Exactly the same, I got into sonic youth the school year COVID hit in 2019-2020 my Freshman year. every time from the bus ride back and walking back to the house I would have this or Schizophrenia playing it’s just so magical when thinking about it now because of nostalgia.

Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation has been added to the permanent archives of the National Recording Registry for a reason. It's a brilliant album and one of the best of its generation and genre.
@dragmio

@@filmfredrik No they're not. Only "Rather Ripped" is. Even "Kool Thing" is more off and original than "Teenage Riot" or "Silver Rocket". Maybe you're too young so you don't know, but I can tell you that there were literary hundreds of bands with songs like "Silver Rocket" and when "Kool Thing" came out, people couldn't believe what they're hearing. Of course, such people dismissed the rest of the "Goo" right away. But no one dismissed "Silver Rocket". It was run of the mill alternative rock back then.

I was a really shitty kid and spent the entirety of my freshman year of high school grounded and all but locked inside my room. This was one of two albums I owned for the duration of those seven months and I listened to it, shit, 500 times, easy? And adding on the number of times I've listened to it in the intervening DECADES... I dare say I could hear any part of this backwards and from the moon and recognize it without a moment's hesitation. I'm over the city, fucking the future.

I remember when this album came out. Had not heard of them before. All the music trades were heralding the album as an instant classic. I bought it at Rasputin's Records in Berkeley, CA. it overwhelmed me at first, but after repeated listens, it became an addiction. Had to buy several copies, because the previous ones were worn out. got to see them twice, and Thurston once as a solo artist. Still love them. I wish they would get together and just one more tour.

Bob Zmuda Growing up reading the NME in the late 90s all I read on Sonic Youth were sneering comments about them being unlistenable, pretentious and, yes, overrated. Then a friend lent me Daydream Nation. It remains the most ferocious, intense exhilarating album I've ever heard.

The Sprawl I never could understand NME's blatant disregard for SY.They call them pretentious but you can't get much more pretentious than NME itself. Your right this album is a masterpiece and if your looking for something equally ferocious,although you've probably heard it,try Pixies Surfer Rosa.

By listening to all SY albums anyone with a brain should come to the conclusion that DDN is the least typical of all. Their sixth album, released in 1988, Daydream Nation was my first Sonic Youth album, and still my favorite today. When this album came out it changed my life. I have seen them live seven times beginning 8/21/1990 (with an unknown at the time, Nirvana opening up). I recorded a high quality bootleg of their live Berkeley, CA performance of Daydream Nation beginning to end, on 7/19/2007.
