I ADORE team chaotix. They're a team of underdogs. Assuming Knuckle Chaotix really isn't cannon (and even if it was it's implied Knuckles hard carried the team.) This is their first real adventure ever. So they're not a world famous hero like Sonic or the ultimate lifeform like Shadow or have secret agent skills like Rouge. Heck even team Rose have more experience then Team chaotix being sidekicks who worked directly with the blue blur. Team chaotix is just a bunch of nobodies making a name for themselves proving they can compete with big leagues.

Knuckles mentioned he helped team Chaotix in a Tailstube episode while showing a screenshot of Knuckles Chaotix, and Sega only allows canon games to be mentioned in Tailstube, so i guess it's canon now

Knuckles Chaotix being canon makes sense in Heroes, they fought Metal Sonic Kai, that's enough reason for Eggman to hired the Chaotix Detective Agency to fight back Neo Metal Sonic. I like your comment, it is evident time was not kind to Team Chaotix, and this mission was a great reason to bring them to the modern era.
