These special stages are a really good idea, i personally think that the weird collision lets it down and makes it truly frustrating. Hopefully Hez addresses it in the next update. Great playthrough btw!

I mean, Sonic Mania was a fan game. Developed by fans of the classic games who'd been making sonic romhacks for years. Sega just made it official instead of an unlicensed fan game, and that's how we got Sonic Mania. So that's still the best fan game, for me anyway. But with Taxman and Stealth (sonic mania developers) having all that history in the romhacking community, they deliberately made Sonic Mania really easy to mod. That's why we're seeing more sonic fan games in the last 3 or 4 years than we've ever seen before. There's thousands of them. And it's possible to do really insane shit in it, like in this fangame, with the custom title screen and menu system, that has no real practical purpose, they just put it in there to make it look cooler. We're definitely gonna see so many special games a few years from now. Taxman and Stealth went on to be actual game developers after starting out with fangames. So the explosion in fan games that are modded versions of Sonic Mania means that we're gonna get hundreds of new developers. They'll take what they learned from making the fan games, and then go on to make their own original unique games. Now _THAT_ is exciting. Like more games like the Freedom Planet games. Freedom Planet began as another sonic romhack. But they eventually turned it into an original game with original mechanics, and slightly similar but mostly very different game mechanics to sonic. And it's a bloody brilliant game, the first one. The 2nd one isn't out yet. But since Sega said after Sonic Mania that Mania was gonna be the last ever 2D pixel art sonic game and that there'd he no sonic mania 2, Christian Whitehead (Taxman) went and joined the Freedom Planet developer team. So we've got the main guy behind sonic mania now working for the people who made Freedom Planet and are currently developing the sequel, both clearly inspired by sonic, but more than different enough to be its own thing. But with Christian Whitehead working on it, when the first Freedom Planet game was already bloody amazing, Freedom Planet 2 will probably blow every other 2D platformer released next year out or the water. Maybe it'll bag game of the year. I'm really excited to see what Christian Whitehead can add to an already top class game

The gameplay was really slow when it came to the second phase, so I tried to speed it up, but had to cut the actual audio because it was hard having to match it with the sped up version.

This is an incredible fan game. The graphics are incredible and are of a cohesive style, the music sounds like real Sonic music on real Genesis hardware, the level design is actually good. So many Sonic fan games are so amateurish but this one really kills it on every level.

Was tempted to try and get all the emeralds when it gave me that Metal Sonic teaser at the end, so glad I didn't bother the special stages are the absolute worst. Also special mention to the final boss that takes way too long to beat and then has the fake out which leads into more of the same exact attack patterns, awful, in fact most of the bosses are kinda bad. But as a Sonic Fangame that's actually almost complete it automatically gets an 11/10 well done lads you did it.

Really really really good game! allot of work went to it, and I see recognizable sprites. Wonder what game engine was it made in. At first it all looks genuine pixel work as if Genesis engine. However the Super Sonic shine/bloom effect gives it away, since it is very smooth gradiant.

I've played a few hours of this. It's quite good and a fun nostalgic throwback. Sort of feels like a blend of the Megadrive Sonic games and the GBA ones. It's not quite the 10/10 best Sonic game ever the comments here paint it as, as I have encountered numerous bugs, performance issues and such. The level design is good but some parts felt too much like I was just watching sonic play the level himself. Great effort for a fan game though! I'll probably revisit in a few months to see if the game has been refined further and some of the bugs ironed out.

Never have I seen/encountered: 1. A fourth zone shorter than the second zone and third zone (Frozen Fractal shorter than Factory Frenzy and Rustic Ruins.) 2. A sixth zone that appears to be the second shortest level. In my opinion, this should be the order of the levels. 1. Crystal Coves 2. Frozen Fractal 3. Jupiter Jungle 4. Rustic Ruins 5. 17:40 - how come Sonic doesn't get instant-killed when hit by flying elevator? That should be instant death. Also when Robotnik is hit - his "laughing" sprite suppose to change to "hit" animation sprite. Also why is his sprite flickering too? He is not a robot!

This game was pain. Physics aren't that great, SPECIAL STAGES PHYSICS ARE WORSE THAN ANYTHING. It's so painful getting all of the chaos emeralds for what? For a glitched super sonic, that doesn't work properly and has an useless dash when you transform. But you still need super sonic for bosses cuz they're so hard. This is a bit exagerrated but this matches my thoughts. Also there are tons of bugs. No hate towards the creator, but this feels so unfinished and rushed. this is the sonic 06 of fangames, except this can be fixed

Yeah, to be honest the special stages physics felt like the main issue I ran into a lot, wasn't easy getting all chaos emeralds without failing at least 1 or 2 of them. But after all, this is a prototype build so hopefully these things might be fixed in a future update.

Not sure how to be honest. When I was playing this for the first time, Super Sonic didn't have any glitches. Though I think at one point, I did encounter Blue Super Sonic. Other than that, every other attempt I was playing had Super Sonic's usual color show up just fine.
