Thanks for the review on this. I decided to buy one following your demo of it. My favourite features in it are the tap tempo on the delay and chorus, makes them so user friendly. I like the effects and tend to use the preamp and reverb with my acoustic and then kick in chorus for effect. I’ve even used this pedal with my bass. Oh and I was impressed with the extra long cable on the power adapter.

I have this pedal and I use it on the nano mag side of my Les Paul Ultra. I originally bought it for my acoustic electric guitar. I recently added the blue screamer overdrive by Sonicake to the mix. Band practice tomorrow will be fun. 🤘🏼

I believe that reverb is essential for acoustic guitar, but, my favorite is delay, especially if it can support stereo output. When you split the signal with delay, it opens up the acoustic and makes it bigger sounding in an intimate setting.

I have to agree that the darker analog delay is the right fit for acoustic guitar. Just that subtle delay makes a room feel bigger and helps you relax on stage. Yep, delay would be my favorite.

I've tried other effects but, being a traditionalist, I always end up liking a bit of reverb nearly exclusively. Second would be a slight delay.

On my acoustic rig my favorite most used effects are delay, overdrive, bosssy1 synth and a tiny bit of chorus.

I bought one just to use mainly as a direct out, but I like the effects a lot. The preamp shaping is to my liking. I use a Gretsch Jim Dandy fitted with a Bill Lawrence sound hole pickup. I prefer this solution to under the saddle because I hate the thwacky sound. This pedal is perfect for soundhole magnetic pickups imo.

Great review Aaron. You didn't demo the Reverb [hold down the pedal] for reverb tails function, would have liked to see/hear that. I really like the fact that these effects are restrained, nicely suited for acoustic gigging. I have binned (sold-off :) a lot of grossly overpowered acoustic effects that are dangerously uncontrollable for live use, either a massive spike in volume when you hit the pedal or they sounded like a naff parody of an electric guitar so this is refreshing. The XLR socket DI box function could be so useful, if a venues PA also provides foldback speakers or with radio in-ear monitors, the sound going through a balanced XLR (mic) cable straight into the usually top quality mic peamps in a decent mixer desk could (should) be phenomenal. A suggestion: It would be easy to make this pedal run off the phantom power from the mixer desk like a proper DI Box, rather than needing a separate 9V PSU or a battery, this would greatly extend its usefulness for beginner live performances with affordable gear.

I have a DCM Martin with a fishman pickup. Do you think it will sound good? I somewhat am confused on passive and active pickups through the preamp. Mine is active. Thankyou

It’s going to soften the mids a little. I think it will work well with under-saddle pickups.

I have two Sonicwoods, one I keep in the gig bag and one on my board. I'm running a Fishman Black Jack passive and it sounds great. It's sound quality is right on par with my NUX Stageman floor, but the Sonicwood is a better and more affordable deal than the NUX. Pair it with an EQ and your good to go.

I look for a reliable quality effects pedal that is simple to use and help to enhance finger picking style. Stereo is a must for a big sound coming from a single acoustic guitar. Maybe one that supports two inputs from two separate pickups as well. Also helps if a single pedal can do it all and can send R/L signals to the main PA.

Wonderful review and thoughts. I use a pedal board or a Tech21 acoustic fly rig, for light gigging. I tend to keep it simpler, lighter on the effects AND...simpler in terms of gear. A single multi pedal using a single power input is just so convenient. One advantage of this pedal....separate chorus and delay. The Tech21 can only have one or the other at a time (the delay on the Tech21 is excellent). With a combination of reverb, delay and chorus...you can sort of get flanger. Not a lot of discussion on those, but a simple, all in one pedal can be great, in that setting. These pedals draw so little that you can use a 9VDC batt with the right connector to power it for the few songs you will be doing. Have looked for a reasonably priced (under $300), low power draw, fairly compact multi-effects pedal for acoustics that has EQ, chorus, delay, reverb....not seeing many.

I agree with your evaluation 100%. My favorite acoustic effect is the TC Body Rez. Similar effects like Boss acoustic resonance don’t work as well.

Not the length but it toggles ‘trails’ on and off.

I gigged with one of these when everything opened back up in Scotland after Covid and it was super reliable. I eventually upgraded to a NUX pedal, but the Sonicake was great. I had the Twiggy Blues one for electric too, which my son now has. But as far as favourite effects for acoustic goes, it has to be my looper.

This seems to be a great tool for the specific situation. I have two acoustics with passive pickups and the D-18GE sometimes has a feedback issue depending on what equipment is used. My 40 year old Washburn has a volume and tone control and I can work around that. It has the old Barcus Barry and a K&K in the Martin. I like a bit of reverb and maybe a hint of chorus for certain songs. I mainly hope to sound like a guitar without feedback.

Yes it keeps the reverb going when you turn the effect off.

Great demo ......i have one of these and it is really great for it's price point. I use it with my acoustasonic stratocaster .....and i use the preamp quite a bit ( as well as all the effects...) even though my fender has a premium preamp in it but the preamp on the sonicake is a really great and improves the sound . I also love that i can pull the sonicwood off the board and throw it in the gig bag for running as a D.I. for quick jam sessions . Built like a tank and lovely sounding

Yes it will work the same way for the kind of effects it has. Only IR-type effects are piezo specific.

I have read THREE reviews stating this unit produces INTOLERABLE amounts of WHITE NOISE to an amp (or PA), and at "band level" (higher volume) is noisy BEFORE even plugging a guitar into it. :( One person even exchanged unit for multiple units, and ALL had the same issue. Could someone respond to this please?

This stuff misses 2 things: a booster knob for the preamp, and a looper. That is wjy I do not go for it. The other thing is that I have a Cube Sugar (same concept, same Chinese stuff), and honestly, its reverb, chorus section is quite mediocre.
