When I downloaded the game, I very much took into consideration which version would look better graphically. But I also knew I wanted to be able to play this game on the go as I’m not home much. I’m very glad I got it on switch because despite the slight drop in graphics and textures, the game still runs very smooth, load times aren’t that bad, cutscenes still look pretty good. Overall really satisfied with the switch version so far.

Typical SEGA. They did it with the Yakuza series too. Yakuza 0 runs on my potato PC with poop graphics, but despite that it still looks really good with a solid framerate!

Been playing a few hours on the Switch and I have zero major complaints so far. I will say the overall game looks a little lackluster in some cutscenes but whatever, it’s keeping me engaged and I’m having fun. This is the best Sonic game since SA2 for me.

I'm genuinely impressed at how well Sega made Frontiers run on Switch, I was honestly expecting them to half-arse and make it a cloud port, but no they made it work brilliantly

The biggest differences between these two versions: 1. Less foilage on Switch and less shadows in some spots; also worse texture quality. 2. Sonic is actually lower poly on Switch, though it isn't too noticeable except around the snout and the top of his arms. 3. Lower resolution and framerate on Switch.

Dang, Iizuka really wasn't lying when he said the Switch version would be pretty comparable to other platforms. Like, yeah the framerate's lower and there's an obvious lack of grass and foliage in the open zone which is the roughest-looking part, but beyond that I don't really see much that bothers me. The cyberspace stages in particular impress me, they look almost indistinguishable between the two versions.

It's crazy how much pop-in there is even on PS5. Biggest difference is smoothness 30 vs 60 fps and clarity. But the scene composition and complexity are very close on both versions. On the open world the biggest difference is the trees and grass.

You think those god awful grass models and textures look anywhere close to ratchet and clank rift apart? No. It looks like a late life ps3 game. Just with higher resolution and framerate. That’s it. The actual gradually fidelity is garbage.

I don’t understand why they didn’t use low poly assets in the distance, especially on nextgen. It should be low poly LOD that becomes full model the closer you get so pop in’s less jarring.

The fact this is running on the Switch at 30 frames per second and looks comparable to the PS5 version is a true crowning achievement for the programmers. It's obvious and expected for it to run better on the PS5 with all that horsepower under the hood. I have both the Switch and the PS5 and I still bought it for the Switch given the fact that it's portable and I can take it anywhere! No regrets. Sure, I'm missing a few things here and there, but hey, I am not complaining!

I personally am never buying a game that isn't at a minimum 60 fps. I played kirby and the forgotten land and it was so choppy, it was uncomfortable to look at at times. 60 fps should be the goal for any console since 30 fps is just headache inducing

I bought the Switch version of this game for my son for Christmas. I should've done my research first, because we put it in and both thought it looked and ran awful. I thought something in the graphic settings or my tv was messed up, so I started researching why it looked so bad and pixelated. That's how I stumbled across this video. Went to the playstation store and ordered the PS5 digital version for him instead. The difference is night and day. 1000 times better on PS5.

This is surprisingly well-optimized for a semi-open world game on the Switch. Yes, textures are lower (the downgrade in res helps cover that, though) and there's less foliage. Also, an understandable cap of 30 fps vs 60 on PS5 performance mode. That sounds like a lot, but the core experience looks to be retained without hard-hitting sacrifices. I'm impressed, Sonic Team.

When you take in the consideration of how different the systems are.... You can see they still did a very good job on the Switch version The switch: 4 core ARM CPU @ 1.02GHz (3 cores usable apparently) 4GB LPDDR4 ram 64bit, nvidia Maxwell 2.0 with 256 shading cores the PS5: 8 core x86-64 CPU @3.5 GHz SMT, 16GB GDDR6 SDRAM; 256-bit (unified), AMD RDNA 2.0 with 2304 (out of 2560 SMs) enabled. of course the system storage plays in, but the PS5s is faster. The switch is old, but is also a hybrid system focusing on making the docked and handheld parts of the system equal (plus consoles like these are hard to develop, so of course there wasn't gonna be a new one yet) So its great to see Sega pitch in the effort to make a game like this work on Switch. Hopefully someday in 2023, or in 2024, we'll see some semblance of those graphics in the PS5 version on a new, more powerful future switch model. but for now this is all great.

It would have improved textures (or at least better than the time a cliff had pixels the size of Link's head), lighting similar to the 2016 presentation (not the downgraded version we got), draw distance would have been far improved such as trees wouldn't become 2D at like 50 meters from the player and mountainous terrain would look actually rocky, not flat. BOTW is imo the GOAT, but it has major technological shortcomings.

I love the portability of the Nintendo Switch but Sonic games just flow so much better at 60fps. That is why I normally play my Sonic games on PC, Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. (Sorry I don't have PS5 and probably won't have a PS5 until the PS5 Pro comes out.

Incredible. The second PS5/Switch comparison video I’ve seen from GameExplain that convinced me to buy the Switch version. This is how most multiplatform games should be done…720p 30fps target on Switch and enhanced to 4K 60fps on PS5 / Series X. Keep this up, Switch games are still going to outsell the competition’s platforms for at least the next 18 months.

I love the aesthetic choices with cyberspace between consoles. While the PS5 renders laser visuals, the Switch renders like a hologram. Both are great visual choices.

Thank you for that. Ps5 showed incredible texture in grass and rocks, and frame rates excellent. While switch has low res graphic, and slow frame rate. However, for those really into to go playing time, it wouldn't matter

Pleasantly surprised by the comparison shots here. If a game like this can run on Switch, on what is effectively five year old portable hardware, then it shows developers can compress and code efficiently when they want to.

There are few differences from a generation to another. I really miss the times when a new console has absurdly more advanced graphic capacity than the past generation. So It won't make any difference if I buy the PS4 or the PS5 version of the game.

Very little grass on the Switch version, and different colors even. Sonic's model also looks worse, but the game surprisingly runs well. They did their best. I wish they can patch it in all its versions to reduce that annoying pop-in.

If colors ult and superstars on switch are to go by stick to the console or steam version since if you down the line get a steam deck you can play the pc version on the go with little to no comprmise

The game was created to fit the switch capabilities and no the other way around. It was like pouring porting the game from the switch to ps5.
