Fun story: the Metarex arc is so different because it originally wasn’t supposed to happen. Sonic X initially was planned for cancellation at the end of its second season as it wasn’t a big hit in Japan. It WAS however very popular with kids in the US and in other countries (which usually used 4kids’ English dub as it’s source). So much so that 4Kids themselves actually commissioned Sega/TMS to make 26 more episodes. Given that the planned game adaptation/human world stuff was the initial end goal, they had to come up with something new. Hence the change in setting, villains and an increased focus on the core Sonic cast. Rewatching it as an adult I’d say that was the right call to make, and I only wish the whole show was like it. I just can’t help but find it funny that 4kids is the reason the best season of the show got made at all.

Season 3 wasn't done by 4kids. Season 3 was first aired in France before 4kids even aired it. Season 3 was produced in late 2004 in Japan. It was meant to air in Summer 2005 (According to Sonic's Japanese Voice Actor) But TvTokyo decided not to. And the only way you could watch season 3 japanese version back then is by importing the VCD set which has Japanese audio with Chinese subtitles.

4kids did not commission Japan to make season 3 otherwise it would have been made in mind with their regulations content aka how the extra 4kids commissioned Ultimate Muscle episodes and Yu Gi Oh Capsule Monsters miniseries were made with their editing standards in place. Plus Season 3 was more violent than the first two seasons. It's true that the season was produced for Foreign Markets but it was not paid to be made by 4Kids Entertainment. Its a common misconception.

@@bunsmasterbunny although she did do some other things in the anime, Amy is a prime victim of this, since in the original SA 2, she was the one who gave the big speech to shadow about giving a new chance to see the good in mankind and thus reminding him of the last words that Maria spoke, which showcased her optimism and ability to sympathize with people past first impressions, in contrast to her more imperative and tenacious character traits. In the anime, CHRIS is the one to give shadow the big speech, which considering his lackluster interactions with him beforehand and his even more bland personality, it just erases a lot of the significance of it, since this was the turning point in which shadow decides to unit which sonic and destroy the big lizard, and also pushes Amy to the side to be nothing more than a support character

That always bothered me with Chris. He actually had a good life. He had three best friends with Helen, Danny, and Frances, his parents weren't the worst either. When they had time, they wanted to spend this free time with their son. There were a handful of episodes where his parents left in the middle of their work to be there for Chris. But it seems his life is only worth something if he can hang out with Sonic, which makes him come off more like an ungrateful, pathetic, loser fanboy rather than a lonely child.

I mean, he was a kid bullied for his appearance (his 2 tails) but also had positive qualities such as his intelligence. Then he meets a guy who teaches to use something everyone else perceived as negative for good (using his tails to fly) and sonic becomes like a bigger brother figure to him. Though, at the start, he was too dependent on him, and always just known as the sidekick, constantly in sonics shadow. Later tails gets over his fears and becomes his own hero. There's a lot of stuff relatable about tails

I didn't see Far from Home because I didn't see Homecoming. The most recent Spiderman movie I watched is Into the spider verse.

I really wish we got the Sonic X that the pitch pilot showed, in which it was set in Sonic's own world where all the inhabitants (save for Dr. Eggman) were anthropomorphic animals as opposed to the "reverse isekai" we ultimately got where Sonic and his friends are transported to our world. It would certainly spare us of Chris Thorndyke and actually be ABOUT Sonic himself, which is something that always bugged me about Sonic X, how it was barely even about Sonic, as well as the fact that we never saw any other anthro animals in the series beyond Sonic and his friends. It's kind of one reason why I always preferred some of the more western Sonic material such as SatAM, AoSTH, and the Archie Sonic comics (and yes, even Sonic Underground), because I always found it so jarring to see these technicolor cartoon animals interact with more realistic looking human characters. Sonic always just felt more in-place in an overly cartoony world populated by anthro animals like him. I think that's the reason Sonic X never really resonated well with me and why I always found more appeal in the western Sonic material.

I've been working on a reboot for 6 months that would fix and/or mock every issue that the original had likeplot holes, scenes that last too long, or pointless characters. This reboot is called Sonic Re-imagined. It has more original ideas, redoes the stories that already exists, and so much more.

As someone who is fine with humans existing in the Sonic franchise, I think it would be cool if we saw humans coexist with anthropomorphic animals in the show; for some reason, the games either did one or the other, but never both, which makes the fact they didn't do that in a show where characters besides the main cast are probably gonna have a bit more presense an even bigger missed opportunity. You could argue that this would still have Chris Thorndike, but the solution to that is simple: don't have him in the first place, or at the very least make Chris a more likable and preferrably less present character so that he doesn't drag the story down as much as he does in the final product.

That was not a pitch pilot of any sort. It was just promotional material. Not what they are, and they wouldn't have made it without Chris as the entire show hinged on their relationship. No Chris, no Sonic X/Sonic Anime. You got the same thing you would have gotten otherwise, just with a character with more emotional depth than the majority of other Sonic characters. It IS about Sonic. Chris is only the main character for 4 episodes and he is not the spotlight for any other episodes. Him having a role does not diminish the other characters and it does not make him the main focused on character. You are insane if you think it does.

A lot of people in this comment section seem to believe that Helen would have worked better as Sonic's friend than Chris. But honestly, both of them wouldn't really work as Sonic's friend. If Helen was Sonic's human best friend instead of Chris, there wouldn't really be any difference. Helen and Chris are very similar characters. They both have parents that work too much, they both feel insecure about themselves until Sonic showed up in their lives that lead to helping them, and they both grow up to be intelligent inventors. They both also don't really capture what Chris' purpose as a character was meant to be: The everyday child that the audience could see themselves as. Chris' wealthy life style, having a famous scientist for a grandfather, having a butler and maid, having neglectful parents that never spend time with him, and growing up to be an inventor is not something the whole audience can see themselves as. Helen has this problem as well. She's a girl in a wheelchair, who doesn't spend much time with her parents, and can't really go places by herself. So, neither of these two would really work well as audience surrogates. Helen's relationship with Sonic wouldn't really be as big by comparison with his already great relationship with his friends, as well as his friendship with Chris. If your stating that Helen would be a great foil to Sonic because she can't feel any happiness or freedom that Sonic feels because he can run while she can't wouldn't really work because that would be considered offensive to handicap people, and characters that CAN run don't really feel the same way as Sonic. Helen's relationship with Sonic would kind of be exactly what Sonic's relationship with Chris is, but the difference is that it took one episode to address Helen's problem while it took two seasons to address Chris'.

I don't care, Helen the Wheelchair Girl should of have been the main human character!! This would also helped that She looks like Maria Robotnik, an important character to Shadow the Hedgehog, It gives her character more purpose in the situations, They F*cked up! You see in their timeskip that she gotten smarter and more useful with technology, She has the brain, but lacks the strength and feet to be "Normal" like other kids. But then incomes Sonic who is all about running, It's crazy how well they compliment each other, and the whole thing of the fastest thing alive helping a kid in a wheelchair have fun is honestly so touching and this could maybe start some tension with some characters like Tails being already good with technology and Amy who'll just get jealous of Helen hanging around Sonic. I think there is more you can do with Her that would made things interesting for this series, talk about missed opportunity :(

I remember of the early episodes that there were only three I really liked. I think it's pretty important to mention that one of Chris's plot relevant human friends literally commits suicide by military in the Japanese version, but in the English dub she literally says "I must go, my planet needs me" (not verbatim, but she literally disappears because she wants to help her home planet). The enemy military is shown just mowing her down heartlessly without flinching in the original version. In English, they just freeze frame the shot, slide her ship off the top of the frame and pretend she just flew away.

@@thefool8750 I take Elise over Chris any day. She wasn't a Creator's Pet on the level Chris was, and she had way more sympathetic qualities. For starters she had to be responsible for an entire country at the tender age of 17; both her parents were dead; and she had some monster trapped inside her to the point where she can't cry or extreme emotional outburst. But she never whined or complained and made the best of her situation. She certainly didn't stick her middle finger at the world in favor of Sonic, and she put everyone's needs before her own. Whereas a Chris had to do was whine or make up a little white lie for everyone to come for his aid. Leeched the spotlight from established characters and even other humans that were far more interesting than him. But the real clencher was how Chris was readily condemned TWO planets to die all because he didn't have the common sense to let Sonic go. He's twelve, considered a preteen and he made the most awful decision and didn't face any sort of consequence for doing so.
