I can understand why at first the wedding plot line seems unnecessary or just an excuse to get Tom and Maddie out of the picture, but I really do think everyone who complained about it isn’t taking the GUN reveal into account here. The moment the reveal happens, the plot completely justifies itself. It’s not filler, it was leading to something.

There's an earnestness to Knuckles' personality that I've missed since the Dreamcast era. I'm glad it's been reinstated (as well as his backstory and integrity). And Idris Elba's performance was brilliant.

Yes, there are moments like Knuckles reading from a wall of text, and repeating “…”, but I say Knuckles is like Buzz Lightyear (pre-Toxic Disney), he’s a fish-out-of-water character, thereby having curiousity over things that are beyond his worldview; something I wish was handled a lot better after the Dreamcast died, which it didn’t.

Honestly seeing how good sonic 1 and 2 are, I can’t wait for how paramount take the series next, especially if there’s an entire universe, just imagine paramount setting up the main cast with there trilogy, then introducing these huge adventure style movies where all of the characters come together for a massive adventure, this could truly be the resurgence of good storytelling using the sonic IP
