SONGKRAN CHIANG MAI 2023 IS FINALLY BACK! 💦 (After 3 Years!)

SONGKRAN hasnt happened in Chiang Mai for 3 years! Well Songkran Chiang Mai 2023 is finally back and in full swing, with the water gun battles starting on the 11th-17th! Songkran is the Thai New year Celebrating the passage of the sun, washing away the sins and creating a blessing for the year to come! This is my second Songkran and no better place to do it that Chaing Mai in 2023!

I think this should be elevated to be a worldwide tradition like New Year's universal celebration !! I love Christmas but it still got too much of the religious undertone, somewhat so I don't think it would never be widely accepted. But SongKran is different. To forget about all our petty differences, everyone in every nations can throw water into a bucket, turn on a garden faucet, tank up a water gun, stand in front of their houses AND JUST HAVE FUN with people all around you. It hardly costs anything. No presents to buy. No places to travel to. No candies to give away. No food to cook. No Gods to pray to. No flags to solute. Just Peace & Good will toward your fellow man (with a twist of getting wet). Now why is that so appealing !!

Happy Songkran, Bren. I celebrated Songkran a couple of years ago in a city called Phayao. Where I only saw, beyond myself, 3 other foreigners. And as you can imagine, that made us big targets for the locals. It was awesome.

Why is Songkran also called the thai new year, but chinese new year can't be called chinese new year? Thailand also celebrates Chinese New Year. Songkran is proof that thailand celebrates both thai new year and chinese new year, these are 2 different celebrations. So don't cultural appropriate and rename chinese new year into lunar new year

However recently the world have been renaming the Chinese New Year as the Lunar New Year because it is a Lunar Calendar celebration. As Songkran also follows the lunar calendar. Then Songkran should actually also be considered and called a Lunar New Year. Why people only renaming the chinese new year, but not the Thai new year? That's hypocrite.
