Depends on the continuity. But overall, I think knuckles has a better opinion of tails over sonic, and that they'd be closer if sonic was out of the picture for some reason. I do see their relationship as brotherly, just in a different way. Knuckles is more of a 'tough love' kind of person, whereas sonic is more 'buddy-buddy'. I'm hoping to see more interactions between these two in the new series/movies.

I agree with Knuckles having a better opinion of Tails than Sonic I can see that. He prob just trusts Tails more. Sonic does his own thing. He doesn't listen to anyone and does what he wants. That could make him unpredictable? Idk if thats the right word but i think u get what I mean. Tails is Tails. Hes a good guy and doesnt do anything wrong. A dynamic they could go with is Knuckle's race are religious mystics and Tails is a man of science. Knuckles views the chaos emeralds and master emerald as sacred symbols of power that no one person should use and him being the last of his kind is proof of that. Tails however looks at them with a more scientific perspective and perhaps would see them as a scientific mystery to solve.

That's a great point. It's two opposing sides, but both are technically true. I like to think Tails is not really knowledgeable on ancient languages and customs of their world, given he appears to have grown up in a more modern environment than Sonic and Knuckles (at least Sonic may have learnt stuff from Longclaw), and Knuckles teaches him some of it

It's interesting cuz even though it doesn't happen in games it's mostly in other media we see the dynamics of their friendship. Tails usually relies on Knuckle's expertise on subjects that pertain to ancient artifacts or ruins since Knuckles is a skilled treasure hunter. Like it's definitely a brotherly relationship as Sonic and Knuckles are in a sense his big bros. Knuckles is more likely to lean on Tails if he needs something since Tails usually doesn't rub him the wrong way and they get along pretty well. Like I think it would be out of character for Knuckles to ever pick a fight with Tails. In the Archie comics Knuckles even showed Tails a few moves on how to fight.

I find it kinda weird how every Heroes team has a few interactions between each of the members to one another except Team Sonic. Team Rose's interactions mostly involve Amy and Cream but there are times where they both talk with Big, Team Chaotix are always talking to one another and I feel like Team Dark needs no explanation especially in Heroes. That just leaves Team Sonic with Tails and Knux which you wouldn't expect. It was definitely great to see some more interaction between Tails and Knuckles in the movie and I do definitely agree with your thoughts on game Tails and Knuckles' relationship.

Sonic is the glue to their trio and I believe Tails and knuckles have a good relationship with each other. I believe that Tails and knuckles are the embodiment of brains and brawn. I’d say these three share a bit of a brotherhood, tails is the youngest, and sonic and knuckles are the older two. Knuckles is the one who’s a bit introverted and disconnected, as he has his emerald duties and (like you said) will fight them if it comes down to it. If you take what I said here and watch the movie carefully, you can see what I mean.

In the OVA movie I say Tails and Knuckles had some time together while Sonic was out of the picture for a while after the first round with Metal, Tails and Knuckles work together to find him and even in the final battle while Sonic was fighting Metal they worked together to save the world I say they can be good friends with Sonic not around

If I remember correctly, in Sonic Chronicles, Knuckles went to Tails for help with security for the Master Emerald. Meaning he has trust and confidence in his skills. In Sonic Heroes, Tails and Knuckles were already together before meeting up with Sonic at the start of their story. While they most likely ran into each other, it's possible they were already hanging out, or one of them went to get the other before meeting up with Sonic. So they do keep each other in mind.

I’ve always wanted to play a Sonic game from beginning to end as JUST Knuckles & Tails, no Sonic. The closest I got to that, I think, was Mania’s encore mode. I really want a game, or a game mode, where Sonic is captured by Eggman & Knuckles & Tails work together to save him. It’d be so fun to play, and would give us some great interactions that help flesh out their dynamic!

As a long time Sonic fan, the first time I felt like Knuckles and Tails had a connection was actually in the Sonic 2 movie. Up until then, yeah I always saw them together, but I never really thought about their friendship. I'm sure in the shows they both appear in, they interact more, but in the main games, I can't really recall much interactions between them, and I could never picture Tails and Knuckles hanging out together, even though they live fairly close (if Adventure is anything to go by)

I think Tails and Knuckles have a pretty fun dynamic and interactions in the Sonic Boom cartoons. Th examples I remember is that episode where Tails gets love advice from people, and Knuckles just tells him to be a strong dudebro. And another episode where Knuckles wins a lamp but doesn't have anywhere to put it, so Tails lets Knuckles sleep in his workshop along with the lamp

I REALLY wanted someone to talk about this. Tails and Knuckles don't really have a duo but i want them to be cuz they can potentially be a great duo. I thought about this idea when i saw some of the fan animation series like SMBZ, Sonic: Dark form etc. Where mostly Sonic and Shadow are the ones to form the duo( and they DO make a good duo, don't get me wrong) So i felt like Tails and Knuckles should form their own duo as they most of the time form a trio alongside Sonic. People describe Tails as Sonic's "little brother" and Knuckles as Sonics Rival/Friend. So in my head, Tails is just Knuckles friends little brother. In my experience that relationship in the real world tends to be mild at best, and typically closer to an annoyance.

I agree, I think that if those two interacted more in the games, they would be way less rivals, and more of good friends. I’d think that Tails would have a more genuine and trusting relationship with Knuckles than Sonic would have with Knuckles solely because Tails doesn’t tease much, and can, in a way, understand Knuckles’ loneliness and respect for ancient architecture or writing. To add on to that, while Tails and Knuckles may look like the classic “brains and the brawn” duo, when they interact, I feel like it’s them putting aside their differences and trusting and respecting each other. Tails can understand Knuckles and respect his personal space as well as the master emerald, while Knuckles can be there for Tails and make sure he’s alright when he needs it. Tails and Knuckles could also work together to solve ancient mythic stuff if they wanted to, and I personally feel they would be much more friends than rivals.

Nice vid! So, 2 things: - I recently had a pretty decent conversation about this recently and came to very similar conclusions regarding their relationship. I want to see more, because aside from small moments like the one in Heroes with the "teasing older brother, mild younger brother" relationship; they seem almost like... well that episode of Seinfeld where George and Elaine realize they only relate to each other _through_ Jerry. And while that's fine, and a decent enough interpretation of their relationship (and one that I believe seems to be the case) I *do* wish their friendship would get more development, since they're a fun pair when they do get those rare moments and it seems like _such a waste_ for 2 members of "Team Sonic" to just be "mutual friends with Sonic, but not really with each other" - The 2nd is more of a nitpick than anything, which is: Knuckles still barely knew Sonic and Tails in Adventure 1. Even if Triple Trouble is canon, Knuckles has only seen these guys twice for a short period of time. And even if significant time passed between 3K/TT and SA1; there's no indication that Knuckles had seen them since, since it's *heavily* implied he's never left Angel Island, and I doubt Sonic and Tails decided to make regular visits lol Overall, great video! I really enjoyed it and came to a lot of similar conclusions myself. I'm curious to see if the nickname will stick for Sonic 3, if it won't stick, or if he'll come up with a completely new nickname for the fox

you, like most others, got Knuckles wrong, Knuckles was written in the first games, to have above average intelligence, but because he raised himself basically he doesn't know the meaning of lying, or how corrupt the world is, so he believes Eggman, even in the Sonic movie 2, one of the deleted scenes has Knuckles asking Eggman what lying is, cause he doesn't know, Knuckles is just too trusting, and he doesn't see Sonic as a rival anymore, he hasn't since SA2, in Sonic Heroes you can hear them talking to each other like brothers, giving each other crap, but they both know it's all in good fun, cause that's what brothers do, Knuckles did fight Sonic or Tails in SA, but that's because he thought they had a Master Emerald piece, you know, the thing that keeps Knuckles' home from crashing into the water killing a bunch of people, and is one his only possession other than his shoes, also he made a promise to guard the ultimate power Emerald, so yeah, Knuckles would fight anyone for it.

My favorite knuckles and tails moment is the intro to team hero’s in sonic hero’s, just the 2 bros flying in the ship knuckles casually laying back until they spot sonic running in the distance, after handing the letter to sonic and letting him read about the new big bad plan, knuckles looks to sonic and and says “don’t worry We got this” again showing his confidence and trust in tails, remember originally knuckles was a very “ I do it alone” type of guy now he’s willing to take on an adventure with him and tails alone, though ofc sonic says think I’ll miss this and they all head off to face the adventure

Team Sonic Racing butchered their relationship HARD. Tails lied to Knuckles, Knuckles didn't even trust Tails, and to think that was the most monotone Pontaff have ever written for Sonic. Oh, and at 4:17, I consider that a terrible character writing moment for Knuckles and Tails in Heroes. The fact is, Tails isn't even scared of ghosts, Knuckles is! It's in his character description. Tails might be afraid of lightning, but not of ghosts. So that character moment of Knuckles joking about seeing Shadow's ghost doesn't even make sense.

Knuckles is a character that's afraid of getting out of his comfort zone, so him being afraid of ghosts is pretty in character. Team Sonic Racing(and it's the Twitter Takeover) also reaffirmed his fear in Sandopolis. What's not in character is making fun of someone who isn't afraid of ghosts(AKA Tails) for being afraid of ghosts when you yourself are afraid of ghosts.

@suggest a good name Gemstones that make islands float are a very different type of supernatural than spirits of dead people coming back to get you. Sure, the ghosts from SA2 were really goofy, but Knuckles being afraid of ghosts generally makes a lot of sense. First off, he’s a fist fighter and those traditionally do poorly against spirits in Japanese media. You know how in Pokémon Fighting type attacks have no effect on Ghost Pokémon? Foes that can’t be punched because fists will phase through them would make Knuckles similarly helpless to fight back against them in the worst case scenario. Knuckles’ entire family is dead and they made a lot enemies while they were alive. If anyone genuinely has anything to fear from the undead, it’s him. Any curses issues towards his clan’s name are his and his alone to bear. He‘s already taking the brunt of a divine punishment (aka a slightly less malicious curse, let’s face it) all by himself for the actions of his ancestors through his guardian duty, just imagine how great it would be for him if any folks from the other side actually bore any ill will towards him, all while he is unable to fight back against anything they‘ll do to him. It makes perfect sense that dead people who he can’t fight off coming to get him for reasons he can’t control would be his personal worst fear.

Its funny how the only interactions i seen of tails and knuckles up until sonic movie 2 was in sonic heroes and in sonic advance 3 if u partner them up together. I remember taiks donning some boxing gloves when he flies and tries to imitate knuckles

I think too that Knuckles sorta has to be untrusting due to the fact that he does guard the master emerald. I mean he knows Sonic as a friend, but he also knows how powerful the chaos and master emeralds are, and what can go horribly wrong when used improperly or for evil, and since both Sonic and Tails use the chaos emeralds on an almost weekly basis to either defeat Eggman, or power equipment to defeat Eggman, I think it makes Knuckles a hair nervous and distrusting. Guard duty sorta comes with an automatic distrust guarantee.

Well,this is the kind of relation that some people has... we have to remind that when it comes to be serious due to their personalities they shape themselves "faster" than Sonic. Knuckles and tails got to be like not only brothers but people that quietly understand their confort zones and how they make them work together quietly and friendly...they are VERY respectfull to each other and coordinates through their differences as the most natural thing ever. You can see these kind of relations on real life even often than "the extrovert with the introvert" (Sonic and Tails) more like the practical father trying to understand a gifted som wich is very cute indeed.
