Songs of Komo

I created this video for use by people who are interested in the art of the famous and powerful Komo society in West Africa. Although there is no video, the soundtrack is completely authentic, and there are numerous images of Komo masks being used, and in museums. I recorded this at the funeral of a very famous elder of the Komo in southwest Burkina Faso in 1999.

Thank You for publishing Your work. Most enlightening. I bought some Dogon masks for their abstract appeal. I tok them home. Little did i know what a journey the masks would take me on. This was Britain before the iconoclastic puritans set about purging the Morris out of Us. They made us into their own frank image first by apeing Clan customs and dress of their vanquished noble hosts & by fashions dictates reduced the tradition to token insignia.

No, this is it. Although there are many Africans who have recorded songs of Komo, I seem to be about the only foreigner who has recorded and published. There may some videos made by Africans in Mali and Burkina, but I doubt it. The Komos are very secretive.
