Knuckles' death is actually kind of hilarious. After spending a lot of time platforming, avoiding spike traps and most importantly, running away from Sonic, he ended up dying to some unlabeled green button.

While not "very soon", I do know Spirits of Hell is continuing thanks to Sonic Gaming Hub and their team! First up is a remake of Round 1 called "Recoded", then I suppose Round 2 will get similar treatment. Afterwards, that cancelled Prophecy DLC will be next on the chopping block and finally, the story can end with Round 3! I don't know much besides that, but the Spirits of Hell games still remain my favorite Sonic.exe games!

@@hoakcast It's been confirmed that while Dan did cancel Spirits of Hell, he gave some other developers (Sonic Gaming Hub if I remember correctly) permission to remake the first two Rounds, continue the unfinished Prophecy DLC, and make Round 3 to finally conclude the series.

Y'know, even if Spirits of Hell is not one of the .exes I really like, I gotta admit that the voice actors for this one are not half bad at all. Knuckles is an exception as I feel his voice differs too much from how we heard Knuckles most of the time and sounds bland, but for an indie game, they got some good voice actors who can do voices that sound quite natural.
