Sonic Frontiers is a Great Game Held Back by the Past

You dont need to search that hard for Sonic Heroes enjoyers, theres a lot of them out there, although they are probably one of the smallest groups compared to other games

I picked it up day 1 for xbox series x. I need to get back into playing it. I got confused, didn't know what I was doing and put it down for a while.

It is not held back by the past! Sonic Frontiers is the best game of the last 10 years. I loved every second of it.

IMO Sonic Frontiers is a really good game, and my third-favorite Sonic game of all time right behind Sonic Lost World and Sonic Chronicles. I especially loved the last island, the true final boss and the third and fourth Titans. One thing, though: I'm kind of tired of people comparing it to BOTW, TOTK or the like. Sonic Frontiers is NOT an open-world game. It's a 3D platformer with 5 *levels* and a variety of smaller bonus rounds you can access in the levels. Yeah, the levels are huge open playgrounds, but they're still levels, you still do a level-by-level progression. I don't consider it a Boost formula game either. It has elements from the Boost games, but the boost itself is no longer the focus, and it mixes it up with its own unique elements, and even stuff from Lost World and Mania. Eh, just a little gripe I have with reviews of this game, just that. I personally think Sonic Frontiers is a unique game that can't be compared with anything else really, but it would make more sense to me to compare it to Banjo-Kazooie than to Elden Ring.

girl I enjoy sonic heroes it's one of my favorite games of all time and it MIGHT be childhood bias but i just love that game, especially when it's the gamecube version, which is not broken at all. ...maybe a teeny tiny bit but... it holds up on a technical level compared to the ps2 one lmao, i once completed it 100% in like, three days?... that's how much mentally ill i am.

Ngl, I'm glad that they reused green hill and chemical plant etc for the cyberspace. Not cuz I wanna see these levels again, I'm sick of them too, but reusing the assets for cyberspace let them focus more on the open world.

I really didn’t like this game. But jm glad I watched your video! Good stuff! The nostalgia pandering really is an issue. Forces was a nostalgia overload and this game likes to pretend it’s nostalgia moments are subtle and meaningful but i find 16bit flashbacks and name dropping dark gaia just as jarring as watching every bad guy from every game punch sonic in the nose. Also sonic heroes slaps 🎉
