Sonic Prime Ending Explained

The third and (so far) final season of Sonic Prime has come to its conclusion and with it there has been a lot of confusion. What happened to the shatterspaces and what attacked Sonic at the end? Today I hope to clear some things up as we wrap up this fun show!

That would have been nice But the show is about the shattered characters, mostly Nine. I suspect that Nine is the reason why Sonic tried giving his prime friend seadogs instead of regular chili dogs. When Sonic went back to Green Hill, he wouldn’t see Nine again. Therefore the show ended quickly. (Similar to how we didn’t see Sonic and Tails’s reconciliation in X.)

@@AAI_Einstein Basically in the final season of X, A girl named Cosmo was introduced and she and Tails became best friends and it’s implied that they might have even had crushes on each other. Sonic Prime was based X. Nine is a combination of Chris and Tails, except more angsty. Sonic Prime (the character) is a combination of Sonic X and Cosmo. Prior to her introduction, Cosmo’s family was wiped out or something while she was spared. However though Cosmo was spared, the Villain forced her to become his spy by doing something that would allow him to hear/see everything that she does and Cosmo didn’t know about what the villain did. Cosmo felt terrible about spying on everyone and eventually sacrificed herself to stop the villain. She used her powers to keep this bad thing in place while Tails had to shoot Super Sonic there. Tails was reluctant but Cosmo talked him into it. Cosmo died and Shadow sent Sonic away at the last moment because Tails already lost Cosmo, he didn’t need to lose Sonic as well. When Sonic got to Tails, He gave him a seed that came from Cosmo. In his grief, Tails was furious with Sonic for being unable to save Cosmo. Tails began attacking Sonic while screaming at him. Sonic decided to let Tails vent. (However in the American dub, Tails’s words were changed, likely because of censorship). We don’t see them making up because the final scene was about Chris leaving Sonic’s world.

The show also implies that the shatter space variants will go back to living their normal lives when Rebel Rouge says "you get to your home, we'll get to ours" to Sonic. It wouldn't make sense if all the variants died anyway. Good video.

I think the ending sort of ruins the entire story... first of all the shatterverse was created when sonic destroys the paradox prism, we know this because in new yolk's history (s1) we get to see how a piece of the paradox prism (from green hill) has been in there from the past, that's how they kept the city energized and it was well known (Nine knew), so it's like all these universes were created from the moment it broke and history was rewritten, we also see how every shatter realm had it's own prism piece. It was also implied Nine and Shadow thought that by fixing the original world these shatter realms would dissappear (one of the reasons why I thought Nine got so mad and why Shadow didn't trust Sonic), but at the end it was just like... "everyone goes back to their universe" happy ending... how? Didn't nine say he would revert the crystal or smth? Whatever happens to the prism nine has, and the prism back in gh? What about the other verses, do they also go to the past like sonic? And if so, do they get a piece of the shattered crystal? You get what I mean?

@@TheLeoGBA yea i had the same questions. i do wish they clarified all this and that's why i felt kinda depressed after the show ended. maybe nine didn't want to fix the prism because he knew sonic would go back to his original world and he wouldnt be able to meet him again and he got upset because sonic didn't consider his feelings about this? that could be an explanation, but the part about the realms having their own prism piece from the beginning is confusing, yea. i get where you're coming from and i agree.

I like to imagine the shatterverse and it’s shatterspaces are still there and they are all fully fixed and operational. Everything just continues after Sonic leaves and they still remember him and the all events that unfolded through the 3 seasons.

2:35 - I think Ian Flynn said what he said because he thought that unless there is a season 4, then the blue energy is a Genesis Wave (basically the Sonic equivalent of a Flashpoint). If that's the case, then it could be something similar to what we see in the beginning of Sonic X, where they end up in a completely different world that is separate from anything that Sonic saw in Sonic Prime.

@@mazkeraid4039 I think the only way a 'season 4' could potentially work is if it was a separate series, but still using the same characters and continuing from where this one left off (kind of like the Power Rangers ZEO alternative to Sonic Prime). Instead of returning to the worlds from the Shatterverse, the characters now have to deal with the blue wave and whatever that is. The positive part of this is that it would enable them to advance the story and further develop Sonic, while having the core characters all in the story this time. The downside is if they went this route, fans would expect Shatterverse characters to show up. So if they didn't show up, fans would probably not receive it as well as they did with the first series. And if they DID show up, there's the risk the show would just be the same thing as Sonic Prime. If they were to use the Shatterverse characters, then they should have them interacting with the core characters and show their personalities bouncing off one another. Which honestly is something that should've happened in Sonic Prime anyway. Imagine Tails actually being able to relate somewhat to Nine because he didn't have any friends before Sonic showed up. Or imagine the different versions of Amy and Knuckles interacting with the ones from Sonic's world. And hey, maybe there are alternate versions of Sonic and Shadow out there too. There are so many ways to explore this and to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I'm just disappointed by how rushed the ending felt, despite the long drawn out battle in the episodes before. They spend so long fighting only to hastily resolve everything within the last episode, and don't even really clear things up. They barely even had much of a proper goodbye for the shatterspace variants either, especially not for a series finale. They just sort of went "oh no Sonic you gotta go" and off they went.

You honestly bring up really valid points here. I do still think that the Shatterverse exists, but the reason why we don't see much else of it is because of the fact that Sonic cannot enter it anymore. However, Shadow has shown that he can enter it via Chaos Control, so it begs the question of what he did with the Paradox Prism. The answer to this question can possibly link to the mysterious explosion of energy that occurred in the ending. Great job explaining this man!

my theory is that the paradox prisms world was in a way like the phantom ruby in which everything was a dream cause in season three it was like no one remembered the paradox worlds as if it was a dream world or in a way null space

I think the shatter spaces are actually real but the other versions of Sonics friends said he will never be able to come back to the Shatter space once he enters green hill but once Shadow took the paradox prism there's no telling what he did because don't forget that shadow using the chaos emerald he can manipulate time and space its self. Here's a thought what if Shadow gave the Paradox Prism to nine so he can live his life in the grimm because if Shadow can teleport TECHNICALLY he can still enter the Shatter space.

I'm beyond behind sonic prime,I haven't even seen season 2 cause my internet rather make the episodes buffer for all eternity,no idea what's wrong =w= but anyway,I had no idea sonic prime was ending,I knew netflix would cancle it sooner or later,they *ALWAYS* do :( this makes me so sad,I was hoping for a season 4,thanks netflix you got rid of another great show that had full potential

I mean, as much as I loved Shadow in this show (seriously, how was that the best Shadow we had since 06? It’s crazy) I think there wasn’t much more to be done there. They got a clearly defined number of shards that correspond to the same number of worlds, and they capped off that story quite well. Plus the characters would have overstayed their welcome, I had enough of the Eggmen after first meeting them. Of course they could just keep going with an entirely new plot, but then there would be no reason for it still being Sonic prime. They can might as well tell a new story in a new game, or a new show.

Here's the issue: There is no possible way that the Shatter Spaces should still exist. They were created by the shattering of the Paradox Prism, so naturally they should cease to exist after it is restored.

Except that if they existed to begin with and the Paradox Prism just screwed them up, they wouldn't cease to exist. They would just go back to the state they were in before the Paradox Prism was shattered. The fact that Sonic remembers the other universes and that his universe even exists proves that the others do as well. He wouldn't have remembered them if they didn't exist because his memories would have ceased to exist along with them.

When the Paradox Prism was shattered, each shard wound up in a different gateway, and there were no gateways that existed without the presence of a shard. The whole idea of a "shatterspace" comes from the fact that the other worlds are SHARDS, pieces of an original whole.

So he had an original version of his universe that still exists and he likely just went there, like how the others just went to their universes. Sonic can't go to their worlds anymore, but just because you can't go somewhere doesn't mean it doesn't exist. As I said before, unless that blue wave at the end is an entropy wave that wipes out Sonic's world along with everything else, then the other universes still exist in their original state. You can't have this both ways.

In tons of alternate universe stories where a timeline is changed, characters have new backstories because of changes that happened. That isn't a contradiction. Also, if Sonic's world was just one of the others, why did only his have the entire Prism until he shattered it? It's clear that those shards played an integral part of almost every world. The Paradox Prism is a gem with the ability to warp or change reality. Sonic breaking it caused not HIS reality to fracture, but THE REALITY and created alternate timelines. These timelines included the following: Eggman(s?) wins, the forest overgrows, the world floods, and civilization dies out on the Grim or something. Why is Sonic not in these worlds? Why is Shadow not present? Because they were in different states compared to everyone else. Shadow used a Chaos Emerald, and Sonic was fracturing reality. Sonic's reality was only somewhat there with Ghost Hill, which was a literal blueprint to fix everything. Why did Sonic start to die when his Prism energy was stripped from him? Because he does not belong in this fractured space. If he just opened a portal to the other worlds, then why can everyone else travel freely? He is a walking contradiction. In fact, Nine specifically stated that Sonic might "fall apart" once he gave up his energy. Why? Because everything was split apart when Sonic broke the Prism, and without the energy, he's beginning to split just like everyone and everything else.

@@EndlessPiplup I honestly think you're overanalyzing this. There are only theories regarding how alternate universes work, because nobody has ever been able to go to other universes to test them. I see it as two possible outcomes. Either all of the universes still exist in the state they were in before they were shattered, or none of them exist. Just because the prism only exists in one universe doesn't mean that universe is the only one that can exist. We don't know the state those worlds were in before they were shattered, and unless someone can factually state exactly what they were unerringly, then all we'll ever have are theories, which is the exact intent of the show.

Honestly, what I think really happened, and what actually may have happened is that nothing ever took place. Sonic dreamt and thought of it all, since all the variants were according to HIS mind instead of the whole world itself. And if did take place and Sonic and Shadow did return, shadow is not with sonic. And he also doesnt show any happiness or relief that he saved Sonic. Im just saying, you know, how his friends kept stressing on how he was weird later might be due to sonic imagining it all.

My guess is that the ending of Sonic Prime could be a set up to Sonic Forces, I think Sonic Prime takes place between Sonic Lost World and Sonic Forces as away to give Meta Era Sonic a send off (I hate using that word Meta TBH) as Sonic Prime is about Sonic going on a journey though the Shattered spaces of self discovery and redemption, We'd kinda seen it with Sonic Forces but that high ups wanted Sonic to be child friendly (which is fine but I myself was tired of that style for Sonic by Lost World) and it really showed with the IDW Comics and Sonic Frontiers.

The Shatterspace still exists - those universes existed before Sonic shattered the prism, and they will continue to do so. Knowing the Chaos Council and Nine, they could return to the main universe, they have the know-how.

I figured that the shattered spaces would disappear when the Prism was put together. Nine even says "What did you think would happen to me when you got your home back?". It made sense for him to turn on Sonic since he didn't want to disappear. But if that was never an issue, then what was the whole point of the betrayal?

Yeah, I was confused by it too. Why have Nine imply that he fears erasure only to not go anywhere with it? However it’s Theorized that Nine sent Green Hill away. But the main reasons why Nine turned against Sonic is 1. Sonic rarely listens to him, especially since Sonic began trying to collect the shards. 2. The Grim still needed help yet Sonic refused to lift a finger and hypocritically believed that it was beyond repair. Even though Nine went through literal torture and more to try to make Sonic happy and meet him halfway. 3. Nine is possessive of Sonic, partly due to Sonic being his only friend. With the possibility that Green Hill was sent away, he not only wouldn’t be able to help The Grim anymore, he would also have lost his only friend and Sonic would likely forget all about him when he reunites with the prime characters. (Which more or less, is exactly what happened, showing that he was properly paranoid.) 4. When they made the plan, Sonic didn’t mention anything about wanting Green Hill back or clarify that he wanted Green Hill fixed, instead Sonic only complimented the Grim. So He thought that Sonic meant that the plan was to fix the prism in The Grim.

Like I said, he’s also mad because “The Grim still needs help but Sonic refuses to lift a a finger no matter how many times Nine helps him” “Sonic rarely listens” “Nine thought Sonic meant that he wanted to fix the prism in The Grim” So yes, Sonic helping Green Hill was indeed betrayal. Remember Nine is indirectly responsible for the decaying and he wanted to fix it, yet Sonic hypocritical denied him of it and believed it to be beyond repair despite wanting to fix a place that actually was beyond repair. He still thinks Sonic meant that the plan was to help the Grim. Sonic refuses to carry his own weight.

Sonic Prime’s plot was too big to have a story which at parts felt underdeveloped, repetitive fights and a rushed ending. The show should’ve been more than 23 episodes

Yeah probably, the ending was very unsatisfying with literally none of the characters except shadow completing their character arcs which makes it feel so unsatisfying ngl. It’s also annoying how sonic didn’t have enough time in the final episode of season 3 to spend that much time with the old gang especially tails since nine was his variant and also the main antagonist of season 3.
