JPN The End: humble and gracious in defeat, and would shake your hand while saying, "good games." ENG The End: overly arrogant, thinking its better than what it actually is, only to throw a tantrum when it starts losing before storming off in the huff, like a sore loser. This version does a whole lot of talking, even more so than the English version, and despite its choice of words and seeming to present itself as some kind of natural order that sits above all, I wasn't nearly as impressed with this version of the dialogue, which comes off as a bit uninspired and runoff-ish when compared to the English dub that had lines like "My captors bent time and space. My captors created a whole reality to imprison me. My captors burned the souls away to fuel their engines". The End's English incarnation, a spiteful and malevolent being, seems to have been heavily inspired by System Shock's SHODAN, a megalomaniacal AI that believes itself to be a god. Even down to the story bits where it uses Sonic to assist in it's own plans without revealing its true nature until later. Pretty neat imo

Hmm... it has the same implications as the Western version, albeit the ending is peculiar. The Western version embraces entropy as an inevitable and thus recognizes it will return, this version expresses the same nihilism but almost changes its mind at the end. I like the eruditeness of the Japanese dialogue more, but the Western version does a better job of establishing itself as the finality of the cosmos without a superior being influencing beyond the laws of physics-inevitable peak entropy and heat death.

For the English one as well, for all I've seen some people liken it to being the cold indifference of the universe, but for something that's supposed to be indifferent, its a very sore loser the way it whinges about I am inevitable. I cannot be denied. You strike this incarnation with all your might. It changes nothing. You are not brave. You are not victorious. Those last lines gave me chills. Absolutely terrifying to think that The End IS WARNING US - the players/characters who just defeated the concept of Death that something else is coming. I thought the English version warned of it's own return, but now I'm thinking we misunderstood it when it said "The End comes for you all." Given how many times Solaris/Iblis/Mephiles has been illuded to have some sort of lingering presence, I think we're in for the long haul... F U N I S I N F I N I T E

The coming it’s referring is life in the universe without it reducing everything it can to nothingness which it sees as the only way to impose order, in its final moments it seems to accept that the universe is about evolution rather than its cycle of nothingness, evolution is a theme in the story as shown explicitly with Sage’s arc and alluded to with the fate of the ancients. The one character I can see coming back from whatever happens is Sage becoming some sort of life counterpart/replacement of The End’s death which is hinted at when she appears to fully assume her blue form before destroying it.

It's the nihilist view of Sonic's philosophy. Remember in the Black Knight, Sonic is okay with the world ending because every world has it's end. Alot of the Japanese dialogue seemed better than the English version. See Knuckles and him having his talk with Sonic about being the last of his kind JPN "I am going to find the origins of my tribe!" ENG "I envy Sonic's lifestyle. I think should be more like him, and travel more! (not that I don't already do that already, but don't think about that bit too much!)" And the less said about Ian Flynn turning Amy into Mr. Burns when he's doped up on painkillers the better, when she's expressing a desire to spread the love wherever she goes (even though she was already doing that before, as seen with Gamma!) But yes, let's all give it up for Ian Flynn, the savior of Sonic!

- English: The unstoppable inevitability of cosmic time and heat death - Japanese: A theist, religious emphasis on judgement by a higher power To me, Japanese is not nearly as terrifying, but I wonder if it's culturally analogous. Hell and punishment is not nearly as terrifying as the inevitability of the cold, dark, uncaring void of infinite nothingness and Deep Time. Universal Entropy scientifically cannot be stopped or reversed.

This is so different from the english version. An eldrich incarnation, not a physical being, but a consience existing to only put things to rest, makes it feel less evil, more like a force of reality itself, warning the player to stop resisting or else something worse will come, an inbalance. I especially wish they dubbed that last part, that even a force of reality, the end of existence itself can underestimate the will to live, makes The End feel like an actual character.
@antoniobrice
@antoniobrice Жыл бұрын
Comparing the two, this seems... separate yet the same. They said that its form is what we think THE END looks like. If that is so, could It be incorrect that its voice and what it's saying is also what we believe is being said? The English version sounds like something would be expected from Sonic's perspective. It is an entity full of itself and sees other life forms as valueless. Something that relishes in the death and destruction of all things. The Japanese version seems to fit Sage. It is an entity that is doing what it thinks is best. A being of incredible power that is only trying to protect life, or in this case the universe. This could possibly be the most logical thing THE END can do with its power.

I actually drew up my own design of what Sonic might have seen The End as. I drew a colossal figure with a pseudo face of crow with an armor-like body. Followed by it having the base of wings and the feathers connected by small crystals and tethered by laser-like stems. The feathers themselves being comprised of this purple violet ethereal energy. In a way, I feel like I made a good design. The End is “the embodiment of death” so to speak. I figured a crow to be a good representation of that idea. And how within its flight across reality itself, we are all within its grasp. But Sonic being the shining light that pierces that darkness and gives us a dream and light for a tomorrow.

If Sonic Chronicles was still canon, The end could easily be Argus himself, and the Ancestors could easily be the Precursors (of which Nestor spoke), that Argus (The end) has destroyed many planets (that according to his words, but these would escape thanks to the Chaos Emeralds, they would arrive to the earth attracted by the Master Emerald, after acquiring it, at some point they would discover thanks to the emerald the Twilight Space, which would be unsuspected and uninhabited, for which the Precursors (Ancients) would not take importance, years later (after creating the Cyber Space) Argus (The end) would discover that they escaped from its destruction and would go to earth, the Precursors (Ancients) would notice this, for which they create the Titans, but in case the Titans fail to destroy him, they will use the Emeralds with the Master Emerald to open the portal to the Twilight Space and lock Argus (The end) there, which they will finally do, Argus would try to avoid being trapped, but he would not succeed, but he would take an octopus form and would catch one of the Starfall Islands (where all the Precursors are, the island he would take would have qualities of the other 4 starfall islands) pulling it from the earth and taking it with him to the Twilight Space, although the Precursors (Ancients) were trapped with it, they feel satisfied that it will no longer be able to do harm or that is what they believed, since with the passing of the years, Argus (The end) would manage to bend the Twilight to his will and with the little of his powers, He would see the races outside the cage that unbalance the order of the universe, he would open portals (he could not use them to escape but he could use them to take out his tentacles), before bringing a powerful race (Kron, Zoah, N'rrgal and Voxai), he tells them from their minds his name (Argus) (using his male voice) and would bring them by trapping them in the Twilight, the Precursors (Ancients) would write down his writings and would realize what Argus' goal is (The end), to maintain the order of the universe, before the arrival of the Nocturnus, the Precursors (Ancients) would disappear completely, leaving only their Colony and their writings (scattered around the Twilight), during the events of Chronicles, Argus (The end) would do nothing, but I think he would observe everything that happens inside the Twilight, at the beginning he wouldn't see much of Sonic and his friends, but after seeing them unite all the races (including defected echidnas), he would begin to see them with other eyes, he would also witness the final battle of Super Sonic and Super Ix, after the victory of the first one, Argus (The end) would see Sonic as the being with the potential to take him out of the Twilight, Argus (The end) would not try to prevent Sonic and his friends from taking out all the races and their colonies (with the exception of the remaining Nocturnus and the Nocturne), because for him to escape, he will wait for Sonic and his friends to go to the right place to take advantage of him (the Starfall islands) (implying that Sonic, his friends and the other races didn't escape from Argus, rather he let them go). And during his speech he would have said, I hereby seal this planet in the Twilight Space forever.

I'm actually blown away by how well this fits!! It ties Shade and Chaos together quite nicely, since Chaos is basically a descendant of The Ancients (Precursors?). Tikal of course is basically Chaos's best friend, so it ties her to Shade as well, in a sense; I always had a theory/headcanon of sorts that Shade was secretly a friend to both of them during the period of time that Tikal's flashbacks in Sonic Adventure take place, and would meet them at The Master Emerald altar with the chao. (6-paragraph long ramble about SA1 lore below lmao) ------------------------ I also think the reason Tikal didn't ask Shade to ask Ix for help was because she knew reasoning with him about the issue would be just as difficult as reasoning with Pachacamac, if not perhaps even more dangerous; The Nocturnus Clan basically had very similar leadership to The Knuckles Clan, except that Ix is more like the "brains" over Pachamac's "brawn" in a sense, hence The Nocturnus Clan having more advanced technology than The Knuckles Clan (but not quite as advanced as The Ancients' technology). So, basically, Tikal knew she had a much better chance of protecting the chao and their home by keeping the Nocturnus at large in the dark about it all; they can't search for and obtain/control something they don't know exists in the first place, after all. Tikal also seemed confident she could stop her clan, since not only did their lack of machinery mean it would take more time for them to seize control of the altar (thus giving Chaos time to fight back and protect the chao & Tikal, which of course is exactly what ultimately happened)... ...But also because of the unfortunate circumstance being that, ultimately, Tikal was, at the time, a 14 year old girl who was kind of like the equivalent of a Princess within her region, and unlike herself, her father was cold-hearted, selfish and cruel. Being as young and loving as she always was, she wanted to give her relative as much benefit of the doubt as possible, and it's clear she also imparted to him the wisdom of her late grandmother (whom of which is clearly implied to be the one that actually raised her, let's be real here. That's why I think she only passed away, like, less than a year before Tikal met accidental-time-traveller-Tails & told him about her). Unfortunately, Tikal would come to see that Pachacamac and his equally as braindead goonies would never "get it", or in other words, it's the point of realization an abuse victim can come to at a certain point, seeing that there never was any "misunderstanding" or "redemption" for the aggressor, and that them being "family" doesn't excuse anything, because, biological relation or not, true family would never treat you like that. That's why her character arc with Chaos by the end of the game is so touching; she finally finds Sonic & Knuckles, leaders who are actually tactful and respectful, while also still telling you things you may not want to hear but still need to hear, but they do it in a kind and helpful way, and they don't give up on you. Not to mention the parallel between Sonic's friends and the rest of the Knuckles Clan echidnas who opposed Pachacamac and stayed behind the night he raided the emerald shrine (a couple of them being two of Knuckles' ancestors, of course). While I certainly wouldn't describe Eggman as being that sort of cold-hearted (evil as he is as one could say, he does still take genuine care of the chao and also did save Shadow's life for no reason other than actually being worried about him. And also because of genuinely caring about Maria just as much as Shadow always has, and thus wanting to save her loved one, because a true friend of your true friend is basically also your friend in a sense), I do still want to point out the parallel between Tikal's relationship with Pacahamac and Gamma's relationship with Eggman, as well as how Gamma's relationship with Amy is a clear parallel to Chaos's relationship with Tikal (and the chao of course mirroring the flickies). ------------------------ Chronicles, Adventure 2, Battle, Advance 3, Shadow 2005, Frontiers, all of them have such incredible tie-ins to the lore regarding the ancient historical societies of Sonic's world. Hell, you could even probably put Mania & Forces in there, due to the theory that The Phantom Ruby was created by The Ancients for the purpose of taking out The End, but unfortunately the technological advancements necessary to make it work as intended just weren't there yet & so they never quite finished it as such (though I guess you could say Eggman & Infinite both sort of more or less completed the work The Ancients started with the ruby, crazily enough). The Phantom Ruby Ancients theory was recently posted to Tumblr in the search for the tag "#the chaos emeralds" btw. A big piece of evidence for it is how all the enemy robots look in Frontiers; the red glitch-type abilities surrounding them (and thus around Sage since Eggman was largely inspired by them when creating her basically), and also the dark red triangular symbols on the chests of many of the normal "pawn" type robots (notice how similar it is to Infinite's ruby on his chest).

They have a somewhat similar voice to E-102 Gamma.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences in the eng and jap narrative, but I think the male voice of The End represents its physical half that was sealed in outer space, while the female voice represents its spiritual half that was sealed in Cyberspace. Hence the line where the male voice alone says "O half-body (of mine) bound to this land... my presence is beyond the azure skies" once the towers sealing Cyberspace have been disabled. During most of the final battle the two halves speak in perfect unison, but eventually it seems like they start to fall out of synch. Then, near The End's defeat, the spiritual body - which has been closely observing Sonic throughout the entire game - appears to have some kind of epiphany.

Do you think it’s possible to combine both the Japanese and English speeches?🤔 28.3.23

Look, they are not contradictory, in fact, they even complement each other a little, the only difference is the question of The End's personality While the English version, The End seems to do everything of his own free will and has a high ego In the Japanese version, he seems to be just doing what he thinks should be done, as if he were a force of nature that has existed forever and only has the duty to balance the order of the universe regarding the Chaos of Life

@@PauloH100They are compatible if you make the assumption that both versions think that order can only be achieved within the present system by exhausting all potential for entropy to be added to a system. Then the personalities become unified under the pretense that the only order that can exist is one where no particle can ever be united again-heat death of the cosmos-such that life itself is but a temporal quality that should be done away with in favor of expediting the inevitable. The ending is the only irreconcilable part, given that the Western asserts its inevitability whereas the Japanese has a profound realization. It could be implied the Western has this as does the Japanese, but both retain their respective philosophy of the finality of all things temporal.

In a way, it does represent the Antithesis to the Power of Chaos we are familiar with in the Sonic Franchise The End represents Order, an aspect that is the complete inverse of Chaos

@@notshockwavedemon7543Ironically the only order it can achieve is absolute nothingness through a system inheriting complete chaos whereas the emeralds provide an exception to the law of conservation of energy, offering a means to oppose entropy.
