Although the Tujia do have a language in the Tibeto-Burman language family, most Tujia no longer use this language, speaking Chinese instead. There are only about 70,000 speakers of Tujia, out of a total population of 8 million Tujia. Although the singer is Miao, this song is sung in Chinese.

She has only 1/4 Miao(Hmong) blood from her grandma(mom's mother), both her father and mother are HAN Chinese, She was brought up by her grandma, so she keeps the same ethnic with her gramma as Miao.
