Cha Young will clean Vincenzo from the accusations against him,the way she did with his mother. And he will be free to come to Korea whenever he wants.

I like this scene. There is a lot of symbolism with the setting, the stairs show how much they have been through to come here, and they show the opposite of how much they still have to go. And like the fact that they are standing on a landing, and then as she starts going up the stairs away from him while he is still on that landing he climbs a few steps and reaches to where she is and kisses her. Then the camera pans and shows you the steps... how many have been left behind and how many are left.... and at that moment when they are kissing... they are at the same point... they both love each other, at that point there is no need to go anywhere to reach the other person. Just right where they are is where they want to go. And if you go and watch it again.... when they are talking to each other the stairs are blurred in ones background and in the other it’s just the wall .... in that you can also see both their journeys, how they both have reached here but oh how so different their paths were. It’s really interesting cause there aren’t that many words in this scene, like there are words and the sentences are long... but the emotions and meanings they are portraying and delivering through their acting and setting just makes this scene so much more impactful.

That last kiss, I think it was the most appropriate time to finally show their own feeling. After 1 year has passed, their eyes can't lie. They are longing for each other. Vin was being hesitated all this time. But his feeling remain grow over time and he can't hide it anymore. Despite what he was said before about "Villain doesn't deserve to love" he finally decides to love because he is now sure about his feeling toward Cha Young. And when he decided to love, he will be tenacious. Their bond will grow strong. I believe in Vincenzo universe, Cha Young will finally come to Malta, to stay in the room that Vin has made.

I noticed throughout the drama Vicenzo always looked to Chayoung for assurance/checking if she’s okay. Especially when he was about to do something mafia-like that might take Chayoung by surprise. She always give him a subtle nod telling him it’s okay/she’s alright. Example, when he came back from the airport, before he fought those thugs, he looked back at Chayoung as if asking for permission. I’m gonna miss this drama so much!

this scene was so beautiful pls - vincenzo was always afraid to take the first step because he thought that he didn't deserve love because of his mafia side, hence why chayoung always initiated everything in the beginning (hugging, the fake kiss at the art exhibit, honest words). her actions that vincenzo was afraid to do first left him to respond to her, leading him to recognize his feelings. now that he's been gone for a year, he's realized how much he loves her and how much her presence meant to him. finally being with her after a year, he didn't want to miss his chance - so he kissed her first. he's accepted that they cannot have a relationship like a normal couple because he abides to the mafia life and different principles, just like chayoung does. but he's realized that he can have love, maybe not in a relationship where the couple is physically together, but always be their side (ost!) at heart. this kind of relationship would be tough, but vincenzo and chayoung love each other so much and truly understand each other. they’ve come a long way

You know those scenes where you have to pause and your just sitting there staring at a wall for 10 minutes looking like you've been shot? Yup. AND WHILE WE'RE HERE. Notice how throughout their journey he explains how she needs to act like a villain to fight against the evil around them. HERE, he says VillainS like he's 100% talking about themmmm. Like ON TOP of having the determination to hold on to each other (~tenacious~), THEY ALSO HAVE LOOOOVVEEEE. Sorry for shouting. I'm ruined.

Hong Cha Young truly the best female lead character in Kdrama ever. Smart, beautiful, strong, brave, confident, witty, funny, very understanding, not demanding, and the most important, SHE ACCEPTED VINCENZO AS A WHOLE (past, present, and future).

I love how realistic Vin & HCY'S relationship goes...I love the acceptance despite their evident flaws...Nobody is trying to change another person...A lot of breathing space & having each other's impromptu back moments...I love how they decided to allow nature take its course while enjoying each other's presence & learning from each other, despite the limited time they knew they had.... True enough we all would end up having a 'vincenzo " or "vincenzos" in our lives,question is "would we be the Cha Young to that vincenzo? It made me question a lot of things I thought I knew about love,friendship & life in general.. Both the rich & the poor relate to this drama.. It's like we were part of the series ourselves... This drama kicked fantasy out of our faces! We didn't have to imagine "can this happen to me real life ,can I relate to this drama?". We didn't have to ask ourselves that...We knew we could have been; 🗿Cha Young who had the knowledge about her enemies, 🗿Guemza plaza tenants who were defenseless, 🗿Han Seok who was a coward, 🗿Cha Young 's father who also had a weak knowledge & means but was weak in fighting the forces that be (Babel in the drama) , 🗿 the helpless people without a voice that were killed & 🗿vincenzo who had the means & connection but didn't want to involve himself initially because all he wanted was his personal interest (gold in the drama)! This drama calls for a reflection to us all... Which category are you in? This drama has beem currently on Netflix 's Top 10 series worldwide in 2021 for close to 2 months now... It didn't get to that list by mistake! It's a wakeup call to different people who are authentic across the world who are either the characters or are gradually becoming the characters knowingly or unknownigly..

HCY deserve the whole universe. From the starting to the end HCY never force or manipulate him to stay with her or to spend time with her. If anyone needs V she always told him to go and help them. Even tho now V can't stay in Korea and she can see him once in year for one day but she support him and was happy for him. She told him that it's okay I can visit you if you can't. After find out V still a mafia and now become a boss she congrats him without any hesitate. HCY really love V but it doesn't mean you can prove your love by staying with the person you love. Their love has no boundaries. They both love, support and respect each other. Honestly I started this drama for SJK but fallen in love head over heels for JYB.

When SJK(Vincenzo) said the ending was a sad one in one of his interviews, I had to see things from his direction because to me it didn't feel sad... For me,I thought also like JYB(Hong Cha Young) when she said in her 1st Interview after the drama, that HCY can always visit Vincenzo in Malta...She would not let go even though she can be mature in letting go too... SJK said in his interview that to Vincenzo,HCY was the/an ideal woman... I couldn't help but feel he was talking about JYB...Not when he said they are both 91% of their characters... I understand him though, life hit him pretty hard after the divorce & after meeting an ideal woman(JYB) you've grown accustomed to after leaving a divorce that tore you,you feel empty when she's (JYB)not close to you after spending 8 months together on set that changed your life by the way... One of SJK'S love language is touch while one of JYB'S is words of affection/depth as seen from their interviews & BTS & SJK'S past marriage when he attended events with his ex-wife... If at all JYB & SJK end up together in marriage, it would last because of what brought them together & how they built their friendship...I can imagine what they will tell their kids about how they met😍 And even after the last day on set after they hugged each other on bed at the last scene, they have not been seen together real life interviews & all... Looking forward to red carpet /award moments though.. And that's why July 7 hits different...Reading the Korean Valentine love story, I could understand...Their love was strong irrespective of the distance between them... Now I get why that hospital hug scene was intimate... Now I get why the 2nd kiss was intimate & it felt like I was intruding on a moment.. Now I get why the director created that comfortable atmosphere on set... Now I get why she was his healing vitamin on Vincenzo set... I have sooo been getting a lot of things👌🏾... I'm also glad JYB wasn't with SJK in all the post interviews or had a photoshoot even though I was annoyed at first & didn't understand...They fed us a lot of BTS & we loved it! At least,she gets to maintain her dignity as a woman & status as an actress who got to where she is by hardwork not by' attaching' herself to SJK to get more popularity judging from her initial status even though she's popular & has a lot of awards to her belt in just in 6 years because she debuted in 2015..If you know,you know... So proud of JYB👏🏾 I love the way she's blossoming... And for someone like JYB, she's grateful , happy & honored to be a major part of the drama's success story,it's forever known that she was the FL of the hit drama Vincenzo! It's not your every drama/movie that gets to blow the way Vincenzo did..Moreover this was her first FL role & she nailed it! No other could have played Lawyer HCY🥳 (All thanks to SJK for helping her & fully supporting her transition, he was indeed the best partner ever for her seeing he could understand the weight of handling such a role the 1st time, since he experienced the same back when he had his first ML role too! He even bought her a lot of food on set & listened to her opinions...Talk about meeting the right person at the right time y'all!)...JYB is an excellent actress that is bound to go places & break barriers in the industry judging from her past works✌🏾🤌🏾 When asked about the drama in her interview,in her words,it's both a "miracle & a gift"..Having read all her past interviews, I had to agree & it resonated deeply within me...You should also read her interviews on yeo-been's social media fans platform, you might cry like I did & you will also get a lot of wisdom...JYB is just a deep woman,lucky is/are her child(ren) ...And based on my experience of knowing different people from all works of life,it is those from humble beginning who laugh a lot are the ones that have scars/had years of struggle within...I would love to meet her mother, she deserves all the thanks, praise & a life of comfort in this world..She raised 3 wonderful children well💯 No wonder JYB was able to pull SJK into her world,she's been through deep shit! Well,only time will tell for these lovely 2... Till then,I keep my fingers crossed, enjoy being a Cencha/JeonKi stan ,pray for them individually & support them too . Whether they end up together or not,I am satisfied with their friendship💯... If they do end up together, the Vincenzo director woman deserves a speech at the wedding reception😉..She assembled this great cast & also gave JYB & SJK a lot of breathing space & support on set that brought out that beautiful chemistry & sparking romance... The Vincenzo BTS was indeed another love story entirely...

Love the allusion of Chilseok folk tales in this scene where the diplomatic celebration was the day they reunited. And also, his confession was bitter sweet and sad, but was definite GOLD. He practically determined to make her life stuck with him forever. That’s our corn salad 🥺
