Lol back in 2012 when I was in college, a 10-year-old girl I was babysitting was singing the “Whistle” song loudly while we were doing chores together, and my eyes got real big lol…I asked her, “Do you even know what that song’s about?” She replied, “Yes-whistles, of course!”, looking at me as if it were obvious. As someone who's worked with kids for years now, I can confirm that this is just part of the childhood experience. Nothing can quite top a gaggle of children yelling the chorus of "Closer" as you and the bus driver make uncomfortable eye contact. Also, whichever parent first decided to let their kid listen to Lil Nas X has a lot to answer for.

And in my town there's a Candy store that I really wanted to go to, because I'm a candy junkie, and it's actually an adult entertainment naked people establishment. 😢 A lot of my childhood is unknowingly R-rated and nobody told me, I just eventually figured it out on my own.

I remember hearing so many songs growing up that I didn't understand the meaning behind, ha ha. Don't Trust Me and Starstrukk by 3OH!3, Hey Ya! and Miss Jackson by Outkast, I Write Sins Not Tragedies by P!@TD, Timber and Hotel Room Service with Pitbull, a lot of Usher and Jason Derulo songs... And not even just sexually or romantically toned songs, either. I genuinely didn't realize that Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People was about school sh**ters and Paper Planes by MIA had multiple meanings. I really think that truly growing up is developing maturity and understanding of the world you're in, and music kinda proves it.
