Yeah, this had so much potential to be good. But the gameplay gets pretty stale and repetitive with the combat having no depth whatsoever, and the game is extremely buggy. (Patches came out, but they consume so much space) At least the writing is solid

The main four: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. The main villains: Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic (Fun fact: The reason why only these characters appear in certain Sonic media nowadays is because Mania has classic versions of those characters, and they are, of course,from the first four Sonic games (Sonic and Eggman debuted in Sonic 1, Tails debuted in Sonic 2, Amy and Metal Sonic debuted in Sonic CD, and Knuckles debuted in Sonic 3): These four games introduced the main four characters we know today.

I know the gameplay doesn’t perform well but to be honest, I like how there was something new to the table instead of the overused boost formula. I wish the Wii U hardware wasn’t so limited though. The game itself probably could have run better had the Wii U supported the Cry Engine they were using. And I don’t see enough people talk about the well-done animation. This is why this game has arguably the best models in the franchise imo because they’re a lot more expressive in this game than they are in the modern games whereas the models’ expressions in said modern games just feel lifeless. I was really hyped for this game when it was announced and it still makes me sad that it turned out bad because it had so much potential. Especially Sonic Synergy since it was the earlier version. I wish we had an open world Sonic game with some new stuff instead of using the same formula since Unleashed. And I really wish they’d put more effort into the gameplay and the animations and expressions too. Hopefully someday we’ll get a Sonic game like that.

i wouldn't say its weird at all, you can still like things that others dont, its not illegal to like something. the only time i really find it bothersome is when people bring up valid criticism and its always canceled out with "BUT I THOUGHT THE GAME WAY OKAY". I also think its fully possible to make a game so good that more people don't hate on the series and the people that genuinely like modern sonic games can still enjoy them and i'm not sure Boom really fits that mold. I've played Sonic games since the 90's but i also like some of the newer games, so i wouldn't say all of them are bad "just" because they are new BUT i do think there's a special spark that's missing from the games that could benefit "anyone" that likes these games if SEGA makes even better games.

The map is so big and I easily get lost. But it is a good game 🎮. I love the design and power of the characters. Lyric is the easiest boss but the big egg mech is the hardest one in the entire game 🎮. I died so many times fighting egg mech.
