Glad to see you back! As far as the S3 samples for Knuckles' theme: That was apparently from a sample CD that Sega Japan often used for a lot of their games, ranging from Jet Set Radio to even Sonic CD! But yeah, it sounds so much like Michael!

The barrel was only an issue in carnival night zone for me because I had a busted control and my down button didn't work. It only clicked to me after I also got stuck on Death Egg zone on Sonic & Knuckles on a separate play

My favourite music from this game is Marble Garden Act 2, but I really like the way the aesthetic of Mushroom Hill Act 2 changes as you progress, making it look like changing seasons.

the point about the sub jumping all the way up to angel island is hilarious. i dont even remember that level transition from mania so seeing it and then seeing that itd have to jump like a thousand feet in the air is really funny oh, and seeing sandopolis get some love is real nice. i know people hate it but its one of my favourite zones too. the music and level gimmicks are banging if you ask me

The Worst thing about the Backbone Release for Xbox 360, is that the game is not available to purchase on Xbox One or Series X or even the Xbox Marketplace on internet, you have to buy it on Xbox 360, so you can downloaded on your Xbox One or Series X, Why they did that? That's just makes getting this games even more difficult :(

If I start to rant about how much this is absolutely the best game(s) in the series, Ill be here all day. Love to see every damn review of S3&Ks - what a perfect game. Like 99.3% perfect with Sandopolis and parts of Death Egg as the annoying parts lol And PRAISE the special stages. Just nerve-wracking enough but not impossible especially if you’ve played this game enough times. I mean shit Id rather play all 14 special stages of this game than 1 from Sonic 2. Sonic and Sonic 2 were the first games I ever played back when I was 3 years old. It way my mother's Genesis and she didn't really want me touching it, but when she was at work I occasionally tried to use it. She later bought Sonic 3 for my birthday when I turned 4 and Sonic & Knuckles about 6 months later when just going to a retro game store. We didn't even know that one existed. Even still, I never really though Sonic 3 or Sonic and Knuckles was nearly as good as Sonic 2. I thought Sonic 2 had better pacing with far less information overload. Not to mention I still found many of the songs in those two to be more bland than Sonic 2 making me not care as much to replay the stages. I've noticed with age that music really has always been when of the major influences on what games I like vs the ones I feel indifferent to. And I really don't find any of the songs in 3 or Knuckles nearly as catchy as Chemical Plant or Mystic Cave other than just Ice Cap Zone. Having a stage select was cool and all, but it had little impact to me. Mostly though I hated blue spheres. Even today being much better at games, I still suck at blue spheres even with the modded versions with true 3D models. I will always prefer the half pipe. It may take memory, but memory to me is still better than hoping I don't accidently double click.

@@ChaddyFantome You really think the level select map represents an area that big? I assumed the station square portion of the map is just the edge of a massive san fransisco sized city. Also red mountain from sa1 matches the aesthetic of pumpkin hill and sky rail quite closely. And judging by Knuckles' first cutscene we know that wild canyon and dry lagoon are definitely on Angel Island. That whole eastern portion of the map, if not a sizeable chunk of it, is Angel Island.
