Theory: Sonic is unconscious after defeating Robotnik and the Dark Emerald saved Sonic from falling to his death, and used a spell by itself to keep Sonic alive and unconscious, so he can heal to where it’s stable for him to move around after the fall. For the Savior ending that is.
