Honestly, this is a cool idea for a Halloween rom hack. Loneliness is frightening, because it's an actual, relatable feeling. Especially the last flame, the completely silent off-centered "TRY AGAIN" screen with a barely visible Robotnik taunting you, gives off such a haunting vibe. The whole game feels so unsettling, but in a really good way. Just goes to show that you don't always need hyperrealistic blood and an edgelord hedgehog screaming "I AM GOD".

This hack did a good job at being off-putting, but it makes we wonder why nobody ever thought to recreate Sonic locations WITHOUT any of Robotnik’s traps. It could be like a nice explore mode in future remakes unlocked after beating the game.

Traps? You mean the stuff in Scrap Brain Zone? I mean, in effect I did that by disabling all objects there. I thought an abandoned factory with idle equipment looks cooler than a completely empty base.

I’m referring to all the obstacles in all the zones, such as spikes, springs, those flamethrower canon things from Marble Zone, spiked balls, various objects that can crush sonic, Saw blades, conveyer belts, and of course, all of the badniks. The Sega Genesis instructional manual for the original game states “Speed down twisting tunnels and swing over dangerous booby traps.” Implying that all these obstacles we see throughout the game were implanted all across South Island by Robotnik prior to the events of the game, as if he already knew Sonic would arrive. My point being that it would make for a neat extra as well as make sense storywise, since beating the game means the doctor has been defeated.

I see now. Honestly, that's never something I considered, but now I wish did. That would indeed make for a neat bonus. The closest you can get to is finding the hidden monitor in SBZ3 to get rid off the dark filters.

Yeah those monitors.. never understood them. Like, I understand their purpose gameplay wise but storywise…. Why? Why would Robotnik create monitors that AID Sonic with special abilities!? Although I’d like to imagine the reason why he can always outrun Sonic is because he equips himself with the speed shoes lol.
