There is no greater than Franco in song, no greater than Franco on the opera stage. Franco rediscovered is a dream come true.

German...very well stated. As you know Corelli is my all time favorite. My friend who had won the Met audtions in the 60s was on stage with him for 24 performances during his three years at the Met. He was an outstanding spinto tenor in his own right...called Corelli the greatest vocal tenor of the past century.

Corelli hater and lovers alike agree on one thing: no one sang Calaf better. I just don't see how anyone could come near him in this role. Sure his voice wasn't suited for lyrical roles and he had some strange mannerisms, but this was undoubtedly one of the most glorious sounds to come from a man's throat.

Corelli had an amazing Tenor but no finesse,loudness isnt great art,he wasnt as great as Pavarotti or Kauffmann now

Colin Dowson, the beautiful thing about opera is that it is art, and is subjective in regards to taste :) I LOVE Corelli, but I also love Luci Pav and Jonas. My voice teacher said it best, there is no perfect singer, they become famous for what they do well, in spite of what they do badly. I made this video when I was in college and just discovering these types of voices. My dear friend passed this recording to me and there was no record of it on the internet; so being young and excitable, I put it up! As far as Luciano goes he was and always will be my first love. The tenor who I "impersonated" and realized wow, I can do this! :) Thank you for loving opera, that's all any of us can say!

How does "loudness isn't great art" critique Corelli? =Franco Corelli had amazing "finesse", a dazzling vibrant sound, sensuous, urgent animal drive, fearless, electrifying and in the moment exactly where art needs to be. Pavarotti had a sweet lyrical voice (with a limited range) but was no match for Corelli on stage. Pavarotti avoided Turandot & Italian blood operas with good reason.The German helden Kauffmann has a cow in the bucket sound. A monotonous voice not carrying well without high tech mic enchancement. Should stick to German opera and avoid Italian. No squillo, no ring or brightness, doesn't soar. Kaufmann's throaty vocal qualities not exceptional. Domingo on Corelli="He was the most impressive tenor I have ever heard..sensational" Karajan ""A voice of heroic power, yet with great beauty of tone, darkly sensuous, mysteriously melancholic... but above all, a voice of thunder and lightening, fire and blood..He was the most viscerally thrilling and handsome tenor of the post World War Two generation." Pavarotti ="Corelli was the greatest dramatic tenor who ever lived..."

Frankly you don't know what you're talking about. Ironic you pick this role where he was the greatest Calaf in history. Pav was great in his fach, but was a lyric tenor. Is Kaufmann really a tenor?
@labienus99686 жыл бұрын
The guy who made this comment is foolish. But your description of Kauffmann is right on the mark.
