Why is he telling a different story here??? Gives new meaning to dazed and confused. Is this is just another self-entitled rock star who thinks he can run off with anyone's daughter? kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3bahWSjitx7pKM Is he just making up a feel good story to cover up more his rather more nefarious intentions, or is there a genuine story of humanity here. He certainly is doing more to muddy the waters than to clear things up for people to see his true intentions.

A G according to Wikipedia, Benny was born in 1946, and unless there was a Blitzkrieg in the 60s I don’t know about, I’d say Benny was telling an entertaining fib to promote Angie McCartney’s memory. Later on in the text form of the Songfacts interview he says that Heidi went on to marry the son of a house builder from Cuba, so absolutely Benny did not, would not end up with her.

The story he told wasn’t what I was expecting to hear. That’s very touching how he helped those young people deal with their father’s desertion. It sounded like a painful time for them. I also love how he protected the sixteen year old girl from his friend by saying “she’s just sixteen years old, leave her alone”. That’s good advice and apparently a good song concept. I did wonder why the video showed a sixteen year old girl being groomed by an older man. Back in my day a man or woman would call a young person that age “jail bait” because that’s where you’d end up messing with someone that young. I doubt as an artist you have a lot of control of how your music is marketed by record companies. He didn’t mention the video concept so I’ll leave it at that. I have to confess the song reminds me of when I was 18 and l fell for a guy who was 32. He was my first real adult love. He was embarrassed by our relationship, but I felt mature. But in the end, I was too young and immature because I broke his heart. I love the artistry of the song and the talent, but like he said “she’s just sixteen years old, leave her alone.” No making out on flying carpets or anywhere else.

People get a clue this man is amazing you never lived back then or maybe you didn't loose your father... oh and by the way I did..but people get the wrong perception of Benny he is an angel no one ever has to give you anything...but it was more than the money it was his heart he and recognized the pain that these kids were going through...and he made a difference......he never went after a 16 year old he wrote a song that mirrors her pain..... ...take a moment to understand his words....and what he did.

@prettyyoungthingpyt50156 жыл бұрын
That video didn't show her pain. It showed an older man peering through the bedroom window of a teen girl, then later making out on a carpet. He should HAVE MADE A VIDEO OF HIM GRABBING THE GUY BY THE NECK AND SAYING "HEY, SHE'S JUST 16 YRS OLD LEAVE HER ALONE".. Then we would buy his bullshit story. He's lucky that back then people weren't as triggered about pedophilia as they are righteously now, as they should be...

Hahaha! Whoever buys this story should hit me up. I'll sell you the rights to the song cheap cheap. I'll make you a package deal song rights and the Brooklyn bridge for $100. ..no. make that $50. Unfortunately for Benny hamburglar, he had no concept of KZbin when he was telling conflicting stories about who the 16 yo girl really is in his life. There's another video floating around KZbin called Benny Mardones' Farewell to Angie McCartney. In it, he says its written about her.. besides, isnt he doing it backwards? I love this song, the video, and I love his voice! You can tell how much this song meant to him while he sings it. I heard the story behind the lyrics, and I think(just my opinion) that this was just the beginning of how he came to meet the kids, and esp. Heidi. I think maybe over time of her coming over to walk the dog every morning he probably really grew a connection/attraction to her, and he wanted to express it through this song . It is a beautiful romantic song, and I know that when a girl is 16 she is attracted to the idea of an older man being attracted to her. I think Benny started off wanting to help, and ended up really liking this girl because why not ever mention the older sister the 17 year old girl? Benny Mardones what a sweet soul you will be missed , but your song will live on, and will continue to make people smile.

Wow. I lived that too as a girl. My Dad left my Mom and 3 babies 3weeks before Christmas. I didn’t know him until I was 16 and had to live with him and his NEW Family and met and fell in love with a young guy who worked with him and I was and still am in love with this man but I had to leave because he was abusive I never told anyone I just left. The heartbreak pain I endured 35 years ago is still a daily feeling of loss, plus only knowing my Father for the 2 years I had to legally stay there. I was so full of pain, anger and resentment because I had a front row seat to a life he took from us and gave to others. Brutal to watch. My parents knew each other from the 5th grade, married has kids, he cheats, he leaves. 16 years later I meet him and move in and fall endlessly in love with this young man a bit older than me who brutally abused me. It was so painful to leave and although I knew I had to protect myself I didn’t want to be without this person, and sadly enough 35 years later I’m still damaged emotionally by this love that could not survive through all that. I left my fathers house because that too was unhealthy. We never spoke again. Years later, over the phone I called him in the hospital just before he died and he never not once apologized to my siblings or me not to mention my mother who did the best she could being left at 23 with 3 babies to raise. She never remarried, and I’ve never married because unfortunately I never loved anyone the way I still Love this person every single day. The pain is beyond comprehension. I’m proud I was smart and strong enough to take care of myself and leave, but I did know then he was my one true love and I couldn’t live a lie I’ve never been in love with anyone like how I feel for this person. He chose to settle marry have kids and live a lie...good on paper would never be good enough for me. P.S. I know for a fact he feels the same because he told me. This song was one that always reminded me of him....in a perfect world it should have all been very different. I truly love the real history/meaning behind this song as I just learned it now. Touching and endearing to hear a man appreciate what that family really had to deal with. I’ll never understand why some men can just walk away or hit a girl/Woman ever. For some reason I felt compelled to share all this. I have no regrets as I have lived my life with dignity and grace as best I could. Thank you for sharing this. Will always be a favorite song. 📻❤️🥀🎼

the more he explains the song the creepier it gets....."she is just 16 years old ...leave her alone they say..." "if i could fly i would pick you up...i'd take you into the night...and i show you a love like you never seen ever seen..."

This sounds like a true story to me. Benny seems like a stand up guy in every interview video I've ever seen him do. The video is a hollywooded-up video. Record companies want to sell records. In 1980 music videos were just becoming a thing and artists had very little if any say in how they were made. Just show up here and do what your told type thing. My pervometer is very accurate and I don't sense that in Benny at all. It is a beautiful song and his vocals are mind blowing on it. INCREDIBLY SEXY ;-)

Yeah pervometers are great aren't they-unfortunately mine broke down the other day. Only had it a week(made in China I think). What happened was, I aimed it towards a lady that looked like she could be into some pretty warped stuff, and within seconds it began wildly vibrating in my hand,sparks were flying in all directions, while piercing noises deafened everyone within 50 metres-until finally it exploded and completely fell apart! I never did find out whether it was due to poor workmanship,or I'd finally met the girl of my dreams and my little pervometer just couldn't handle the pace. Such is life. Um-I was just wondering-could you lend me yours?

I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt (and respect for those who have died), but my gut feeling is that there is more to the story. Why does he gloss over the tasks of the older daughter and not mention her by name? Also, why would he even notice what the 16-year old daughter is wearing? Like you, I am a Christian, so I know that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and I think this is an example. Still, a song I have always liked and never connected with anything perverse in the past. My pervometer is sounding an alarm.

@@WriterandPhotographer so what if he fell in love with the girl? Is there anything wrong? Someday teenagers grow up and they will find people even worse in their lives, Benny was a great man to take care of kids he did not even know before. And I think he wrote the song because maybe he had a crush on her and wanted to pick her up and take her into the night so she could forget about all her problems, age does not matter if two people love each other and this sounds like a beautiful story
@kelliewhyte_852 жыл бұрын
@@darrylschultz6479 yeah I agree, he seems to put much more focus on the 16 year old. I dunno, I think the song, and his voice are brilliant, but something about him is causing doubt in my pervometre.
@kelliewhyte_852 жыл бұрын
@@darrylschultz6479 I think maybe HE DID fall in love with this 16 year old (not that he did anything with her) and what he says in his song are the thoughts in his mind about her.

You're absolutely right. I really like how he sings this song and the passion in his voice, but if the official video mischaracterized the true meaning of the song, then why was it allowed to be produced depicting an older guy in his 30s targeting a 16 year old child? As a parent of three children, I believe that any decent father would take whatever action was necessary to get the guy in the video away from his daughter.
