Never REALLY played a Sonic game to completion prior to playing Sonic Frontiers, but I do remember some notes that stuck with me on this game -Playing Sonic Adventure 2 after Frontiers made realize how smooth and intuitive the PC controls are for this game -Sonic doesn't really have to stop at any time, the slide which is unlocked by the start of the game can destroy crates making island exploration faster rather than punching or stomping in place. -Unlocking Spindash also unlocks rolling animations for respective characters **Glorious tumbleweed** + Enables Tf2 Source Jank physics to have fun with... -I really wish the combat could allow for a little bit more "less accident prone" move execution like holding Ctrl triggering a "Loop Kick" or the classic "********* I triggered Homing Shot again", otherwise, there's a lot of good fun with it -Someone on Sonic Team stated "They would like to make an Sonic RPG", well.... That could work. Sonic games are no stranger to having multiple characters. >A Sonic game where the core component would be a selectable party keeping the momentum between platforming through obstacles and styling on the enemies with variety of character dynamics/combos is good premise... I think I'm so impressed by Sonic Frontiers for the same reason I'm impressed by my favorite game, Sonic Adventure 2. Despite having several things going against it, Frontiers ended up a game with no small amount of fans who like or love it despite any other issues, and I find that more compelling an argument in it's favor than anything else to say it's good.

I'm still somewhat confused about the teasers and game. In the teaser, Sonic, without hesitation, was about to assault a digital ghost child. In the game: "Oh hey, lemme help even though you tried to vaporize me a dozen times." Also, dear *God* this style of gameplay I hoped Forces would've been. It's a world wide event, which could've had the opportunity to actually revisit old places and stuff from previous games. And I actually like the deeper, serious tone in Sonic's voice. Craig trying to capture the high pitched voice from Griffith felt jarring, and hearing his deeper tone sent shivers down my spine. My genuine reaction was "Wait- Is that still Craig?" Also agree; the sonic crew needs new character models. And if I could, I'd definitely add proper animations when talking to characters on the side And honestly Update 3 should've redone Rhea island. Sonic stays in Digi-Limbo while his friends, in physical forms, find the emeralds, find the portal Knuckles came to the islands from to reach the sanctuary, power the emeralds up to 11 and bring Sonic back with the power + corrupted power.

I pretty much agree with everything in this comment and it's made me somewhat realize I may've sounded a bit too harsh on Roger's performance here. Since I actually find Rogers Sonic the best he's ever been in Frontiers (except for maybe Boom) however, the weirdly spoken lines and constantly swapping between his normal Sonic voice and his frontiers one leads to a messy performance

I’m personally a fan of Flyn’s writing in at least one major way: he’s good at taking inconsistent characterization and writing and condensing it down to consistent characters. He did this with the Archie comics and he did it in Frontiers. Now, whether you LIKE the end result is up to each individual, and it seems you’re not a fan of some of his choices. That’s absolutely fine. But taking the entire cannon and not trying to pretend they don’t exist but instead acknowledging and fitting them into a cohesive characterization was not something I thought possible. That being said, I’m not 100% a fan of the new direction. It feels like Flyn is writing them as the same characters as the comics and they just can’t be. All in all this game has some really low points (I can’t tell you how disappointed I was on the first open world 2D section) but some incredible highs (the first three titans). I’ve seen people say “it’s the most 7/10 sonic game ever” and I have to agree.

I want to voice a complaint that I haven't seen a single KZbinr make in their reviews and discussions. If anyone happened to play the game in Japanese and English, and compared the scene where sonic gets shot at supreme will see that the lip flaps aren't synced and Roger's delivery is so weak in comparison. Overall I really hope the eng cast can step up their game in the next entry.

Frontiers is many things. It's an awkward game in places, lot's of bits of jank throughout the experience, odd glitches, clear growing pains of a developer trying to spread their wings for the first time in a while. It's far from a perfect game, mast assuredly. Despite this, the year this game released I had more fun with it than anything else I played that year, more fun with a new sonic game than I'd had in over a decade. I was utterly enthralled with this game on release, I played through it twice on release month. To illustrate why that matters most games I don't play more than once ever. It has it's flaws, even as... especially as someone who loves this game I can see that... but for the first time in ages I'm actually excited about the future of Sonic.

58:41 i cant believe you didnt talk about his signature move, "tax evasion " a move where you can fly. Also the 1:01:00 glad they changed it , i played it last month and managed to muscle memory it . Wish they telegraphed the attacks more.

@@BoostBracelet yah for the second boss for example, inorder to parry the swing it does after you deflect a missile you got to parry when the arm swing is in the middle of the screen to hit it. Not when it's nearer to sonic cause if you do that you get knocked back making you do it all over again, also don't get me started on the tail swing you can never time that move constantly to save your life.

Thanks for this! Love this game, it’s great! The most passion in a Sonic game we’ve had in the last 10 years! Love the aesthetic and the concept of playing with an AI character! I don’t find it janky nor boring, I think the gameplay is engaging enough with lots of challenge that make use of Sonic’s moveset! Have they fixed the pop-in yet?

I wanna say even if Eggman didn’t do much, I wish they had shown him landing his ships and flashing back to exploring the island in the original before the update that way they could show more of sage and him growing and not just flash back to them in the road realm or whatever it was I say this cause like MAN him considering Sage as his daughter is so interesting! Especially if it references to Maria because I’m curious if generations is going to push that idea further in the new generations game coming up! Also knuckles, tails, and Amy are no where to be found in the trailers which pushes their arcs further too??

I do think they'll expand on Eggman & Sage's dynamic in future games (Even though the IDW comics are right there) but you've got me wondering if they'll show off more of Maria as a character whether in the game or prologue animations because usually they just say stuff like "She's nice" and leave it at that
