After 30 years of going fast, it’s time for fans to celebrate the speediest hedgehog of all time! It’s an unbelievable birthday celebration for Sonic the Hedgehog with his first Classic Sonic special!
First, in “Seasons of Chaos” by longtime Sonic scribe Ian Flynn and artists Aaron Hammerstrom & Reggie Graham, Sonic goes on an adventure from pleasant spring valleys to wintry wonderlands in search of the Chaos Emeralds.

Not that I know the actual reason behind it, but I'd assume, while Metal Sonic and Knuckles were built for field missions and combat, Tails Doll was built for infiltration and information gathering, or something along those lines, with it's more innocent (and arguably creepy) appearance designed to make it less conspicuous.

This really feels like Classic Sonic Heroes. Team Sonic(already a thing) Team Rosie(Speed Type: Amy, Fly Type: Ray, Power Type: Mighty) Team Hooligan(Speed Type: Bean, Fly Type: Fang, Power Type: Bark) Team Metal: Metal Sonic, Tails Doll, Metal Knuckles. And this after the metal virus and power cores. Wonder what's with all the Heroes references in IDW I can imagine a story for each, though obviously it'd have to have more than four zones. Team Sonic: Collecting the Chaos Emeralds and finding Eggman Team Rosie: Helping collect the Chaos Emeralds, fights Heavy King Team Hooligan: Hired by Eggman to oppose Heavy King Team Metal: Controlled by Heavy King to get the Emeralds and make sure Eggman doesn't get in the way.

A lot of the love for Heroes I suspect comes from it being one of the coolest, most diverse, and most expansive examples of Sonic's world in a 3D context - it's a shame the game itself is pretty hit or miss, but thankfully there's a ton of fun content to utilize from it in other Sonic media
