I was born in 1976, and I tend to appreciate the music of the 70's more than the music of the 90's. 90's music drew from 70's punk, funk, folk, rock and metal... sometimes putting it all one big stew, and re-serving it hot, and I love that about 90's music, but I guess I appreciate all of it more in the raw form. I didn't get to see most of the 90's bands that I love in the 90's. I did see Sonic Youth open for Pearl Jam in 2000 though.

Born in 1989 but the youngest of all my siblings and cousins. The term "hand-me-downs" didnt just apply to clothes, music aswell. I'm glad my older brothers and cousins listened to Sonic Youth, Pixies et al because it shaped my youth in the 90s the same as them.

i'm ten years older than you and grateful for that. 90s were awesome to grow up in. 10 years earlier than that would have been cool just as well, but i admit for you, it all looks a little too bieberesque. yet, there's always good stuff, just gotta find it. i like much of the latest electro.

I'm so thankful for Sonic Youth (and Hüker Dü and The Replacements) for getting me through in the dark until dawn or until my Walkman batteries gave out. Sonic Youth sheltered me from Bon Jovi, Wham! and Madonna. Thanks for that. Man, I feel sorry for the poor hump that's never heard of Sonic Youth.

I was born in the 80's, so I was a teenager in the 90's. Based on all the old grunge videos it must have been a great time. But the reality was pretty lame. Nostalgia doesn't buy you anything, so just keep the good memories, and look forward.

Classic. I remember doing a speech on this album in HS and playing this song, and I nearly crapped my pants when the most stereotypical cheerleader in the entire class started ROCKING OUT in her seat when the song picked up.

ACL Pick #1 The best dual lead guitar band since Television. Bassist is coolest rock chick ever (sorry, Kim). Drummer is highly underrated and perfect for the band. Helped pave the careers of Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill), Spike Jonze (director), Jason Lee (actor), rehabbed Mike Watt after D. Boon (Minutemen) died, and Daydream Nation makes great driving music (so does Goo, Dirty, Rather Ripped, A Thousand Leaves...).

@Tremblay343 What are you on?? What qualifies as an old band?? Since Sonic Youth spans 35 years in total. Not a particularly good one? I think millions would disagree with you on that one! As a guitar player myself I worship this band for their musical abilities, Lee and Thurston are like 33rd and 34th in the greatest guitarists of all time lists.

@IndieAuthorX I'm actually pretty involved in cultural studies, with an emphasis on music subcultures; I listen to lots of music. I was obviously making an allusion to the dime-a-dozen ipod commercial indie bands, like Passion Pit. I'm sure David Bowie and Iggy Pop could easily enter that discussion. I wasn't looking to split hairs though; I just wanted to express my dismay with how uninteresting a lot of newer music is to me.
