I've been following your channel religiously ever since I stumbled across it a year back. Your covers really bring out the beauty in the compositions of Sonic Youth - a body of work that a lot of people label as being too "avant-garde" or "weird". I mean, it is - it also makes them probably the most influential alternative/indie rock band of all time (its ripples are still being felt directly and indirectly in about 70-80% of critically-acclaimed rock that's coming out in 2023) - but I seriously doubt their alternate tunings and noise (or, at least, their particular take on it) would've had the relative wide reach and impact it had were it not for their collective songwriting abilities as well as their indescribable guitar interplay, which IMO flowered with their 'EVOL' - 'Sister' - 'Daydream Nation' trilogy. Thank you for dedicating more than a decade to highlighting this particular aspect of what makes them so special. Most popular guitar tutorial-type channels are probably never even going to touch the back catalogue of bands like Sonic Youth as well as those hundreds upon hundreds of underground, left-field bands who played/are playing styles of music that they'd left their indelible mark on throughout their career (noise rock, "slacker" indie, post-hardcore, math rock, a vast majority of post-rock/metal, shoegaze, most modern art-punk a-la Black Midi, etc.) - so thank you for filling this gaping void. You've made me appreciate my favourite band in an entirely new way. Please keep healthy and keep rockin'.

A very warm thank you for those touching words. I really appreciate every note you write here and I couldn't be more in agreement. When I started this 'project' back in the days it was mostly run on the intention of trying to grasp how the SY-songconstruction could/would work out on an acoustic level - just to see if I was able to dissect the diffenrent tonalities, patterns, rhythms, sounds and such but then I felt that, well maybe I could try to even dissect it even more and split the parts up to try to get the full extent of how the approach to songwriting/making in the arrays of Thurston versus Lee etc. That was (and is still) very interesting - plus I get an even deeper glimpse into the boilerroom of the backbone of the songstructure. Or, at least how I hear it. Most of the time I'm also just improvising on the arrays/fields that I find very hard to dissect - then it's more a matter of getting the right feeling up n' running :) I am truly and genuine glad that you have found my acoustic cover-versions inspirational in any way possible. Thank you very much!

i recently got an eletric guitar and i REALLY want to play lots of sonic youth songs, but im afraid of breaking strings in the tuning process :(

Here's my advice, or how I go about it :) The most important thing is to get the 'tuning-figure" correct. As in: If you want to do the immortal tuning used a lot on EVOL etc. it's F# F# F# F# E B then the strumming of the strings should be in the correct unison (the 4 F#'s) but what's not so important is if it's the right key. If you feel that you're a bit afraid of breaking strings then just start out lower as in: (E E E E D A) then it's the right tuning-figure but in a lower key. Then as soon as the strings get used to their new shape then you can tune up to hit the right key of F# eventually. Only things is that if you want to playalong to the record then you might want to use a capo in 2nd fret for instance (to hit the desired F#). Makes sense? I hope so - otherwise ask :) Good luck and enjoy
