Muscle memory, but it doesn't make a difference. UNLESS you are going for a frame perfect spindash/jump.

in the genesis games, sometimes the game doesn't recognize when you press a jump button, and that's why speedrunners press the 3 jump buttons to avoid misinputs. Maybe he just does that in Mania because of habits.
