Sonic on a Commodore computer?

Sonic the hedgehog on a Commodore 64! (Sonic 64)
Today we are using the Commodore 64 maxi with REU turned on ( ram expansion unit ) To play sonic the hedgehog on a Commodore 64.
The computer used in this demo is a modern day replica of the commodore 64 called TheC64 and was made by retro games.

This is a port of Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 1. Amazing! Running extremely smoothly.

as i could knew, It’s OLD NEWS,but what i didn’t knew that it required the ram expansion to work,the gamegear has less ram then the C64 but it still could just run the entire game,but i guess that original version uses bankswitching while in this case i suppose the whole game has to be loaded into that ram expansion and run it from there, mmm.

As far as I know the REU is mainly used to achieve that fast scrolling of the level graphics, as the REU contains a DMA chip for fast data transfer which the stock C64 does not have, and which is used here as a kind of accelerator card.

It appears in this game that you can load the entire contents into the REU memory so you don't need to disk swap as well. I have to say, I wish there were more uses for the REU as it is pretty awesome. I never had one back in the day. Now with the C64 Maxi.... everyone that has one of these machines has an REU.
