Its nice to see Fang the Sniper back, shame we dont get either Bark or Bean back, atleast based on this announcement trailer but still, lets hope all 3 of them make it, like in mania

I'm honestly fine with them just bringing Fang back first. Whereas Bark and Bean have only ever featured in Sonic The Fighters, Fang had appeared in numerous games in the 90's, most notably as a villain in Sonic & Tails 2. He's got a bit more history, so this was a long time coming for the character (especially considering his cancelled appearances in both Sonic Xtreme and Heroes). In future though, I'd love to see them include Bark and Bean, maybe after Fang's numerous defeats at the hands of Sonic. He'd seek them out, and for the first time in the games' canon, form the Hooligans, and even doublecross Eggman if he thinks it'll get him rich. It'd be cool to have a new reoccurring villain group besides Eggman, who'd sometimes team up with him if their goals align, and sometimes butt heads.

I've waited too damn long for this. Fang was one of my favourite characters in the franchise, and it's a crime he stopped appearing in games after the 90's. His bossfights in Triple Trouble are still some of the most memorable encounters in the series, and as a villain, he was a breath of fresh-air among the darker and edgier ones. There was a point in time where Fang was a regular among the cast, as much as Amy even. Since Knuckles was more of a friendly rival to Sonic, Fang was the perfect "other antagonist" for the series, who could flip sides depending on who makes him the best offer. He was even slated to appear as a boss in Sonic Xtreme, and considered for Heroes alongside his lackies Bark and Bean, which would've given those characters a lot more purpose than just one-off fighting game characters. Sonic Team have had many opportunities to bring Fang back, and it's a shame it's taken so long. I know Mighty and Ray are beloved, but character-wise, they don't have a lot going for them. One's a beta-design for Sonic, while the other might as well be Tails but a squirrel. By comparison, Fang had a lot more to work with. He's a villain, he's driven by greed, he cuts corners with his contraptions and ends up paying the price, and he's a sharpshooter. His animal inspiration, the jerboa, also gives him a unique look, and his Marvellous Queen airbike, springy-tail and P-shooter give him plenty to work with, should he ever become playable in future. So yeah, better late than never. Hopefully Fang's here to stay.

@@ThisisTheUltimate In the comics? Yeah, probably. Canonically? No. Fang's character designer Touma created him with a Jerboa motiff, right from the get-go. However, the North American localisation changed his description as a wolf/weasel hybrid, along with his name Knack The Weasel. While Knack was originally his intended name, SEGA changed it officially to Fang, due to Knack being pronounced similarly to Knuckles by the Japanese (though again, North America ran with the name for a little while). Given how inconsistent North American Sonic lore is (e.g. Sonic's home is on South Island, which is where zones like Green Hill and all the locations from the first game took place, yet the North American lore changed it to "Mobius" and then flip-flopped on the definition of "Mobius", so would often default to "Green Hill" or "Sonic's world"), it's no surprise SEGA would retcon a lot of it, and go back to the original Japanese lore. It's why Dr Eggman stopped being called Robotnik after the 90's, though they reworked it so that Robotnik would be his lesser-used real name. In Fang's case, his wolf/weasel hybrid situation never got a story explanation in the source material. On the official website for Sonic Superstars, it shows that Sonic Team ended up honouring Touma's original inspiration for the character, and describes Fang simply as a Jerboa. His official name now is Fang The Hunter, with past titles like Sniper and Nack The Weasel simply being aliases he used to avoid the law, due to his status as a wanted criminal. TL;DR, Fang is officially, canonically, a Jerboa. All variations of his race description have been disgarded to avoid confusion, much like the majority of North American Sonic lore (namely that found in the 90's cartoons and comics at the time). Admittedly, I'm gonna find it difficult calling him Fang The Hunter, but they made the right call in recontextualising his past names as aliases
