Cool test! I know Alpine made head units with "V-Drive" amplifiers a few years ago and some actually required a 20A fuse and 10GA wire directly to the battery. I may try one of those on my Amp Dyno and see how it does...

Just ordered this deck for my wife's 2004 Wrangler. It has a Sony deck in it now but its only 17 watts RMS X 4. And that's just not cutting it. Don't want to run an external amp as I really don't have the room for it. So this looks like it will be a great option! I have 4 new Infinity speakers coming for it as well. Two 5.25s fro the dash and two 6.5s for the sound bar. There 3.3 ohm speakers so It should rock!

Been running my speakers at 2ohms just fine front doors tied into tweeters and rear doors tied into rear 6x9s even pushing a 750.1 d kx kicker to a dvc4 sa v3 12 at 2 ohms all sounds great loud loud

I bought this radio as soon as it was available online which was I think 2 months ago and I love it. It powers everything perfect and is super clean sounding too. The only thing I've seen is that you shouldn't go much past 45 on the volume. Sometimes it will cut out and say output error if you have at max volume which is 50.

Thats really good power for the casual driver. Its comparable to having a manufacturer installed amp in some cases. Tuned properly with some good install techniques, it might really shine.

Awesome, I am looking forward to trying this thing out. Going to run 4 5x7 components @4ohms off HU power and a separate sub/amp. I've only used Sony headunits over the past 5 years and haven't had a single issue. My only complaint, which seems to be the same that I'm reading from other customers, is that their headunits are becoming progressively uglier. I wish the MEX-XB100BT had a more refined look to it, instead of looking like some raver on ecstasy designed it on a bad trip. Oh well, maybe I'm just getting old...

doriftosan4ag So I bought it and I've been playing around with it for the past week. Overall impressions, lots of clear/clean power, lots of adjustments, but I feel like even after messing with the 10 band eq, I am missing some frequencies that I used to hear with my older Sony decks. I've played with every single option and listened to songs I know well and I can hear so much missing. I installed some inexpensive Pioneer 6x8's with NVX OFC 16 gauge wire, also sound deadened most of the car including the front doors. I have a feeling the speakers I chose are not able to accurately reproduce the signal coming out of the headunit. I am going to switch to some better speakers next month and see if that fixes it. If not, I am gonna have to ditch the headunit and just go back to an older headunit with an external amp :/

I just got one. picked it over pioneer deh80prs for price and power. the SQ is amazing all the way up to 50 but the power from the deck is barely enough to power 6.5 components in the front and 5.25 midranges in the back. maybe enough for stock or low end speakers but if your running subs you will want an amp for the mids/highs or it will get drowned in bass. hope that helps anyone buying one. features are amazing and sub and RCA outputs are strong AF.

Mike Bennett I have both one for each of my cars and I thought the same. I haven't noticed any distortion but with the windows down I feel like it needs more juice in my 2 door coupe. but it does have the USB quick charge feature over the pioneer unit, but the pioneer unit is superior IMO for the features and cost vs this one.

Sony released an update that fixed a power issue where in some cases the stereo wouldn't turn back on when you turn the keys on unless you disconnect the battery for 10 seconds and re-connected it. Haven't had an issue since! Also you can get more juice out of it if you turn on HPF and turn the Bluetooth volume "BTA Level" up to +4.

I have the Kicker CS 4-way speakers with two 4x6 front and two 6.5 rear. The 4x6 has a 3.3 ohm resistance with a peak of 150 watts with an RMS of 50 watts. The 6.5 has a 3.3 ohm resistance with a peak of 300 watts with an RMS of 100 watts. Is this Sony receiver powerful enough to run and make loud distortion free music without clipping? I'm no expert but videos like these informed me enough to ask this question. I'm deciding between running this head unit alone or having a traditional amp installed.

allyn from amplified! sweet. very nice stereo however i had a client get one of these and the stereo would keep prompting him to open sony's app on his phone. the stereo wouldnt take any instructions from the faceplate (volume, track adv, display, etc) until you hit source and went through all the sources and stopped on bt audio. then it would behave normally. that power output is nice. perhaps a market of 2ohm speakers will come around again. nice vid

I don't think a lot of people in the comments understand that this head unit is way more powerful than any other after market or factory stereo. This is why it's absolutely necessary to run a larger power wire to this. If not, it won't be able to pull enough current and it will clip and distort the signal which will sound horrible and probably burn it up.

There is a damn electronic control of the total absorption that would make you turn off the car radio. In some songs with strong bass tones isn't possible turn the Volume at max level (50). How can I resolve it?

I got this head unit after watching a few videos on it, it is bloody awesome and keeps up with my 2 12" subs nicly (not running off the head unit of course) The best money I have spent, the hands free is great. The only let down is the songpal app is shit, it wont change from landscape to portrait screen and I dont want it in portrait so I deleted it. Great head unit though, good amount of controllability

Interesting that the info on your website under this video indicates that in Subwoofer mode it states 60w x1 for that sub at 4 ohm. Would be interesting to see what it does with a 2 ohm load for the sub output. I'm thinking about running two 6.5" Tang Band subs that recommend 50w rms. Seems like you could run the subs off the rear channels in RBE setting in non-sub mode (low pass to the rear channels) or try to run in Subwoofer mode and run a 2 ohm load to that sub channel. Might be worth a try.

He said he got 68 and 75watts out of it but unless they upped the fuse then they are defying the laws of physics...15ampsx14.4volts is a max of 216watts, 68x4 would be 272...they bypassed the fuse, upped the fuse, or fudged their numbers..

Well I put a 12" MBQuart at 2 ohm on the rear channels and I'm a bit shocked at the ability of this unit to run that sub. Very musical, some decent impact and very good control. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend running this setup if you want good sound quality with very good low end. I used the Alpine 6.5" comps SPS-610C in the front and did a fair amount of door treatment.. Very pleased with the combo especially considering investing less than $400 for everything. I actually think this sounds better than my other truck that is running about $1800 worth of Kenwood gear (NAV HU, Comps, Dual 10 sub 600W 4 Channel amp). Never again for me...just waiting for someone to do this in a decent double din NAV HU.

I 've replaced an Alpine INE-S900R with this Sony head unit but, after the replacement, the door woofers have lost almost all the mid-bass. When I 've installed it, the Mega Bass function was activated, so they have played a distorted sound for some seconds. The tweeters and the subwoofer are still working fine, though. This. Had a buddy install it but he just hooked it to the harness. Sounds like crap imo. Worse than old alpine deck. I think it needs to be hooked to the battery for better sound. He just tells me 12volts is 12 volts.

I currently have a radio the does a full volume of 35 I also have a SMD dd1 when I set the gain on my amplifier I have no Distortion at all full volume out of my RCA I was curious enough to know if I was distortion-free in my mids and highs off the deck as well so I tested the dd1 off one of the channels one day for some reason I distort at volume 29 out of 35. so I was wondering if by any chance you guys tested DD1 on this radio and saw if it was distortion-free at full volume or at what volume it starts to distort

Do you definitely need to connect this stereo directly to the car battery under the car bonnet? It seems a bit crazy having to drill a hole from the sealed interior out to the bonnet. Is there no chance of splicing the existing wires (used for the old stock stereo) and taking the power from there?

If your cigarette lighter port drives 15A (Check the fuse for it), then you can splice from there, no need to drill through the firewall. You can splice to it from anywhere that has 15A & up in your interior.

Guys, My bluetooth is paired and is recognizing my device and the song being playing..I actually see the song playing in my Sonys display but I have no sound.. When I plug in my device to the front input then I can hear the stream fine from google Play but not in bluetooth It all worked fine including the bluetooth last week...I tried resetting the system and parring again..Same problem no sound there is several icons visible including a "lock" icon when in "BT AUDIO"

So I bought this deck and paired it with Alpine sps-610 coaxial speakers. it replaced the factory stereo on a 2007 Subaru Impreza. I got the installation done at visions where we purchased. Was pretty excited to hear the difference unfortunately when we played the system it wasn't even an upgrade from the factory system. Can somebody help me I don't know what's wrong. To me those pieces should sound much better than the factory unit. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that the installers did not add the fuse wire to the battery. I questioned them on it and they said that it doesn't need to be done. Could this be causing my poor sound quality issue. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks

QUESTION: My setup is as follows: 4 aftermarket plug-and-play door speakers rated at 75W RMS (at 2 Ohms) AND 1x Fosgate P300-12" subwoofer (which has its own 300W RMS built-in amp). I am currently using a line-out converter from my stock headunit to run the signal to the 12" Fosgate sub. Now my question: With this Sony headunit, could I throw out my line-out converter (and my stock headunit) for a simple RCA connection to my sub with this aftermarket stereo WHILE ALSO send the same-old high power output to my four door speakers? My goal is to send an RCA signal only from my aftermarket headunit to my self-powered sub, while also have some way to send a signal and amped power to my four door speakers. My sub being self powered takes care of itself...all I want is to boost my door speakers with a headunit that can put out nearly 75W RMS.......meaning I'm not too keen on a separate external 4-channel amp! I'm VERY new to all of this sound system stuff, and I need all the help/advice/suggestions I can get! Thanks guys!

don't do 2 ohms on it!!!! it's not specifically rated for 2 ohms and if you were to try this any damage is your own responsibility.... now, technically yes if you bridge the channels you can have (2) 2 ohm channels and it should be able to power two of your 75 watt speakers very well. I have this stereo matched with (4) 50 watt RMS pioneer 3 way coaxials in custom boxes in my car. it ROCKS! VERY powerful stereo, make sure it has plenty of juice from the battery. too small of wires caused major distortion problems for me, but after upgrading to 10awg I have absolutely no problems with voltage drop.

These things are cheap now, are they worth it???? im running external amps for the speakers and sub so im not too fussed about the built in amp, but im wondering is it worth looking at the 2018 line up??? are the new ones twice as good?

Just installed a MEX-GS820BT unit and it is amazing! The amplifier has some serious punch and you can really feel the pressure on your chest when using the Extra Bass mode!

@@xXYannuschXx I just installed an mex xb120bt today. Did you extend yellow power wire directly to your battery if so what size and how did you hook it up to sony harness? what speakers do you have?

@@rmblwgn I didn't need to hook it up to the battery directly, my car's power line to the stereo DIN connectors is rated for 25A (just look at the car's fuse box) and using the stock speakers (I plan to change them for some Gladen 165 RS in summer). Why did you buy the xb120bt? The GS820BT costs the same and features a WAY stronger amplifier and more features.

Just bought an 75 x 4 4ch amp and this head unit. Question: if I hooked up both would it power my front coaxials the 40 x2 from the deck and the 155 x 2 bridge from the external amp together to get 195 watts going to each speaker?

+burningknuckle26 I'm assuming your talking about hooking up the headunit direct to the speakers and also an external amp to the same set of speakers, then NO, sorry, it doesn't work like that, plus hooking up two sources to one set of speakers you risk blowing your speakers.

Same max power output. Xb100bt 40rms,the newer 120bt was able to squeeze out 45rms certified.

how come I have problems with my radio succeeds every 2 minutes other colors that flicker, really difficult then he automatically goes to BT and I can do nothing more louder quieter sound I have to pull him completely out of the contact and plug it back in, 1 minute after that I have that show how do I turn this off I do not use BT in my car I just want to listen to my music thank you if you want to help I am backed by stationary car due to these problems otherwise I will buy new radio.
