Thanks to Apple and Sega Hardlight we got honestly the best sonic mobile game ever! It looks so good and it also brings the boost again and I'm still very excited to play this this Christmas. Thank you Sam for all the awesome videos! Can't wait for the next one! 😁

Merry Christmas Sam. Overall this game I haven’t played it as of yet but from what I’ve seen it looks great! I’m glad that Cream is finally back in a game cause it’s been way too long. I’m sure this game will be re release on consoles at some point because the mobile versions of sonic 1 and 2 got released in origins even though those aren’t full ports they have elements included in that.

I am very mixed on this game because the level aesthetic just looks funny and I would of preferred it to look more realistic. I do like that the game is designed with a Sonic skill set in mind and has very strong physics. It is really fun to play the game.

Sonic felt actually fun to control….fully 3D….and somehow mixed adventure and boost level feels?….but limited to only the IPhone. somehow this feels like a feat only the Sonic franchise could pull off Now it only we could fix some of the voice cast

This was a pretty fun game in all honesty, and my biggest wish is that it was available on other platforms. However, I do kinda feel like its praises are getting slightly overblown just a bit simply because it is a mobile game that is this good. Like, I’ve seen some people say that this game, the way it is now mind you, is better than anything Sonic Team has put out in OVER a decade, which…I just can’t agree with. Imagine if this were the game we waited 5 years for instead of Frontiers. Like, it’s shorter than Forces, there’s not a whole lot to it in terms of content, and I just don’t think it would have been received as well in my honest opinion. Regardless, I do love this game. It is a pretty fun time, and I gotta give the level designers props because I want to see this kind of level design be integrated into the open zone format. More ramps and hills and such would be much appreciated. The aesthetics in this game are especially great, and is also something I desperately want to see more of in the future. It’s just so colorful and creative, and brings me back to the fantastical feeling that Heroes’s level aesthetics always brought to me whenever I was a kid. I do love it a lot. However, I gotta be honest, I still prefer the way Frontiers controls. Sonic is so maneuverable in that game and just in general feels great to control. They found a way to make Sonic not feel too slippery or tanky when going fast, and I really love it a lot. While Dream Team definitely isn’t terrible to control it definitely does feel a lot more stiff to me comparatively. Also, one thing I don’t quite like as much about Dream Team is that there’s not a lot of freedom in your movement. For instance, there were so many times where I missed something and I wanted to try and rail launch or even just go back on a rail at some point in the level by habit because I got used to being able to do so in Frontiers. But I couldn’t do it because the game had the rail movement scripted and there wasn’t much you could do to change the way you were going. Frontiers, while I will admit didn’t do everything perfectly, did give you so much freedom in your movement, providing you with a whole arsenal of moves that you can use to your benefit. Alongside that, there were more ways to take advantage of the level design in that game to make traversal a lot more fun, such as rail launching and using the Spin Dash to go flying through the island. It’s something I definitely missed in this experience. Overall, Sonic Dream Team is certainly a ton of fun, and I want to see more of what it does right be implemented into the next 3D mainline Sonic game! However, I do think there are still some problems that it has that keep me from liking it more than I already do. If we could get a mix of the creative aesthetics and level design cues of this game, with the high levels of detail and overall openness and freedom of Frontiers, I think we’d have the ultimate 3D Sonic game on our hands! (Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to share some of my thoughts a bit more in depth).

I was never really a fan of the photo realistic aesthetic of some of the past Sonic games like Sonic 06 or Sonic Frontiers actually. It just never made sense to me given Sonic's abstract and colorful art style from the Genesis games and even the early 3D titles. The only time realism made sense to me in a Sonic game was Sonic Unleashed, and they didn't even try to be photo realistic, they just made the art style of the game closer to Pixar or DreamWorks. Also, the humans in Sonic Unleashed are modeled after Eggman's design, and not the other way around like Sonic 06.

Actually michel van de bos made the final boss theme, one of the developers at hardlight said this in an interview, only song tee made was the opening theme.

Honestly, from what I've seen, my main gripes are the voice direction for Rouge and kind of Cream (just needs a little more, probably just go back to the Generations voice and it's good on my end) and the fact that Tails did not get a playable role in the final boss. I thought that when he picked up Sonic, you'd play an intense scene of Tails trying to get Sonic closer, but he didn't. Hopefully he does something a bit more impactful next game, since I love the character and I want to see him do great things, but I guess this wasn't the game for that. Also, glad that you mentioned that it would be nice if *CyberSpace* looked like these levels, since I've been hearing people say they wished Frontiers in general looked like it, but I definitely think it would've made the overworld's melancholy piano feel a bit weird if Sonic was just chilling on a beach. I hope this game continues getting updates (unlike another solid game on modern devices, specifically consoles) to keep the game fresh and a port to consoles is something I'd want, but they'd either have to lengthen the game or cut the price down from Frontiers and Superstars to like, 10-20 dollars. It also might take a while, so hype might already be building for the next Sonic game and ends up overshadowing a console release. Nonetheless, I'll still be excited to try this game out if I can!

I wanna play this game, it look so beautiful and vibrant. It's awesome to see the traditional sonic style come back in a long time. It's not perfect, but it is truly a way past cool dream! (If only it wasnt apple exclusive)

I won't worry about the exclusivity. Lots of Apple Arcade games have gone multiplatform post-release; _Shantae and the Seven Sirens_ for example. Anyway, now that Sega's mobile division has made a full Sonic game, I wouldn't mind seeing other spinoff devs have a go at a bigger game. Sumo Digital Sonic game, anyone?

I still have yet to play this game, if I ever do get to playing this… sucks it’s Exclusive to apple. Apart from that yeah, it looks real fun and the animations are amazing. Be nice to see shorter games to be more polished and all. Also yeah knuckles glide and rouge voice acting sucks… overall definitely some great stuff here. Also that opening animation is incredible. 💙

One thing you mentioned multiple times I just want to add it’s not really the realism that bothers me with Sonic. It’s like the lack of a healthy mix between cartoon and reality. Games like SA2 and 1 went crazy with taking real world locals and just “sonicfying them” I wish Frontiers did stuff like that. and Unleashed too does a good job at this although it doesn’t quite get as whacky and silly, it’s great for what it’s going for. I wouldn’t mind games alternating between the art style philosophies of the Adventure Games, Heroes, and Unleashed

7:18 so you want a glide that breaks traditional sonic level design in half? like it or not, this is a necessary evil. the reason why the adventure games made knuckles and rogue levels treasure hunting level is with a glide identical to the glide in 3k, the levels would be so easy to cheese, it makes frontiers spindash look underpowered. same with the limited climbing. no excuse for the turn radius, tho.

i played this game with a PS4 controller, and I found the power-character's gliding pretty smooth. Must just be a touch-screen issue. But yeah, for anyone with bluetooth on their Apple device, just use a controller. The game was made for it. Also, correction. This game isn't a mobile game exclusively. It's just locked to Apple devices. The complaints about the graphics seem very specific for the mobile version, because on iPad, iMac and Apple TV, it looks and performs great. The game definitely needs to come to PC and consoles, but if you don't like the mobile graphics, don't play it on mobile if you've got other options. It's simple.

I’m glad you guys are loving it, but for me, this was the most miserable sonic experience I’ve had all year and I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe I just let my negative feelings for the community bleed into my playthrough or maybe the sever technical issues I’ve been having on my iPad are to blame, but either way, I wish I could like it more.

I’ve had extremely poor frame rate issues, touch controls are the worst thing ever for a sonic game, the music was mostly forgettable for me, and the backtracking is very annoying (although tbf, it’s still better than Unleashed HD). I understand that the touch controls can be substituted for a controller, but I ain’t got the money for a controller in addition to the Apple Arcade subscription I had to pay for just to play this game@@kaosagamerreal

It’s okay in my opinion. I think the levels are good but they’re too short, but the rails are a bit automated, but my problems are the controls. The characters jump can over shoot platforms, turning is stiff, Tails & Creams characters flights are too short, and Knuckles & Rouge’s glides are terrible as the turning is worse and they descent too much, and it’s terrible since there’s two blue coins in an Earlier acts of the first zone near the end of the level are hard to reach because of it, and yee I worded it like that.

Amy doesn't seem to have any cool unique hammer moves in this game, which is a shame. Especially because she uses it in the animated intro. Guess it's just for show in the gameplay and nothing else.

Okay, this bugs me. Where did you get this whole "most recent Sonic games are based in reality" idea from? Before Frontiers, the most realism based mainline Sonic game would be Unleashed. Colors was a whimsical theme park. Generations made it varied by it's very nature. Lost World sure as heck ain't realism rooted. And Forces, while gritty, still had a casino jungle. This makes the most recent chain of games to be strictly realism focused Frontiers and Frontiers alone. Also, early 3d Sonic would be the Adventure games. Heroes came after those and they started the realism string.
