This legitimately brought tears to my eyes. Sitting in my dad's lap with a the controller upside down and playing sonic 2. My father passed in 2000 but bought me sonic games whenever he could. And here’s something even MORE sketchy (pun intended). Knuckles’ Chaotix features Mighty the Armadillo as a playable character. Have you ever noticed that his sprites look similar to Sonic’s from Sonic 1, 2, & CD? That’s because in Knuckles’ Chaotix prototype, Sonic Crackers, Sonic & Tails were the only characters in it. And Mighty appears in the very first slot on the character select screen after the title screen. Strange, isn’t it? Sonic usually appears first. That means that...Mighty in KC is a re-skinned Sonic! This makes them even MORE similar!

So the animation can continue two ways: Sonic Mania: Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles go to the next floor without any unexpected surprises. Sonic Mania Plus: Mighty stops the elevator before it fully closes, and Sonic lets him and Ray in. If you want, you can even add this third way (even though the animation for it is fanmade): Amy?: Amy stops the elevator, but Sonic doesn't let her in and closes the elevator on her.

This trailer is a wonderful work of art. I got legitimately emotional and teary eyed. Not because it's a "return to form" game or anything like that. Because as a trailer it celebrates everything that makes Sonic great. Unique level design, fun and colorful characters, and music that will NEVER leave your head. Thank you Sega and Sonic Team, Tyson Hesse and Hyper Potions, for putting together a video that regardless of what happens with the game I will come back to watch over and over for years. It probably has to do with the S3 original soundtrack, which had some of the songs composed by Michael Jackson, but whatever... The only thing that prevents me from purchasing Mania is that it won't be released for Android... at least for now

Rusty Rom Games They have alternative version of soundtrack in Sonic & Knuckles Collection. They wouldn't have to compose anything nor fight against lawyers.

Gnidel I don't think legal issues are really the problem, it's more that Sega never let them finish it. I don't know why, it was a pretty dumb decision, but I don't think legal issues were the problem. Ports of Sonic 3 (Classic Collection, UGC, etc.) still had the old music. But who really knows.

jgould30 I'm not sure because 20$ is a high price for a best of with a few new stages. I'll still buy it to encourage SEGA for the "real" 2D sonic returns but just because I'm a huge fan. I don't think that a normal person will spend 20$ into a 2D sonic.

Valentin Kropp maybe not. Old Sega cartridges used to sell for $60-$70 bucks for only a handful of levels. I think old school and newer Sonic fans will be happy to drop $20 for the nostalgic and for something to do before Forces hits stores.

Demigod Quagsire I respect your preference of Forces, but I'd just like to express that comments like yours really sadden me - a fan who grew up playing the original titles. Hearing things like this indicates that there are people who actually prefer what Sega has done with this beloved franchise over their original creation, which means they will continue to take Sonic in this direction. It's not that I don't appreciate them making Sonic Mania and bringing back classic Sonic in Generations and Forces. Or that I dislike the idea of a 3D Sonic game. It's just that when Sega redesigned Sonic, they made the games so fundamentally different to the originals in nearly every way that they basically said farewell to the fans of the classics. I'll never understand why Sega felt they should rebuild Sonic from the ground up instead of trying to evolve the successful formula and bring it into the 3rd dimension, and how they now feel the best thing to do is to split the character in two essentially. I can certainly see that there is somewhat of an appeal to the current 3D Sonic gameplay, but it's just not the same Sonic that fans of the original gameplay are craving. Sorry, just venting some built-up frustration is all... I'll stop here before I get too carried away.

You know i'm a huge fan of Sonic 2D too and i'm exciting by his return, i don't see the point to insult me. I'm just saying that 20$ is a little too expensive for only 6 new zones. 15$ would have been a better price because i've friends who already said to me that they will not buy it at this price since they are just regular gamer and not sonic huge fans.

Ahmed Adheem Sonic isn't back as far as I'm concerned, it's simply getting a break from the incompetence of SEGA. Im tired of people saying that. If Forces is anything to look at, it is that SEGA still have a VERY shaky grasp on how Sonic should be handled. I don't count Mania too much really because it still harbors on the only thing SEGA knows how to do somewhat right, and that's nostalgia. Jaren7411 i don't now why they hate a lot on sonic games i mean can you see the hate on SA2 now? thousands of next gen people, and then Sonic 06,Unleashed,Colors and Generations i don't know why people hate unleashed a lot i actually enjoyed it a lot more than generations and colors and i enjoyed Sonic '06 too if you look past the glitches bugs the loading screens and of course sonic x elise the game is actually pretty good, Sonic heroes was a beloved game SA1 was too, shadow the hedgehog? some people hate it and some don't, Sonic lost world was not bad i mean it was a little cartoon-ish and then sonic boom oh boy no need for words not that it only had bad gameplay but horrible music, Sonic Forces & Mania are our only chance for now but i can already tell they're gonna awesome.

I kinda want to tell those it's not the fact he's gullible the he believed in Robutnik in Sonic 3 and Knuckles at some point you may see a mural where sonic is fighting Robutnik but at first glance it is unclear which side is the evil one if you don't have prior knowledge of the 2.
