Sonic 2 Long Version - Walkthrough

Sonic 2 Long Version (aka Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Long Version) is a more complete version of Sonic 2, which makes it somewhat similar to Sonic 2 Delta. This hack features four levels originally scrapped during Sonic 2's development. No levels have been changed, only added. This hack was written in hex, without the aid of any special hacking programs, because the creator uses a Mac, and no hacking tools had been released on that platform at the time of development.

I really like the concept of Dust Hill Zone where you start off in a desert and then the stage transitions into what looks to be winter. The problem though is that its maze-like level design is counter-intuitive to the 10 minute time limit Sonic 2 (and the other Genesis games have). It ends up being a pain getting a time over because of either my curiosity in exploring every nook and cranny of the stage or me just straight up getting lost in the fucking stage.

if i recall correctly i believe that "genocide city" isnt as grim and deadly as the name suggests. it was going to be a level with lots of machinery, not unlike metropolis zone. in fact the level design was taken and put into metropolis zone which explains act 3. i also recall hearing that the tileset for "the machine" in sonic pinball was eather inspired or out right taken from genocide city.

+MrStrikecentral Sega/Sonic Team added a new boss when they put in Hidden Palace Zone into the Android/IOS port of Sonic 2. They actually changed up some parts of the game too (there is a new portion of Hill Top Zone that only Tails and Knuckles can access for instance). The new Hidden Palace Zone boss was kinda similar to Robotnik's Hydrocity Zone Act II boss fight in Sonic 3.

I notice in the deleted courses, some of it were just repeats and so were the bosses in deleted levels. I guess the repeats came from unfinished projects and got put together to make it a full course. Also I wonder if chemical plant zone was meant to be the deleted level of Death Egg Zone, that would explain the similar layout. Same as for why the music was different for the courses for 2 players. I always wondered why they made the music different for 2 player.

No need, already have both. And why do you think save states are cheats? As the name implies, you can use save states to hold your place and pick up at a later time, should the game not have an in-game save feature (i.e Sonic 1 and 2.) I also prefer Bizhawk emulators. It has everything you need to make a Tool Assisted Video while still being an emulator you can use for fun. Save states are also used for undoing mistakes. Like in golfing games they have mulligans you use to redo a shot. That's not cheating, it's just a do-over. I don't really understand how people thing Save States are cheating. It's a features used to save your place, like an in game save file except without the hassle.

The Hidden Palace boss was actually Robotinik with horn blowing down explosives and you have to make sure water blasted up into Robotinik and then you had to hit him until he flew back into the air. If you try hitting him without the water blasters, unless you're Super Sonic and Super Tails, you will miss.

About Genocide city, this concept that shows what was Genocide City planned to be is totally false. Genocide City (later renamed as Cyber City) was planned to be a Future Version of Metropolis zone. It was intended to be a fully mechanical level. But why Genocide? It's because the language barriers faced by Sega of Japan. In Japan, there is a type of English, that has the same structure, but some words have different names which don't exist in UK's or US's English, or some words had different meanings.
