A number of years ago, my husband was so ill in a hospital in Paris. When I left at the end of the day, I went to the Cite de la Musique and heard you and the Silk Road Ensemble play and felt such comfort and uplift. Later the two of us were so happy to hear you at the Theatre de Champs Elysées together. And less than a year ago, he passed away and again i am being comforted by your generous heart and kind music. Hi, first off, as a family doc who has been feeling really overwhelmed in the last few months, I want to thank you for your gift of this recording. I wanted to share with you that I happened upon this recording in the last week, which marks 25 years since a sister of mine was diagnosed with cancer, from which she passed in 2000. When I heard this song I was transported back to a time when she was alive-she actually sang Simple Gifts with her choir. I had this image of the music sitting on my piano in my childhood home and it brought tears to my eyes. Then yesterday I was listening to Empire Wild and their new 2-cello cover of Julie-O and it referenced Simple Gifts in there! I felt like I was being messaged by my sister! Thank you so much for your gift of music and this song. 💗
