Such a good adaptation of Tolkien's words to music. And great job on translating and reconstructing the Sindarin.

I nam naer....... I love your Video and I really like your translation. It's grat. Thanks. The tale of Lúthien and Beren is one of my most favourite in the Silmarillion. The whole story is both sad and happy. But in my opinion the sad part pervails. It's in some way like one of the old greece tragedies, e.g. Oedipus. The melody is beautiful as well. Thank you for this great video. :)

Well, I would die, plead with Mandos, give up my immortality (if I had it...), and then die AGAIN for this score! :)

Oh, okay. I googled it yesterday because I'm doing some work on Tolkien for school but I couldn't find much. Great video, though. I love it =þ

In my opinion a film would ruin their legend. There is no woman who could ever cope with the beauty of Lúthien. I like how you just have to use your own creativity to make their story come to life and everyone has his own interpretation.

A movie would be sooooo awesome! I'm not really a big fan of romance movies (I'm a guy), but I would see this and hope it gets big fans of romance movies (i.e. teen girls) into Tolkien, as I'm a teen guy and I love tolkien

Only just now is Christopher Tolkien finally publishing the tale of Beren and Lúthien

rometotalsam - I wouldn't hold my breath: Tolkien never sold the rights on the Silmarillion or any other work besides The Hobbit and LOTR and that's unlikely to change if you consider how Christopher feels about the PJ movies. So, maybe after they fall in the public domain? But I'm not so sure if I would like to see a movie adaptation given what 'The Hobbit' turned out like. I'm really afraid that it would make it much harder to be enchanted by the stories using my own imagination as I can now; and it would almost certainly deny that to people who did not read the book first. In the meantime, why don't you try listening to the excellent audiobook version read by Martin Shaw? I can certainly recommend that!

ALOT happened during the era Beren and Luthien were alive. MANY things. there is alot to be appreciated. And nothing wrong with being a guy such as myself who enjoys REAL romances.. and this was not some other typical thing. it's part of something much bigger. his works still touch peoples hearts and for 1000s of years in the future. many messages from the man who he found not too many people to relate to with the knowledge he actually had. not just from his travels and from being in the army and seen alot of dark things such as his son seen too. read the letters!

I don't think I would really want to see this aimed at teen girls, as quality tends to diminish drastically when targeted at that particular audience. When teen girls are in mind, it doesn't do much justice to... Anything... I would hate to see the tale of Beren and Luthien done in the style of Reign or Twilight...

I can’t actually tell, this album had songs by Sir Christopher Lee, and his voice was deeper, but it could… maybe be him?

The Tolkien Ensemble and Christopher Lee's Complete Songs and Poems! £50 on ebay (although it seems to be cheaper on the German ebay) but well worth the money if you're a fan! (p.s. Not all the music on the discs are the same style as this, for example, the Hobbits music is more.....bouncy, of you follow me! XD)

@cluckgirl That's why I was reading about Music in Middle-Earth, a project for a class. I'm glad that you are still interested, even though the project is done. There are a ton of good books & such out there. Try checking out books by Tom Shippey, H. Carpenter, Isaacs & Zimbano (or similar), Eden, Verilyn Flieger, and Jane Chance ... there might be something of interest in one or all of them.

I've always been a fan of this tale (More so than the Lord of the rings itself). I'm curious, How accurate are the Sindarin captions? and which text did you use to translate it? I ask only out of academic interest, and because I've been looking for an accurate Sindarin translation of this poem for a long time to transcribe into the tengwar! Please get back to me if you're able!

@cluckgirl I just read an essay about Victorian poets inspiring Tolkien -- It's by Brad Eden & can be found in "Middle-Earth Minstrel" Also, try the Kalavala (Finnish mythology) -- the Tale of Kullervo is very similar to that of Turin Turambar from the Silmarillion

Who is the voice?

It’s one of the singers from the Tolkien Ensemble from Denmark, but I don’t know his name. He’s definitely a classically trained singer so with that it should be possible to find him. I’ll also give it a try.

No offense, but I don't think opera is right for Tolkien's work, mostly because I doubt it existed in the timeframe Tolkien was going for ( something in between 9th and 13th century I believe). A style that seems more like reading a poem than singing seems better.
