It's more the other way around. Ice cap zone is Hard Times without lyrics. I think Hard Times came first, it just wasn't released for a long time.

Anonymous Doggo 2019 hard times was completed in 1982 but wasn’t apparently released for another 26 until it was on an album called “The Complete Jetzons”, I might be wrong about all of this so 👌

There's a reason for that. The Ice Cap Zone music was written by Brad Buxer, keyboardist for The Jetzons. Hard Times was an unreleased track of the Jetzons until this release a decade ago.

This is why interpretation is important, and I can't remember is that was the official wording. if we go by multiple sources then he was involved but nowhere has confirmed how much work he did or what sort of work he did, a few things just say he discussed what songs he thought should go in (with other people of course) and gave his opinion on sound quality, that would make sense given one it has been said he didn't want his name on the credits as he thought the quality was not good enough, so in other words he may of been a form of advisor whilst others did the huge bulk of work.

Fue algo tremendo enterarme de esto. Resulta que esta canción era inédita de este grupo, y años más tarde, el tecladista del grupo (ex-tecladista, creo) colaboraba junto a Michael Jackson en la música de Sonic 3 y aportó la canción de la cual se hizo la versión instrumental que conocemos. Yep - it is indeed exactly the mashup I was looking for when I discovered the connection. It's well done (I'm aware it doesn't require that much skill, being that they are actually *explicitly* the same song, but that hasn't stopped people from failing anyway, before, on songs that should be trivial to combine for that same reason.) I think this song will still be viewed as a great song on it's own. Of coarse, people have realized that this sounds exactly like Ice Cap Zone. But there are a lot of people falling in love with it just because it such 80's goodness. Me included. Sure, of coarse there are a few people who see it as a Sonic song and nothing else. But I think it has also caused people to really appreciate 80's music. I think that the fact that this song was put in a Sonic game adds value to it. It is not often where songs are chosen to be re-worked to fit into a game.
