But there was a time in the past when, in my opinion, this party could have moved on from the family and could've been an ideology based party in true sense. But those congressis brought Sonia Gandhi, effectively choosing immediate revival over long term relevance. I wonder why did so many strong figures like Sharad Pawar, Mamata Bannerjee, YR Jaganmohan Reddy etc quit congress when there was no ideological difference... That's the excuse she gave to the public, that her "inner voice" told her not to accept PM post. But had she really become PM, that would have been challenged in the court and probably she might have had to step down. I don't have anything against her personally, she had married Rajiv Gandhi and she is an Indian citizen, no disputes. However I will never accept her as PM (so do crores of other citizens). When we have over a billion Indian born citizens why should we rally behind a woman of Italian origin? Can't we find someone more eligible among Indians?

They supported him as a minister of the government since he was an ally and was skilled for the position. But why would they support him in a high position, when he opposed the parties main positions.
