It's all about the preparation, countless hours of thinking about your options, your opponents options, and how to deal with them. The Johnny pick was so smart for this tourney, after just having combo breaker and beating PM with Omni-man but then realizing, while omni-man was successful against PM, it didn't bring out the overall win. I would bet money Ninja prepared for the Omni-man pick. So Sonic ( Knowing this) decided to choose someone else to go up against PM and after seeing Nicolas's success vs Ninja in combo breaker, Sonic knew what needed to be done.Then it all became clear. If Johnny was this good in Nicolas's hands, then imagine what could be done with Sonic playing Johnny, and this tournament shows all Sonic can do with Johnny.Also it seems like Sonic was testing out characters to go against Nicolas during combo breaker, Before coming to the realization that Sonic would be the better Johnny. Seeing Ninja vs Sonic and comparing it to Ninja vs Nicolas. I can say to me Sonic, seemed like the better Johnny.

Unlike other fighting games, Mortal Kombat has a block button. You don't block by holding back like in Injustice, Tekken, or Street Fighter. Because of that, there isn't a cross up or anything like that. If you're holding the block button, you are going to block no matter which side you are being hit from.

Nice! I haven't been following as much the pat few months and so I was somewhat saddened by the low amount of entrants for the game at evo recently. Still I'm glad to see these top players are still playing and enjoying this game. I'm more of a 3rd Strike / Tekken player but I actually think MK1 is a really sick game! It was the first MK I purchased since the series rebooted, I didn't even shell out for MK9, but MK1 was such a fun and beautiful game I had to pick it up and learn it a little bit at least! End ramble... Haven't really been following the tournament results / tier placements since launch but I guess Johnny is still a bit over-tuned if Sonic is still using him...
