David , I think because you learned guitar as an adult you can break music theory down simply and without pretense. Thank so much for your lessons and your calmness. Your the Bob Ross of KZbin guitar teachers. Well without the fro

As usual you do a great job on something so complex. Lots of KZbin teachers just assume you got this, I don’t think they really understand unlike you.😎

Thanks Dave! This has been explained to me many times before but your explanation and visuals have helped me make sense of the CAGED pattern.

Where one shape ends the next shape begins EXCEPT for D going to C. Where the D shape ends you go back one fret to start the C shape.

Hey David, great lesson, this was very confusing to me too when I first started trying to learn it. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "is it an E shape or an F shape"?. We learn to play the open chords different than bar chords, because they are easy. But, if you play the f -bar chord and slide that shaped down to play the E chord, your pointer becomes the Nut, hence the open chord, because the pointer is not really needed to play that chord, or any open chord, but it trains your brain to re arrange your fingers to play the bar chord shapes. Well, at least that is how I had to think about it. Hope that makes sense.

CAGED may be memorable, but WHY? I may be too tired after a day of adventure on a motorcycle so I will watch again another day.

Hey David, I have a very specific question for you. When playing E-shaped bar chords with thumb over top how to make sure A string (5th) doesn't ring out while changing chords Anyway thanks for the lesson

You do realize that the E cord on your opening title pic is incorrect. Sorry, my OCD just can't get past that. It's one fret off when compared to the others.
